1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Didn't bring dead animals into the house.

Cons: After 38 days in service, it stopped writing to one of the drives in a RAID1 array and left the array in a degraded state. Array continued to be accessible until box was rebooted, after which the box appeared to be bricked.

Drives included in this unit were Seagate desktop units, which aren't all that good for NAS applications.

Overall Review: I bought this unit (from other-than-Newegg) to use as a repository for my media collection. After configuring it as a 3TB RAID1 and dumping a couple of terabytes into it, I suppose I'm glad that this thing let me access the degraded array to pull data back out of it -- I still had other copies on other media so I wouldn't have been totally hosed, but I came uncomfortably close to losing most of my collection (and will be checking the recovered files against my other copies to check for damage).

Drives removed from this unit were tested good in one of my other computers, so this isn't a total loss.

No more Buffalo for me.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible product and support

Pros: If you hard power it, mine at least, will last 4-8 hard powers. Unfortunately if you have the latest firmware Buffalo Tech support can't do anything for you.

Cons: If you want it to work for more than a month with the power on then you are looking at the wrong company. It will freeze and when you convince yourself to pull the power and plug it back in hopeful that it will still contain your information....good luck.

Overall Review: Tech support consist of updating your firmware because that's the cause of all problems. When that doesn't work have fun waiting until they contact you AT THEIR CONVENIENCE.

5 out of 5 eggslove my NAS

Pros: This Buffalo drive gives me a good feeling as a RAID mirror. I just bought one for my son as he needed a NAS. He's had it about 3 weeks and loves it. I've had mine over a year. It automatically comes on when I turn on the computer (after installing the driver) and goes to sleep when I shut down. Now my wife and I can keep all of our files in one place and both access them. I keep all of my important files and don't think I will lose them. My 1TB came with 1 HDD and I added another. My son's is the 6TB as a 3TB RAID and came with 2 installed HDD.

Cons: none!
