Tram 1480 Amateur Dual-Band Base Antenna
mulit-band, multi-brand
- Pros: Works well, EZ assembly and mount. Seal the joint between the two vertical parts. Also sold as Workman UV200S, Diamond X200A. Has stood up to 50mph gusts already.
- Cons: Angle from mount tube to vertical can be a touch off. Mast clamps are wimpy and not standard u-clamp sized. After breaking one I had to bend a standard home store one to fit.
- Other Thoughts: Working like a champ at 22'. A lot more repeaters usable than previous dipole @ 21'. Will be moving to different pole @ 28' soon.

Piece of garbage Childs toy
- Pros: Reasonable cost for cheep childs toy. at 47$ it might out perform a fisher price radio.
- Cons: it is a garbage childs toy, suitable only for talking to your children in the back yard.
- Other Thoughts: 25 miles? what in space? Rural BC, no buildings, only trees, mostly flat ish land. I got it, for safety and coverage while skiing, biking, and in the back country, as well as to keep contact with children and wife for pickups.
range. < 3 KM. My metric conversion isn't at it's best but last I heard there was a small gap between 2.5 km, and 25 miles.
All I needed was a 6-12 km range. I guess expecting 50% of stated range was asking too much.

Best Bang talkies
- Pros: Decent build quality. Sale price = no brainer.
- Cons: No privacy codes, Range / Static? slightly staticy
- Other Thoughts: Picked a few of these up on sale. Work fine for office work mapping network cables.

Solid, reliable radio
- Pros: -Loud, clear receive audio
-Decent transmit audio (not the best, but still very audible)
-Lithium Ion battery (BIG plus)
-Common Microphone connector
-Decent drop in charger
-Very simple to operate
-Durable design
-Spring loaded belt clip (important! Many of the inexpensive radio's aren't spring loaded)
-Programming cable (not included) uses standard PL-2303 chipset - Cons: -Hard to see numbers on channel knob, it would be nice if they where filled in white or silver
-Poor squelch control: Turned down to 1 it's WAY to sensitive to noise, but still doesn't break quick enough for valid transmissions.
-Programming cable not included (I have one that I ordered separately which was 3/4 the price of the radio. You've been warned)
-Programming software is fairly simple, but lacking in ease of use and reliability.
You cannot tab-over in the software like a spreadsheet program. It tends to crash at random, make sure to save often! Early versions of the programming software reported as a virus, and many versions floating around actually do (get it from a reputable source). Does not work in Wine (important to me!)
- Other Thoughts: LED Light? Why? This isn't really a bad thing, but I would rather have the money gone into other parts.
Overall this is an excellent radio for everything from Business band to Amateur radio.
If I had one big thing to change it would be the time out on the squelch. It only "checks" for a transmission every 1-2 seconds it seems, which results in the beginning of the transmission being cut off. I would rather be able to control this, and turn off the time-out altogether (and consume more battery life). Sometimes we really need quick, short transmissions.

- Pros: Cost, FM Radio works OK.
- Cons: Poorly written instruction manual. When you first turn it on your greeted with audio, indicating the programming mode. If you make a mistake and want to reset defaults,your greeted in Chinese. No mention of how to get English back. No Eggs is not a choice when writing the review.
- Other Thoughts: According to the manual, programming can be done from a PC, with optional software and a patch cable (not included) but when returning to reseller to order the options, I was unable to locate the radio or the options on there website. A poor purchase choice on my part.

Great Buy
- Pros: After reading the posted reviews, I was a little reluctlant in purchasing the radios.
After receiving I call Midland about how to charge. The charger is plugged into the mic plug.
I was in my house and I talked to my friend three blocks away in his house. The sound is clear as a crystal.
We use radios of this type when we are hunting. The terrain plays a big part in reception.
Great Radios. If you know anything about CB'S or Walkie Talkies you know that Midland has been around along time. - Cons: None
