2 out of 5 eggsNot Good

Pros: -Small and had a lot of features such as route indicator for NYC and CT traffic jams.

Cons: -Unit was rebuilt however, routes became incorrect and added time until the unit would not operate.
-I would prefer a replacement however the service provided a New Egg gift receipt for the unit less tax and shipping.

Overall Review: -Went back to old NUVI 50 LMT unit

5 out of 5 eggsReally good device

Pros: Simple, fast to find satellite, easy to navigate menu, good POI, fast re-calculation, free map updates and traffic.

Cons: Re routs when you chose to after traffic delays are display are not the best.

Overall Review: I borrowed an identical unit on a trip to Canada before I purchase and was the reason I got this as I loved the borrowed one. Found all my address (hotel, zoo, tourist areas, etc), perfect routing. Used the POI since my cell phone did not work in Canada and found restaurants, parking and other locations with ease and fast. Traffic delays displayed on the device prior to hitting the jams and offered alternate routes with a time saving estimate. I would have love for it to know about constructions on the alternate routes and that bit me, but I believe it is impossible to send that info to the device.
After reading other reviews I ordered a micro SD right away. They are right that the internal storage is almost full when you get it. I installed the micro SD as soon as I opened the box and all worked perfect.
Plugged in to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 computer, downloaded Garmin Express and updated the maps with ease and zero issues. The updated maps were listed for North America so I'm confident that USA and CAN are part of that. You will register your device right from Garmin Express. The software sees the SD card and goes right to it. There is a warning given that the update writes device required files to the card and if you take it out the unit may stop working. I'm not going to try to see if that is a valid statement, if they warned me I will make sure the card is there. Added free icons and voices that are available trough the software.
You must keep in mind that the traffic FM receiver is in the automobile power cable. If you use any other power, or are on battery you will not get traffic updates. Garmin Express also updates the internal database of FM traffic stations.

3 out of 5 eggsOK for the $

Pros: VG price @ $70. She talks nicely to you. It is adequate and comes with a usb, car charger, and suction cup mount. It's user friendly.

Cons: Went to Garmin's site to update the unit and it didn't have enough memory to hold the first update. Here I am today to buy a 8GB micro SD card. Free updates for life but the thing can't hold the first one. I think I have all of the lower 48 states but I'm not sure what else is missing. I guess I would give it 4 eggs if it came with adequate memory.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor TTS voice quality and a pain to update

Pros: Relatively inexpensive since it's a refurb.

Cons: 1) Maps are a PAIN to update. First, the internal storage is full out-of-the-box, so the updater won't let you install new maps. You are immediately out $6-$10 because you'll need to buy a microSD card to supply extra storage space. Second, even after you insert a new microSD cart, the update won't work! I powered the unit down, inserted my 8GB microSD card, plugged the unit back in via USB into my Vista 64bit laptop and started the update process via GarminExpress (GE). It got stuck on "Configuring". After waiting for 3 hours, I gave up and cancelled it. Plugged the unit into another PC (Win 8.1 Pro 64bit) and attempted the same process there. Initially it looked more promising as I saw it actually download maps from the net but then it got stuck again on "Configuring". I left it in that state for 12+ hours and then aborted the process again.
What finally worked is this. I took the microSD card out and attempted to start the update again via GE. It said there was not enough space and asked me to insert a microSD card. I inserted my microSD card back into the unit while it was still powered on and clicked "Continue" in the wizard. After that it finally worked and maps were installed on the SD card. I did not, however, see the maps being downloaded during this step. I assume GE used the previously downloaded map file from the earlier attempt when I aborted the process.

2) The text-to-speech (TTS) voices are HORRID! They sound like they're from a beta version of someone's student project -- very distorted and robot-like. This is in stark contrast to my old Nuvi 265W where these same voices were very crisp.

3) Only one TTS voice is included out-of-the-box. You have to use GE to download the English language pack to get other English TTS voices. I can only assume they are not included because there isn't enough storage on the internal memory chip.
