Categories > Wireless Adapters > EDIMAX > EDIMAX EW-7128Gn Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Up to 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Works Great!
Pros: Works as advertised. It has been reliable. Used it to put an old computer on my LAN in a room lacking Ethernet. The computer is on the floor so the cord means I can put antenna in a safe place instead on the back of the computer where it might get damaged.
Cons: During installation it will complain that WPA2-PSK is not supported. Ignore the message and it works just fine.

Categories > Wireless Adapters > TP-LINK > TP-LINK TL-WN722N Wireless N150 High Gain USB Adapter, 150Mbps, w/4 dBi High Gain Detachable Antenna, IEEE 802.11b/g/n, WEP, WPA/WPA2

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Works as intended.
Pros: Comes with an extension cord if you really want to put it somewhere without interference. Mine came with a dock too, so I can put it very far away from my computer if I wanted to.
The design looks nice, and the dock has a place to put the cap.
Installation was easy. Plug in and install the driver from the disk it came with.
Speedtest shows me getting the same speeds as I was with my PCI wireless adapter.
This thing reads a lot of wifis. My PCI adapter with 2 antennas read only 3, while this thing reads like 10. I'm also getting 5 bars while my PCI adapter got 4.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Speed from windows reads only half of what my PCI adapter is (pci : 130Mbps, Wifi card : 65 Mbps).
I don't think this is a big issue since I only get 20Mbps, but I was expecting 150. I don't know what others are getting, so this isn't really a "con" to me.

I will update if anything happens, since this is just the first day I am using it.

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Wifi adapter.
Pros: This product works great. I am using this on a Dell lap top that has a built in wifi card. The USB- N13 has doubled my download speeds. I will also be using on a Dell desktop that does not have a wifi card.
Cons: None at this time

Categories > Wireless Adapters > ASUS > ASUS USB-AC53 Selectable Dual-Band Wireless-AC1200 Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 867/300Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Amazing adapter.
Pros: Fast, fast, fast.
Comes with a bunch of accessories including clip for laptop screen mounting and USB extension and stand for desktop use.
Good for 300mbps on 2.45ghz N and 867mbps 802.11AC
Cons: 2x2 streams on N (300mbps only)
867mbps on AC (not 1300mbps) (see other thoughts)
USB 2 (limited to 480mbps max)
Drivers from Asus site would not install on Win 8 64bit (drivers on disc were good)
Wireless application was useless and unable to resize properly.
Other Thoughts: First of all the good news. This adapter is by far the fastest wifi adapter I have ever used bar none. I have recently used 5 different adapters including USB 3 wireless AC 1200 adapters by 2 competitors.
This adapter comes with a bunch of accessories that other adapters do not come with. Laptop screen clip and desktop mount.
Initially I was concerned that the interface was USB 2 which will limit bandwidth to a maximum of 480mbps. However this is a moot point as even with a theoretical speed of 867mbps on the AC I was unlikely to hit even a fraction of this speed. Testing proved this. Using Lan Test by Totusoft I saw speeds of 139mbps and 101mbps on 2.45ghz N and blistering speeds of 169mbps and 214mbps (write and read) on 5ghz AC. This was at 50ft from a matching Asus AC router with 3 walls in between. I was able to stream hi def video to my laptop for the first time via wifi without any stutter. Impressive stuff. Word of warning for Win 8 64bit users out there, use the install disc. This is priced to go, has the speed and is totally recommended... For anyone looking for upgrade to AC look no where else.

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 Was unable to use this USB adapter
Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Was unable to get this running at all. Drivers for Windows 8 64bit edition were bad, both online and on the disc. I did not try windows 7 drivers though.
Other Thoughts: Expected more from Trendnet if I am being truly honest. Potentially a good product, let down by incomplete software.

Returned to Newegg.

Categories > Wireless Adapters > TP-LINK > TP-LINK TL-WDN3800 Dual Band Wireless N600 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 300Mbps/5GHz 300Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Works perfectly, nothing to report in 5 months of use
Pros: - As fast as it should be
- Has been working non-stop since mid-January
- Doesn't run hot
- Works with most operating systems natively
- Price-to-performance

In the olden days of wireless non-sense, the speeds achieved were rarely as fast as they claimed. This was a long running frustration for power users. These days it isn't nearly as much of a problem, simply because the internet's prolific nature makes lying or embellishing a lot more difficult.

This one is right on par with what I would expect. Expecting 600 megabits per second from this is unrealistic, but it should get pretty darn close. The highest average achieved with this was about 510 megabits per second on Ubuntu 13.04. Why this is, I am not sure. The averages across the board weren't much lower though. Averaging the averages (yo dawg), it comes out to 485 megabits per second. I suspect that this might have been able to achieve higher, but I have many neighboring networks, so the signal to noise ratio moves around between 40 to 55 dBm.

[Tested by transferring a 20 GB file to and from my NAS]

I have had it in a computer that rarely turns off in my garage. Hasn't had any issues. Runs warm, but not beyond what I'd expect from this.

I tested this on a number of motherboards. Worked fine on all of them. Also tested this using an assortment of operating systems. Worked on Fedora 18, Ubuntu [12.04 and 13.04], Linux Mint [13,14,15], Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

For 35 dollars, this seems like a pretty smart choice.
Cons: Windows 8 works. However, it doesn't work very well. The speed dropped and I started getting peculiar packet loss issues (roughly 2%). Personally it works just enough, but clearly needs some drivers specifically for it.
