Categories > Memory & Chipset Cooling > G.SKILL > G.SKILL FTB-3500C5-D Fans

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Great value. Works well.
Pros: Excellent price. Easy to install. The legs of the cooler simply clamp against the tabs of your memory slots. It's not the most secure attachment method as it's simply held on with tension, but it's sitting in a computer case so it doesn't have to be bolted down. It fits snugly when properly attached after bending in the legs per the instructions. Power cable is sleeved and has a passthrough molex connector.
Cons: The metal it's made of is not spring steel or anything. It's very soft and flexible but not springy. It would have been nice if it was made of a springy metal for peace of mind. My fan came bent to hell on one side (because of how soft the metal is) and because Newegg simply mailed the box in a padded/bubblewrap envelope. I was able to bend it back roughly to shape easily enough because of how soft the metal is.
Other Thoughts: I did not realize it had blue LEDs on the fans. I'm probably going to shroud them with nail polish or at the very least a permanent marker to dim them. It would have been nice if there was a way to switch them on or off but for $15 I guess you can't expect a plethora of features.

Pros: See below
Cons: I could not get this to fit my ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX/GEN3 R2.0 - went too long to return so I'm stuck with it.
Manufacturer Response:.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had issues. This memory fan fits over the memory slots, so it should fit just fine. The tension can be adjusted by bending the two mounting legs on each end. This is a dual 3,500 RPM high flow memory fan so it should be great in your system. It will drastically lower memory temps by pushing hot air out of the area. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

Pros: Looks really cool in a case that has a window. Keeps your RAM very cool, extremely easy installation, and keeps vampires at bay (you don't want any case vampires, they suck)
Cons: So loud. I had to decrease my overclock and unplug it after a few weeks because it was driving me insane. And it's not your general loud computer sound. It's a high pitched whir.
Other Thoughts: Pun intended on the vampire thing
Manufacturer Response:.
Dear Customer

Glad to hear the memory fan was extremely easy to install and keeps your RAM very cool. With regards to sound, we can assist you with this. The dual 3,500 RPM fans should be near silent, so if they are loud with a high pitch whirl, please send them in for RMA exchange. We will be glad to send you a new one that should be much quieter. For any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

Categories > Memory & Chipset Cooling > Kingston HyperX > Kingston HyperX KHX-FAN-B Fans

Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3 My fault
Pros: Is well built, sturdy, and looks nice.
Cons: Can't fit over my RAM with my H100i cooler. The tubes from the H100i CPU cooler is in the way, and doesn't give near enough room for the HyperX to mount over the RAM.
Other Thoughts: Make sure you have enough room, and your CPU cooler/water cooling isn't too big or in the way!

Categories > Memory & Chipset Cooling > Corsair > CORSAIR CMXAF2 Fan & Heatsinks

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Buzzing Fans Are Not Warm Enough
Pros: Easy installation, runs quiet enough in systems where it's necessary (see "Other Thoughts" for more on that).

Decided to install this on (then) new LGA1366 build I was doing because I don't have AC and had all six DIMM slots populated (2x triple channel kits). Figured extra airflow would be a good idea in a system that would experience less them optimal air temperatures and airflow due to the DIMMs being so close together.

Unit has been running almost constantly (I rarely turn my PC off) for over two years with no issues (knock on wood).
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I have also experienced the fans occasionally making a high pitched buzzing noise. This usually occurs on cool nights when I have my windows open and the air temp in my room falls below 70 degrees F.

I believe the issue is that this unit is designed to be installed as additional cooling in systems that are running hot, and the bearings in the fans are designed for optimum operation in a high heat environment.

When it gets cold whatever passes for lubricant in the fans gets sticky and causes strain on the motors, which produces the buzzing noise.

This extra strain of pushing cold bearings will also cause the fans to wear out faster, which would explain why most people who complain about the buzzing noise also complain about the fans dying.

If your fans are constantly making a buzzing it means you probably don't need this unit. They're good eye candy but in reality most systems do not need a memory cooler.

Categories > Memory & Chipset Cooling > SILENX > SilenX IXN-40C Copper Chipset Cooler

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Could work, for some.
Pros: Full copper
Seems to have a wide mounting array
Comes with a silent fan
Cons: Can't find any measurements so may not fit some applications
Other Thoughts: Wouldn't fit on my board. The cooling fan for the chipset on my EVGA SLI board went out and one does not simply replace their "innovative blower-type chipset fan." I figured that I could replace the heatsink with these but I was mistaken. It kind of fits on my southbridge and somewhat fits there, after I moved my GPU and soundcard around. The northbridge doesn't fit at all and I had to improvise using zipties.

On the plus side even though it's on there using make-shift methods the temps did drop a little bit so they must be good. I'm going to try something else to get better cooling for me but will be holding onto these, may come in handy for something else someday.

Categories > Memory & Chipset Cooling > SILENX > SilenX IXN-40C Copper Chipset Cooler

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Excellent Buy
Pros: full burnin use went from 144°F to 112°F. << with fan installed. It fit with no issues on my ASUS motherboard.
I used Arctic Silver in place of what it came with. Fan runs quieter then my CPU cooling fan.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Fins bend real easy while installing, but are easy to bend back with a small screwdriver once properly mounted. I am buying another one for my second computer.
