AMD MotherboardsUse this link for more information on AMD Compatible Motherboards in our Learning Center The motherboard, also called the system board, is the main part of your computer. Everything else plugs into it. Essentially, it's a piece of fiberglass with circuits on it; the hardware that sits on top of it does all the work. The motherboard also holds the CPU, or processor, and allows all the different parts of your computer to communicate with each other and do their jobs. How AMD Motherboards FunctionThe CPU, memory sockets, BIOS chips, etc., sit on the motherboard, which is an essential ingredient in a PC's performance. The speed of your motherboard affects any speed you will get out of your computer. There are two basic forms of motherboards, AT and ATX. The ATX form is newer; if you have an older computer, it is probably AT. Motherboards are known by the types of processors they have, such as Intel or AMD motherboards. For many years, Intel was the only processor manufacturer for PCs, but now AMD is giving them stiff competition. AMD has produced a 64 bit processor to rival Intel in the next generation of processors. Another spec to look at when purchasing a motherboard is the fan--today's CPUs get very hot while working so they typically have cooling fans attached to them to dissipate the heat. WARNING: Products with exposed solder may contain lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm. Please wash hands after handling internal components and motherboards and avoid inhalation of fumes if heating the solder. |
