Categories > Intel Motherboards > GIGABYTE > GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Solid Motherboard with plenty of connections
Pros: -A solid board that didn't give me any problems installing into my Enthoo Pro case. Everything lined up and was easy to screw down.
-Easy to install a Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler.
-Several USB 3.0 and 3.1 connections, as well as more available through onboard headers. The Oculus Compatibility tool reports that these ports are compatible for use with the Oculus Rift.
-XMP Profile was easy to load.
-Easy to overclock my 6700k to 4.6GHz through the BIOS.
-The ability to reset the BIOS through a simple button is a nice feature, that I thankfully haven't had to make use of at this point.
Cons: -Ambient LED feature did not allow changing colors, though there were settings to turn the LEDS on, off, or pulse (breathing effect).
-HDMI 2.0 connection would have been nice, rather than HDMI 1.4.
Other Thoughts: Very satisfied with this purchase. The board is very sturdy and I didn't have any problems hooking anything up to it. I found the BIOS easy to use, and overclocking was pretty simple.

Pros: Seems to work as advertised. Some options are a gimmick, but an all around good mobo.
Cons: Could have been cheaper, rebate is scam-tacular

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Good Features for the Price
Pros: Board worked without issues.
The online BIOS update works well.
UEFI menus are easy to navigate.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: This board offers decent features an the z170 chipset for a low price. It works well with skylake processors, and DDR4 2133 memory. Minimal drivers were required to be installed manually with windows 10.

Categories > Intel Motherboards > ASUS > ASUS Z170-A LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 Good price, terrible for overclocking
Pros: Good value for money, solid board in every respect except overclocking
Cons: -Advertised as supporting DDR4 3400, won't even POST with a 3200 kit set above 3000 (tried with both Corsair and G.Skill, the RAM isn't problem)
-ASUS's own suggested VCCIO and System Agent voltages cause the board not to POST

Categories > Intel Motherboards > ASRock > ASRock ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming Z170 Gaming-ITX/ac LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Killed 3 CPU's with this board.
Pros: Picked this board as it was most-featured; in particular, HDMI2.0 was nice. This is my first Mini-ITX. Doesn't appear you have to miss anything with this small form factor: this board has everything on it already!
Cons: First, there was the ACPI bug.
Then, there was the fact that it killed my processor (Machine Check exception). Problem appeared after a month or so; the board itself appeared to work, and with second processor it worked again, until that processor, again, died after a few months; no machine check that time, just stone dead.
After it killed the third processor (again, machine check exception), decided that I wasn't going to let this board kill a fourth CPU, and moved on to another board. Third CPU lasted all of two months in this board, and gave Machine Check exceptions before killing the processor stone dead.

Its very sad, on paper this board had all the cards. But in the end it was a very expensive gambit.
Other Thoughts: ASRock needs to reply to comments left on their support forum.

Categories > Intel Motherboards > Configurator > MB GIGABYTE | GA-X99-SLI RTL Configurator

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 "Configurator" has everything you need, except the required CPU fan.
Pros: For the motherboard:
* Has plenty of peripheral spaces to plug in your USB.
* 4 channel memory and PCIe lanes
* good price for features offered
* Plenty of space for expansion
* Lots of excellent features
* Has connections for water cooling
* So many SATA connectors

Memory:
I got the CORSAIR Vengeance LPX, I have owned CORSAIR memory and they are well built, doesn't overheat and haven't had memory error issues that would BSoD my system. Easy to install, and very straight forward.

The NewEgg configurator is nice to ensure you have the right parts that fit together, takes some of the guesswork to match a good compatible fit.
Cons: CPU:
The CPU does NOT come with a fan or any cooling, you have to buy it separately. You would think the NewEgg configurator would also offer you some basic cooling options (or warnings) for such a vital piece of required equipment.

Motherboard:
* Comes with version F1 of BIOS, as mentioned elsewhere, you MUST upgrade to latest (stable/non-beta) BIOS after OS install or risk a malfunctioning board. BIOS upgrade fixed problems and is mandatory for proper operations.
* "Rear Panel LED": LIES! It does not exist on the board as the NewEgg "Features" tab says. But the Ambient LED is there and kinda cool.
* Not enough chassis fan headers, only 3, while my case had 5 fans.
* ATX4P (PCIe supplemental power) power connector at bottom of board is facing down is difficult to reach/connect once mounted, I recommend that you plug it in before finally screwing on the board to case.

HDD:
* No SSD option. Really wanted an SSD, but I also needed a larger capacity, but slower data storage drive anyways.
Other Thoughts: Don't forget to get a CPU fan/cooling system. The CPU does NOT come with any "stock" cooling fans.

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Board is great!
Pros: I love the color scheme on this board, the expandable ram slots, and the solidity of this board (Not flimsy like some boards I have owned). For the price, it's worth the money!
Cons: My only con is the Cobra head on the board. If you hook a GPU into the board, then the cool design is hidden forever :(
Other Thoughts: I have recommended this to friends.

Pros: Great while it lasted
Cons: This thing lasted for appx a month and ran beautifully before all of a sudden the onboard power button stopped lighting up and the computer wouldn't turn on all together. Now a RED LED light next to the CMOS battery is lit and nothing will turn on.

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 You are better off getting another mobo and a separate wi-fi card
Pros: -cheap
-does everything it needs to as a mbo
-has wi-fi
Cons: -hard to work with especially wi-fi card
-wi-fi card is only single stream, not dual
Other Thoughts: If you have high speed internet like 50-100Mbps and are a decent amount away from router you should consider buying a mobo for $70 and a wi-fi card for $30 that has dual band and will work much better. Don't be like me and be cheap and end up with like 20Mbps or if placed in a good position 30Mbps. Get something else or understand this is not the best wi-fi
