5 out of 5 eggsGreat WIth Custom Setup

Pros: If you're buying this printer from Newegg chances are you know what a static IP address is and you don't want all of HP's stupid bloatware alerting you to new updates every half hour.

Here is how to setup this printer:
1. Turn it on let it DHCP itself on the network. You can't set a static IP from the printers console. It will print a report that shows you the assigned IP.

2. Enter the IP in a browser and use the printer's web server to set up a static IP address.

3. Go to the HP website's download area and get the 'HP Photosmart Basic Drivers'. The basic drivers don't include all the bleep that will install from the CD.

That's it. A good clean setup without inserting a CD or plugging a usb cable in.

The print and scan quality is good and is about what is to be expected in a multifunction device in this price range.

Cons: None

Pros: After getting this thing fully functional in Linux I really like it and feel bad about only giving it 3 eggs on my last review. I had to build a package for the latest version hplip for it to make the Linux HP-Toolbox work but now I have a great little low cost all-in-one

Cons: No manual or CD in the box but the manual is down loadable.

Overall Review: hplip-3.10.6.tar.gz (HP-Toolbox) is fully functional with this All-n-One

4 out of 5 eggsGood printer

Pros: Fast and the quality is good. The scanning is clear and fast (enough)

Cons: If you turn it off and back on when you need it (to save power) the first print job always comes out all squiggled. Kind of looks like a sheet of bar codes. Second job forward is always fine. Not a deal breaker but weird.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good!

Pros: I just got this printer and it was easy to set up! Did not need to connect to computer, just used the lcd screen to enter my WEP key into it and it connected to my router just fine. Pop in the CD and installed into my computer and there you go! It printed a test page and the sharpness and quality was pretty decent! I wish I had printed on some high quality photo paper I am sure it would have looked nice!

It also comes with apps and as soon as it is connected to the internet it updates automatically! Why I also wanted this printer is because of ePrint, where the printer has its own email address and you can email it things when you dont have a printer around you and the printed document will be waiting for you at home or wherever this thing is! If you sign up on HP's site you can also set who is allowed to send it emails, or you can let anyone send emails so it's almost like a modern day fax...sorta. Going to try it out with my Windows Mobile phone that has Word Mobile, see how it go

Cons: I guess what I do kind of hate about HP printers is the bloated installs and software that it comes with. For some of my other printers I had trouble installing on Vista I wouldn't even use the CD and instead let windows find the drivers in the extracted directory HP driver installers would make. This particular CD worked this time with Vista but took very long and had the same HP software that just makes my computer run slow, and a pop up window comes up on the side of the taskbar every time there is a print job. If you have a fast computer this shouldn't be a big deal. I decided to use HP's software because if not then I can't mess with settings and use things like borderless printing.

Overall Review: Came with a carrying tote and a small bag to put stuff in, very nifty!

If you know what you are doing, I would recommend finding its IP before you install drivers on your computer and manually setting its IP out of the range where DHCP assigns other computers (if you have it) I had an HP Officejet Pro 8000 networked and other devices would keep using its IP so I could never print. When mine first connected, I looked for its address on my router and entered its current IP into my browser, where I could change network settings on the printer's own page. I entered an IP out of the range computers trying to use dhcp would be assigned. For example, my router's Start IP Address is at 192.168.1.100 with max users at 50, the printer's ip would be out of range anywhere before the 100, so an IP I could assign it could be 192.168.1.2. And I think even after .149, so the printer could have an IP such as 192.168.1.150. Just remember what your printer's IP address is so you can configure it later

5 out of 5 eggsFits the bill!!

Pros: Quick printing both in black/white and color. Pretty quiet operation. Black exterior. Multifunction which all works well. Wireless was very easy to setup with the cool little lcd screen functions. I have a Linksys wireless router, and all I did is push the wireless button on the printer..punch in my wireless password and in a few seconds I was connected and printing. The whole process was really easy and it has been working great for me. I will probably do another review when it comes time to change the ink. Overall, This is a great entry level "wireless" printer...much better than the other models that I have used.

Cons: none that I can think of.

Overall Review: I had been previously been using a wireless all in one printer that I bought from newegg that starts with a "B". Well, I loved the printer...but, I didn't know of the ink head problems when I purchased it..and it turns out that it's cheaper to just buy a new printer than to fix the printhead in the old one...what a shame...Go with HP..it's been the best so far..knock..knock.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent All-In-One Printer

Pros: Extremely easy to set up. Just plug and play. :) Navigation menu between symbols/ numbers and letters was very intuitive.

Installation on the WiFi was 1-2-3.

Drivers were easily installed as well -- just place CD in the CD-ROM and upon setup, uncheck all the extras.

Cons: Inkjet cartridges are a little expensive.

Overall Review: I got this deal on sale + free shipping.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple home wireless printer

Pros: Nice basic home wireless printer that does a decent job for what you pay for. Everything works as described. Very easy basic setup using windows 7 64 bit. print quality is good--scanning works great and easy to use. I have not tried photo's. The wireless feature has worked since day one with no issues and is shared on a router with several other laptops and computers running different os's. Setup right out of the box took about 15 minutes including coffee breaks. Good choice for a basic printer

Cons: none whatsoever

Overall Review: I don't understand the reviews that state they have a HIGH tech level and yet they have difficulties with such a simple printer???? Everything works even the email address on the e-print works fantastic.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Incredibly easy setup on my home network: two Windows 7 64 bit machines, an XP 32 bit, and a Vista 64 bit. Finally, a printer and scanner that sets up and works exactly as it should.

The ePrint feature works flawlessly.

Two ink cartridges only.

Works with G band router.

Installed the Basic drivers downloaded on HP.com. Flawless and easy install on all my computers.

Excellent text quality - I don't print photos as that eats too much ink.

I have only owned this printer for a day, but so far it looks like HP really got it right this time.

Cons: None.

Pros: Has everything in one, compact, and most of all wireless printing. This means you can put this anywhere in your house! I have a hidden wireless network and was able to set everything up in about 10 minutes. Works in Ubuntu and Windows XP

Cons: I had some problems getting it to work in Windows 7 64 bit.

5 out of 5 eggsGood wireless printer.

Pros: Wireless
Inexpensive

Cons: HP software

Overall Review: This is a nice home printer, especially if you have kids and don't want to have a printer for each, or if you have both desktops and notebook computers. If you install the software from the cd, DO NOT use the quick express option. This will result in the usual HP bloatware. The custom option will let you opt out of the parts you don't want. Thankfully HP also offers a device only set of drivers at their website. The only hiccup I ran into during setup was that it would see our router, but after entering our wep key it wouldn't connect. This turned out to be a router issue. A quick unplug-wait-replug of the router and it connected immediately. I guess too much up-time makes my FIOS router cranky.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked great

Pros: It worked great for college with all the printing and coping and scanning. Printed fast and clear. I loved the wireless part of it. Over all a good printer.

Cons: I have owned it now for about 3 1/2 yrs. This last 6 months it is constantly jamming or just plain decides it doesn't want to print. So I turn it off for about a week and then it decides it will print again for a little while then starts to act up again. I just wish if it was gonna die on me it would just do it instead of this slow death.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Great! REALLY!

Pros: This printer arrived earlier in the day than i expected so thats a thumbs up! When i got it i didnt even need to call HP for support. The wireless was easy to setup as long as you have the password to your router its a touch away from setting it up! LOL EVERYTHING printed out smoothly and im glad because i wil be using this for my SENIOR year in high school, ill be printing out alot during that time :)

Cons: NONE! only minor issues but everything worked out in the end :)

Overall Review: I couldnt print correctly through my email connected to the printer and one time my printer said it was offline when everything proved against that. These problems im sure will be fixed as i havnt tried to get help yet so other than my own problems EVERYTHING still works as i expected !

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: This is my first upgrade in about 8 years - my old HP printer works well still, but I figured it was time for a new one. Right out of the package, I was impressed... beautiful design. I love the lcd screen. Setup was a breeze - I just had to push the key on my router and the printer did all the work to set it up wirelessly. The print quality is amazing. I now realize what I've been missing! I love the fact that you can email documents right to your printer. It also comes with a memory card slot - not sure I'll use it, but you never know!

Cons: None so far!!

Overall Review: Some people may find it helpful to know that this printer does not come with a usb connector. Keep that in mind if you cannot use this wirelessly.

Pros: It works great there ain't that much nose I have heard louder printers and there is no movement when its printing the TouchSmart screen is really easy to use the power led is bright white and the wireless button has a blue led.The wireless works really great .

Cons: The Ink Cartridge Access Door is kinda hard to open not really a con if you have little hands around it will keep them from opening it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: At $49 w/ free shipping (sale price), it was cheaper than buying new ink for my last printer. Seems pretty wasteful to throw out my printers every 6 months but whatever, maybe they should stop charging $60 for cartridges. Wifi works fine, fairly small, clean design.

Cons: Who cares, it was $50.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's an okay printer

Pros: - prints decent documents and small photos
- wireless

Cons: - Ink cartridge replacements are costly
- paper feed was good for a while, after a year of normal day to day use, it started having issues with paper getting stuck
- software updates and support is terrible, sometimes it works and sometimes it keeps telling you to update even though you already did update
- wireless disconnects a lot

Overall Review: decent printer for beginners

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to use, hasn't jammed yet. Cartridges are easy to replace.

Cons: The only thing that is nearly worthless is the USB printer cable socket. It only barely holds the cable in place, and occasionally wiggles out. Even regular USB ports hold better, why do printers need a specific, worthless, connector? Also, I have no idea how it would handle having USB 3.0 bandwidth. Pretty sure it wouldn't make a difference.

Oh yeah, it doesn't have a paper try to catch your things. What is that? That's the only thing I can knock off an egg for.

Overall Review: I still have yet to actually print photos with it, but the capability is there.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Printer I've ever owned

Pros: Price, and alleged uses.

Cons: It hardly ever works correctly. It almost never feeds paper. I've used several different types of paper and it just wont pick the sheets up. It scans occasionally. Let's face it, if it wont print it isn't a printer. It is an overpriced paper holder.

Overall Review: It sucks you in with the promise of copying, printing, and scanning, but leaves you disappointed.

Pros: It occasionally prints. Sometimes it scans.

Cons: Guzzles ink. Capital B Bloatware. Incessant phoning home. Useless support (I have to create ANOTHER account, really?!). Currently prints, but does not recognize one-touch scanning. Image editing software doesn't recognize scanner.

Driver package doesn't install. You are REQUIRED to install the bloatware and then manually uninstall everything but the drivers.

Overall Review: From here on out, I will pay as much as $70 more for a comparable product made by anyone other than HP.

Pros: I'm as gitty as a schoolgirl with a new dress about this purchase. First off, WIFI is amazing. Second, it automatically detects your wireless router. Updates automatically (drivers etc). Prints HD photos. CHEAPEST refill cartridges available.

Cons: Kidding me?

1 out of 5 eggsNever Again

Pros: It's small, it has the exact specs and features I wanted in a printer. It was relatively inexpensive.

Cons: It goes through ink unbelievably fast. When I replaced the cartridges the first time it gave me an error and the printer wouldn't work. I bought another set of cartridges and it said that they weren't authentic HP cartridges. They were, but that's besides the point. I'd never by a printer that specifically indicates you have to use their name brand cartridges all the time. Evidently the programming they put in to determine if the cartridges are authentic is sophisticated enough to give you warnings but not good enough to detect actual HP cartridges. The printer worked at that point....at least for a couple of weeks. At that point it gave me a cartridge error. Probably because it was upset that dared to use non-HP cartridges....when I didn't. I spent a good amount of time switching through other sets of cartridges....at this point I had a collection. It finally worked again. This week I tried to use it for the first time in a couple months. It gives me a cartridge error.

Overall Review: I've had it. I've spent more on cartridges than this thing is worth. Never again.

4 out of 5 eggsHP Photosmart CN731A all in one

Pros: This printer is easy to install for hardwired access. I still haven't been able to get the remote printing capabilities working (this allows printing from a computer not physically hooked up). The photos print well and to the edge of the paper and the price is reasonable.

I usually purchase cheaper printers (Epson primarily) for home use because they and the ink are cheaper. However, I do so little printing from home that the ink heads in the Epson get clogged and dry up making the printer useless. HP replaces the print head with each ink cartridge which makes the ink more expensive, but I decided it was worth it to not have to replace the actual printer every year or so.

Cons: There isn't a separate tray for the finished printing to rest in; it comes back out to sit on top of the blank paper tray making me wonder if a large job would potentially have jamming problems if it tries to pull an already printed page.

Overall Review: I wouldn't recommend it for an office or high volume home printing, but it is great for a home printer. Prints great pictures and the printer/scanner/copier will do just about anything the average person needs.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed Me

Pros: Simple, did everything I wanted. Small, about average noise. Easily found my network and logged in. Easy to put drivers in Win 7. Interface panel was O.K.

Cons: Sucked ink like crazy. With very limited use it drained the first cartridges quickly. I replaced with HP carts because I was in a bind....I would usually use refills. No matter, I still got an error message saying "At least one of the cartridges is not working correctly." Great. No solution. I've swapped cartridges around and they're either all bad or there's something wrong with the printer. A boat anchor in 4 months.

Overall Review: I have a wired printer that I use as a backup if my wireless goes down. After sitting dormant for a while I start it up and it prints flawlessly. I've used it as two wireless HP printers have failed. That's the last HP I'll use.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: It was what I wanted......simple, small, wireless the right features. It was immeasurably easier to get on the network than the HP it replaced.

Cons: It sucks ink like crazy. With very limited use it ran the original cartridges dry quickly. I purchased replacement HP cartridges because I had to get it operational again quickly. Normally I would have bought refills. Who knows what problems I would have had with that approach. Even with the expensive stock models the unit now reads that "At least one of the cartridges has a problem." I swapped out both the black and color and there's no change. I'm not dumb enough to go out and buy MORE cartridges to try to get this thing working again. I used it for four months very lightly and now it's junk.

Overall Review: I have an old Stylus Color 760 that's direct wired to my computer. I bought cheap replacement cartridges for that in bulk years ago. Since I need a wireless in the house I've gone through two other printers and still use that 760 as a backup every time the wireless breaks down. Looks like I'm shopping for ANOTHER now. It wont be an HP.

1 out of 5 eggsWireless cannot use a static IP address

Pros: Good print quality

Cons: Wireless only uses DHCP, cannot install static IP addresses. The printer drivers installed on the computer look for static IP addresses. If the printer changes IP addresses from DHCP, you have to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers on the computer.

There is not a tray that catches printouts and the blank paper feed tray is open on top. Your printouts are dropped onto the open paper feed tray, meaning you have to physically catch each page yourself as it is printed so it doesn't fall into your blank paper feed tray.

Initial setup took about two hours. Once the printer finds a wireless connection, it automatically downloads new firmware to the printer. There is nothing you can do to bypass this.

Only the wireless print driver installs on Windows 7 64-bit, all other software crashes.

Cannot use the scanner over the wireless network.

Ink cartridges are difficult to set properly into the printer and take some dexterity to maneuver into place.

Overall Review: I bought this as a gift for a family member who doesn't use computers at home often and didn't have a printer. They will be using this mostly as a photocopier.

Due to the technical problems with the wireless installation, this is hooked up to their laptop computer using USB. The initial hope was that this printer could be placed in a common area of the house so anyone could access from anywhere in the over the wireless connection. Since the USB is now used to connect, the wireless idea was discarded.

3 out of 5 eggsNO MANUAL!!

Pros: Nice black color.
Works on Linux Slack64-C Multi-Lib system.
Card reader auto mounts in KDE4.5.1

Cons: NO MANUAL OR CD - NADA!!
I'm going to have to download the manual witch I think is rather cheesy.
The "TouchSmart" screen seems more "TouchStupid" or maybe somethings wrong but then I don't have a MANUAL to read how it works!

Overall Review: Newegg shipped this thing quickly and it arrived undamaged and it seems to be working correctly but what got my goat was:
NO MANUAL!
I don't feel that I should have to figure out how this this thing works, there should have been a MANUAL or CD or something..
I always buy HP and will continue to do so because they support Linux better than any other printer manufacturer.
but:
I shouldn't have to download the MANUAL.

Pros: Priced good at $50.Has USB port as you'll most likely need it.Like the eprint account you get to send from any other device to send to it to print out tho i don't use it much.Wife likes the coupon print out site in the bloatware that comes with it.

Cons: Disconnects alot from wireless network. Now its plugged in.Uses alot of ink.Shoots paper out on floor,No catch tray, so if you use the eprint account option from another location and have dogs(5 chihuahua's),they'll most likely been "wet" when you get home.
