Categories > Accessories Barebone > ECS (EliteGroup) > ECS LIVA USB HUB Gift

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Cheap Junk
Pros: - Has 3 USB ports and memory card slots
- Comes with white USB mini-B cable. I didn't have many of those.
Cons: - Won't read SD cards. Doesn't seem to be a mechanical problem. Device Manager just shows the card reader continually appearing/disappearing. I don't have any other devices connected to the hub.
- NO Warranty (the box says "Not for resale. No warranty provided"
- Blue light is obnoxious
- Surprisingly large. It's about half the size of the LIVA PC it came with
- USB 2.0, even though it's bundled with a USB 3.0 device which would allow you to power bigger devices through the hub
- Cheaply made. It creaks when you plug stuff into it from the frame flexing.
Other Thoughts: I was actually excited to get this thing and pay a little more for the 64GB bundle to get it. Now I have basically a USB LED. Maybe I'll break it apart and use it for mood lighting.

Categories > Accessories Barebone > MINIX > Minix NEO-M1 2.4GHz Wireless GyroMouse For MINIX NEO Series

Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3 wanted more
Pros: FAST, must faster then my hope to replace WDTV Live. A lot more features then the WDTV could ever provide, and much more customizable too. Natural this is do to the Android OS vs whatever is built in with the WD. So party like its 1999, this device should last well into the future for many peoples needs (Media player, web, social, gaming).
Also, with the AirPin Pro app built in, you "can" show your iOS device on the screen and Andriod too. So saves you form needing an Apple TV and something else. It doesn't work perfectly, but the fact I could do it at all is a PRO.
Cons: Remote control (default IR). Sucks. No other way to say it. There is virtually nothing good about it. The fact that it does anything is remarkable, because its that bad. If you get the free RF remote, you will pretty much needed its all the time.
You can't use a universal remote with this like a logitech. Since the original remote sucks so bad (last play, FF, RW, Stop, Pause buttons), you can't even IR to IR to another remote to learn the codes. MAJOR deal breaker. My WD device works perfectly (however its SLOW, which is why I got this unit to replace it). The WD remote does everthing the device can do, and what can be controlled. Amazing that the MINIX can't, literally can't do these functions. How was this overlooked? If you want more functionality, you need to use the XBMC app (iOS or Android) to get more of the remote control features you should have already had with the basic remote.
Also, at least for my videos. I get an "extra" letter box bar at the top and bottom. Just so I am clear, these are 'EXTRA' not the normal letter box bars in many movies. Which are also not centered properly. I have to manually fix this for each movie, every time. Again, this isn't something you fix once to properly adjust XBMC (app) to your screen. It's almost the same process, but for EACH movie I have, every time. I have to basically ZOOM the picture while watching it, then bring it back to original or normal to have the 'extra' black bars go away.
This system locks up (too frequently for me). Not completely shut down and reboot. More like a hang for about 10 or so seconds. Hasn't done this while watching anything. Mainly while going thru the menus and settings.
Lastly the 2.5TB external drive support is ridiculous. MINIX needs to update to fix this immediately.
Other Thoughts: I want to love this thing so bad. My negatives are just out right deal breakers. It is a good unit for what it should be able to do. I can't for the life of me figure how an old WDTV Live does a better job of managing and playing media (not 4K) better, and easier then this brand new piece of hardware. How it can lack such basic remote control support, super basic! It RIPS thru your video files no problem. I love how fast this thing is and when right, IS what I want my media player to be. I just can't use it properly yet. Lets not even get on the NETFLIX suck at 480p no matter what issue. That is widely known yes, but still, hack that or something to make it work at 1080p.

I'm ranting on this. Again, if you have many other uses for this device, it may very well work good for you.

Categories > Accessories Barebone > MINIX > Minix NEO-M1 2.4GHz Wireless GyroMouse For MINIX NEO Series

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Wrong item, poor customer service procedures
Pros: I have been unable to use this item because it is not what I ordered.
Cons: I ordered the Minix NEO X8H and the Minix companion mouse. The delivery was quick. The mouse I received was the wrong one it was made by Zenith. I contacted customer service and the process was so convoluted that I was unable to make only the exchange of the mouse. I have purchased a great many things from Newegg and have been extremely pleased with both the products and the service. This not what I have come to expect and am frustrated and disappointed.

Categories > Accessories Barebone > MINIX > Minix NEO-M1 2.4GHz Wireless GyroMouse For MINIX NEO Series

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 A strike out
Pros: When it works, the RF operation of this remote works pretty well and is responsive.
Cons: The battery life will not even last through a full day of use. It has a built in rechargeable battery so you can't even swap out for a new battery if one dies half-way through your movie. The air mouse functionality is very poor and requires constant calibration. The power button only works via IR not RF like the rest of the buttons so you will still have to have your device out in plain sight. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a RF remote.

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Media Center Remote
Pros: These are good media center remotes. The range is good and the functions work in Windows Media Center. Some functions work with other media apps.
Cons: If you have an Xbox 360 and computer in the same room the power button will turn both devices on.

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Cant play it
Pros: It was free
Cons: This game does not run on Linux. All my computers run Linux. I could load it up in a win7 VM but I'm not going to boot a VM just to play a game.
Other Thoughts: If the game worked on Linux I would most likely give it 5 eggs.

Categories > Accessories Barebone > Foxconn > Slim Magnetic DVD Burner for Barebone

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 NIce addition to the Foxconn Nettop
Pros: Works great and matches the little Nettop perfectly. LOVE that it's a slot loading drive instead of a tray!
Cons: The magnets don't attach quite firmly enough for my tastes. It stays put, but it shifts around a little and gets out of alignment with the PC at time.
Other Thoughts: The magnetic attachment is cool, but I'd gladly trade it for an option to physically attach the drive with screws to the PC. As a drive, it works flawlessly.

Categories > Accessories Barebone > ASUS > ASUS ThunderboltEX II Expansion Card

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Card works, but you are very limited
Pros: The card works as advertised
Blazing fast speed
You can daisy chain components
Can enable use of Apple Thunderbolt Display
Cons: To use the video, you must connect a big displayport wire from your video card to the Thunderbolt card. This isn't a huge deal, it can just be unsightly if you are going for a single-wire setup from the pc.

It absolutely will not work unless you have one of the following motherboards:

MAXIMUS VI EXTREME
SABERTOOTH Z87
Z87-PRO
Z87-PRO(V EDITION)
Z87-PLUS
Z87-PLUS(VivoMouse EDITION)
Z87-A
Z87-A(NFC EXPRESS EDITION)
Other Thoughts: I originally purchased the card (and subsequently a compatible motherboard) to be able to connect my Apple Thunderbolt Display to my PC. While the display works fine, I've found that unless you are running PC peripherals, there will be no driver support, so all the added functionality from the display (eg. USB, Brightness, etc) does not work.
