5 out of 5 eggsSweet little drive

Pros: Corsair is a well-known DRAM manufacturer, so it is logical they have expanded into the SSD market. I seem to be seeing their name on more and different electronic products.

This drive is remarkably small and light; the smallest 2.5 inch drive I have seen. The lightness is attributable to the plastic casing. I hope it holds up, it seems pretty sturdy. There are no moving parts, so it should be fine.

I cloned my old hard drive to this drive using Windows System Backup in Windows 8, and it was up and running immediately. Control Panel, Save backup copies…, System image backup. Then remove the source drive and replace it with your new drive. Then boot your system with a repair or installation disk and restore the image you just created to your new drive.

Or there is plenty of free disk cloning software out there. Other than Windows I would suggest using some flavor of UNIX DD.

I installed the Corsair drive just like you would install any SATA drive. I don’t know why some are having issues, there is no difference in the installation, as far as I can tell.

There are 2 tweaks you should make in Windows to maximize the life of your drive. Turn off automatic defragging and stop the creation of the page file. Each block of an SSD drive can written to only a finite number of times, so limiting unnecessary writes is important.

The 120 GB (less than 112 GB formatted) is adequate for day-to-day use, but if you have a lot of music or graphics to store, you will need and external USB drive. Fortunately 500 GB USB 3.0 external mechanical hard drives can be had for just $50 - $60.

Cons: The life span of SSD drives is still unknown. I have not heard of issues, but they have only been widely used for a couple of years.

This drive has slower read and write speeds compared to other SSD, but I would expect this from a small inexpensive drive. Still it is much faster than a mechanical drive.

There were no instructions included. There was no mounting hardware, not even a screw!

Fortunately for me they were not missed.

Overall Review: This drive would be perfect for replacing a failing drive in a laptop or desktop. I guarantee if you are moving from a mechanical drive you will feel like you have a new machine.

1 out of 5 eggsDead in two days

Pros: While on my SATA2 desktop its test result in benchmark is no much different from a 3 years old 64GB SSD, daily operation does become faster.

Cons: It died in 2 days, in a sudden during normal use. Even external closure cannot get it recognized. Waiting for replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive for a budget drive

Pros: Gets the job done pretty well consideirng the net cost of $45 (after rebate) for a budget drive. (Could not resist the price tag to test a brand I have never used.) Very respectable performance!

Cons: None for the price paid.

Overall Review: It's unclear to me why the last 3 reviewers were having issues with this drive. Installing SSDs isn't as easy as mechanical hard drives. There is some preparation the needs to be made before that installation for trouble-free operation. (Research online for the process!) After playing with over 15 brands of various SSDs, the effort to get the drive up and running is about the same as most others based on my experience.

The drive package comes with screws - pretty uncommon practice as most low end drives come with nothing else. The housing is light despite having a all-metal top casing. It is built with a Phison PS3108 controller. Majority of the reputable online reviews I've read before purchasing gave it above-average value. The drive was not supposed to be introduced in the U.S., but somehow made it here none-the-less. (The package insert directs all warranty claims to either Hong Kong or Taiwan.) Corsair still warrants the drive in the U.S. however.

Performance-wise it is not as fast as OCZ ARC100 (Best vlaue drive out there at the moment!) when it comes to booting up and normal usage, but the difference is minor in day-to-day operation. Cloned my main rig SSD to this drive using MiniTool Partition Wizard freeware (unclear why cloning using Macrium Reflect freeware will not work yet.), went into Windows Disk Administrator to make sure my hard drive partitions are configured with drive letters again, and it was up and running in little time. Installed the Corsair SSD Toolbox, and made sure the drive had the latest firmware installed. The drive has since been functioning perfectly for over 7 days now continuosly.
From my understanding, Corsair has a solid reputation when it comes to SSDs, so I am pretty comfortable in recommending this product. Good luck!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for old computer

Pros: FAST for an old TC4400 laptop running Core2Duo processor with Windows 8.1 Went from 30 sec to 5 sec from turn on to login page. Then about 1 minute from login to opening a usable browser to less than 10 seconds!!! had problems after logging into my computer with chrome or explorer connecting to the internet to show even the google website. I thought I had a virus or something, just turns out to be a slow drive (7200rpm). After the SSD install there's no lag anymore!!! it's just like you expect it to run. Turn on login in and surf the internet in under 30 seconds!

Cons: No anything in the box to tell you what to do. You need to do your research and go to the corsair website (doesn't even tell you to do that). You can get the Corsair SSD toolbox from there. They have their cloning part up and running despite the website saying it's in the works, however it's slow! I used Macrium to clone. But I still used the Corsair SSD toolbox to make sure my drivers were up to date for the SSD.

Overall Review: If you are like me and love to keep old hardware up and running (this computer is a 2006-2007 era laptop) then don't waste your money on high end drives. Wait for deals like this ($39.99 after MIR for 120GB) to throw into your laptop. I don't even think I have SATA III capability, so I didn't want the high end samsung knowing I am probably getting the same results (for my computer) with these cheaper drives.

4 out of 5 eggsGet What You Pay For

Pros: It's a nice SSD that I picked up for a nice price during a sale. It is incredibly fast in comparison to an old 1TB HDD I was using previously. If you're looking to make the move to SSD on a budget, this is a great drive.

Cons: Though it is faster than a HDD, it is slower than higher quality SSDs. I recently purchased a Samsung 840 EVO and it blows the Corsair Force LS out of the water. Read/Write times on the Corsair are less than half that of the Samsung drive.

2 out of 5 eggsOne Slooow Puppy

Pros: Very inexpensive SSD sub-$60 cost. Flawless install on a Win7 and Vista Bus laptops. Read/Writes nicely on an STARTECH SSD cloner tray. Nice and very well protected packing. If I get my $20 rebate my net cost is about $40.

Cons: This Corsair SSD is my 4th branded OEM SSD drive and by far the slowest. Windows Performance Index is 5.9, same index of a traditional 7200-HDD. Passmark Overall Disk mark is only 1066. When compared with my older SSDs this 1066 is about 1/3 the disk mark of the others. Performance-wise, I do not consider this SSD to be a reasonable upgrade from a traditional 7200rpm SATA HDD. I own an INTEL, SAMSUNG, PNY(2) and CRUCIAL SSDs.

Overall Review: Thin, ideal for ultra-books. Practically all plastic body and no spacer or screws provided. Like my other SSDs, runs very hot and pushes the fan max thermal setting to the limit. Because of it's low cost it can be a nice entry-level "kick-the-tires" SSD just to see if my older laptops can handle SSD technology. NewEgg is my primary source for techie gadgets and this drive was purchased from there.

1 out of 5 eggsVery slow and frozen drive - < 20 MB/s write

Pros: Slim 7 mm drive

Cons: I replaced my old Patriot 64GB SSD with this new Corsair. But my computer (i7 + 8GB ram) turned much slower - the computer froze for ~5s every 1-2 minute!!! Even surfing the web or playing videos have this frozen issue. So I checked the benchmark using AS SSD, and the speed was horrible - lower than 20 MB/s sequential write and very low read (100 MB/S) and 4K speeds (<10 MB/s) as well. My old Patriot is much faster than this - using the same computer and same system. During the benchmark, the frozen issue also appears, which might partially be the reason affecting the speed. I am sure the computer is perfectly good - when I change back to my old Patriot, no frozen issues and much faster.

So how can this new drive has frozen issue and much slower than a 4 year old drive?

I have installed the Corsair SSD toolbox and everything is normal in there. The TRIM and 4K are normal too according to various benchmark software. I only installed 30 GB of windows so not a space problem either. In all, I have spent 2 whole nights researching this but cannot find an answer except this is a defective drive.

I trust Corsair quality but it seems that this drive (at least mine) is not a good one.

Overall Review: The frozen and <20 MB/s speed is not acceptable.

I expect Corsair to have a solution on this.

1 out of 5 eggsWhy so slow...

Pros: New 7 mm packaging
If it is cheap enough, use it for mobile storage only!

Cons: Why so slow....
Formatting is a speed indicator to me.
This one formats as slow as a hard drive.
Bought LX series unit, and was positively impressed.
Thought this would be better, but it is much worse.
Don't buY!
Will check more later.

Overall Review: Why so slow?
Must be older technology, maybe the 120 vs 128 GB gives a clue.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We're sorry that you were unsatisfied with the Force LS drive. There are many things that could have contributed to the lack of performance that you were expecting, such as using SATA 1 or 2 versus using SATA 3, using a third party SATA controller over an Intel SATA controller, or that the drive that you received could have been defective. With that said, if you're looking for a faster drive we would suggest that you go with a Force GS, Force GT, or Neutron GTX. If you have further quesitons feel free to submit a ticket at corsair.force.com or call us at 888-222-4346 and we'll be more than happy to address any concerns you may have.

2 out of 5 eggsSlow SSD

Pros: The SSD works, easy installation, but that's expected.

Cons: Very slow. For those who have never used SSD before, this would be great. But for those of us who are seasoned SSD users, this drive is easily the slowest. Very high power consumption at nearly 5W/0.6W, not ideal for laptop or external enclosure.

Overall Review: I've never seen an SSD this slow since PATA was obsolete. But if you're upgrading from desktop HD and want something cheap. This is it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Their software is a free download, it's has firmware update tool and drive cloning. Boot up time went down by around 2/3, got rid of all computer lagging.

Cons: Power & SATA connectors seem just slightly closer together than usual, the cable plugs touch each other and wont quite fit on the way on, but it's on enough to work.

Overall Review: My speeds are only around 200-225MB/s, but it's on a 5 year old M2N68-AM SE2 system that only has SATA 2. I might buy a sata 3 card later but since my old 120gb hdd only got 60-70mb/s, this is quite an improvement. After the drive cloning it wouldnt boot at first, said missing file. Had to run Windows install, select computer repair and it fixed the boot up problem. Ive had the same problem with other brands of SSD's when drive cloning.

After it booted, windows said it now unactivated and a few other programs said their license was invalid, they must be tied to the original drive. I just reactivated them and everything worked again.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Flawless

Pros: Speeds are as described. Reliability is top notch, I work this drive like a slave, but it is the master ;-)

Cons: Not Free?

Overall Review: Not a Intel, but Corsair has been in the "memory" business for their entire existence. So a solid state from any company in the non-volatile ROM industry is expected to have its quality shine through. For the price, the speeds are above standard, life time is on par with its Intel and Sandisk competitors.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeeds consistent with mfg specs

Pros: Meets/exceeds specs in a variety of write scenarios. Easy install on my older rig.

Cons: None to date

Overall Review: I like this pup. Unlike smaller SandForce drives and some budget SSDs with larger NAND chips (writes spread across too few channels) it consistently saturates my SATA2 interface regardless of data type. It may not be the fastest drive for newer rigs but the price is right, ratings high and backed by good customer service should it ever be needed. A previous reviewer noted speeds were not as expected. Unfortunately, NewEgg published the same specs for all drive sizes. According to Corsair the max sequential read/write speeds for the 120GB model are 535MB/s and 440MB/s, respectively.

3 out of 5 eggsLasted 5 years 5 days

Pros: Lasted 4-5 years longer than Seagate hard drives. Decent read/write.

Cons: Died without warning. This SSD was only on a few hours every week. I used it as a boot drive to a backup computer. Every week I'd wake the computer from sleep and backup data to it (other hard drives, not this SSD). Other than installing the OS and a few applications now and then, I never really wrote anything to this drive.

Overall Review: I'm not too upset. Five years and nothing important was lost. If I actually used it everyday maybe it would have failed much sooner. Who knows?

5 out of 5 eggsValue drive

Pros: * Corsair warranty and customer service remains an excellent reason to side with the brand, especially with something like an SSD
* Rebate process is honest and prompt
* I knew what I was getting, got it, and got it for $39 on shell shocker with a rebate.

Cons: * Not super-competitive unless on sale, even within Corsairs own lineup, imo.

* For a simple build with moderate demands, the real-world difference with this slower SSD is not noticeable. Would buy again.

Pros: I have previously purchased this drive from a local tech store and just bought several more from NewEgg. No DOA drives or difficulties installing in the four machines I have used them in. An especially good value at NewEgg's sale price ($65). I have used all of them as replacement boot drives for older systems giving these machines a performance boost and new lease on life.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your money

Pros: lightweight (that is about the only "positive" thing I can say about this drive)

Cons: Useless. I bought this to replace a smaller SSD in my laptop. Unable to use Corsair's software to make a "Disk Clone" (saying this drive is not supported).
Used Acronis True Image to clone the old drive to this larger SSD, put this SSD drive in laptop, but it would not boot. Even tried a fresh/clean Windows 7 install and when it reboots, again nothing. Checked the drive using the laptop BIOS and everything is fine. BUT IT WILL NOT BOOT. Laptop Bios sees the drive, Windows installer sees the drive, Windows installer can partition and write to it, but the SSD PERPETUALLY REFUSES TO BOOT.

Overall Review: Wasted 3 nights now, trying various approaches (and/all of which ought to work). Will need to try Corsair support, but am not holding my breath (most likely wasted my time and money)

3 out of 5 eggsSpeeds not as advertised

Pros: Came with the most updated firmware, good Corsair packaging as per usual.

Cons: Speeds are quite a bit below the advertised seeds using ATTO.

Drive firmware checked with Corsair SSD Tool, most updated installed, as does my mobo, 2 different new cables tried, fresh install of W7 with all drivers and updates installed and only getting 520mb/s Read and 480mb/s Write, well below advertised speeds.

Overall Review: My older Corsair Force 60gb SSDs have faster results on ATTO using the exact same PC configuration.

4 out of 5 eggsSSD's ARE COOL

Pros: Very Fast
Good software from suppliers website

120 GB is plenty since I store everything in the cloud

Needs a 2 1/2 adapter for 2 12 in drive bay but worked around this annoyance.

Cons: Cloning software did NOT span multiple partitions for me.

Therefor had to re install Windows and all 300+ updates.

Shipping took 9 working days since USPS since the package to the wrong city.

Overall Review: Some things are faster and others not so much. Boot times are much faster.

Nice thing about this whole adventure was a lesson learned. Even before Windows was completely setup I logged into Google Chrome. Guess what - all of my stuff was there just the way I had left it. And I didn't have 300+ updates to load either. I find my self using Chrome more and more everyday.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, Reliable, Cost effective.

Pros: Fast, Cheap, Reliable.

Everything opens in a click. What else you need? Benchmarks? Lol. I've had other slower SSD (Kingston 1st generation ssd) and it also opens in a click. "Cost" is the way to go. Grab this when it's cheap. Read experts reviews in "real" file transfers etc. There's not much difference. If you want speed on a server, then you'd be looking elsewhere anyway.

It also has Corsair SSD Toolbox (on their website) that helps maintain your drive. How cool is that!

My 80+ pages Powerpoint slide with HD pictures opens in a click on my Thinkpad x230.

Cons: Like some others say, this has an older controller that slows down. I haven't experienced it yet since all I do with laptop is write document and surf web for emails, news, reading etc. If it slows down, I'll use CCleaner to clean my drive anyway, and SSD Toolbox will help improve also. I can wait 0.5 second difference. :-)

Still waiting for my rebate. It says in process.

Overall Review: Installed on Lenovo Thinkpad X230, 64bit Win 7 Ultimate. Boots in 20 seconds. I love Cosair products. I have their PSU (TX750) and it works great even after several years. Wow. I plan to buy their product line.

2 out of 5 eggsCorsair Force LS Series CSSD-F120GBLS

Pros: SSD is faster than standard Sata 3 6GB/s Hard Drives in Raid 0 configuration.

Cons: Corsair SSD plastic case is made of cheap plastic and prone to breakage, esp. power and sata connections.

Overall Review: Try some other brand!!!

3 out of 5 eggsSlower than my 3 yr old Patriot Pyro SE 60GB

Pros: Was not DOA, $55 after MIR at the time of purchase, and it's faster than a HD.

Cons: It's noticeable slower than my 3 yr old Patriot Pyro SE 60GB in my laptop. The whole point of new tech is that it is suppose to be faster, especially with a bigger memory capacity. Windows Experience Index gave it a 7.3 while the old Pyro SE got a 7.8 score. Corsair Toolbox is installed and everything checks out. All SMART tests passed, newest firmware, TRIM enabled, ACHI enabled, and SATA 3.0 port.

Overall Review: I almost never write reviews, but I feel the need to warn others about this drive. Money is better spent on a better drive. I will update accordingly if I ever figure out how to get the SSD to run faster.

3 out of 5 eggscorsair in general

Pros: CORSAIR products in general are ok-at attractive prices

-BUT their REBATE programs are deceptive so EMPTIOR CAVEAT=BUYER BEWARE

Cons: having prior bought much corsair memory for pc's and notebooks prior-found out that their REBATES NEVER CAME-so BUYER BEWARE-EMPTOIR CAVEAT

-prices AFTER rebate makes them attractive,BUT if rebate never comes, due to misinformation re qty or one rebate per party, even if you buy larger quantities, is DECEPTIVE
-and having bought millions of bucks of electronic parts before-(to get quantity discount),this "rebate" sales
practice defied normal business practices

Overall Review: burned by Corsair rebates on memory being prior rejected by shady undisclosed ,compllcated website information and "boiler plated " statements got turned off Corsair

-BUT their SSD price/performance ratio "seemed" attractive- IF rebates were honoured

1 out of 5 eggsWas fast until it died 4 months into use

Pros: I found it to be quite fast on a simple Windows 7 machine that did some light gaming.

Sadly, it died about 4 months into use. Cannot be recognized any more.

Buyer Beware

Cons: Useless thing died.

1 out of 5 eggsSlow SSD

Pros: None - speed not as advertised. Not even close. around 200mb/s read & write on a brand new Dell laptop! Replacing it with Samsung EVO 850

Cons: very slow. Not worth the cost. even the cheapest SanDisk run faster!

Overall Review: Trust other reviewer when they said this thing is SLOOOOOOOW!

5 out of 5 eggsSolid SSD for the price.

Pros: I use this SSD in my traveling laptop. With Ubuntu 14.04 LTS I am seeing very good performance even with encryption. It easily revitalized an older laptop.

Cons: There are better options available, but this fit my budget the best.

Overall Review: There are better options available, but with Corsair's warrantee and pricing available, it was an easy purchase. Don't expect lightning fast performance, but it will jazz up an older or back up system.

Pros: Price, ease of install

Cons: Corsair software wouldn't erase non Corsair hard drives
