Categories > Internal SSD > SanDisk > SanDisk Extreme SDSSDX-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Still going strong after 6 months
Pros: I am running this as my desktop boot drive in an Intel i7 system. Have never had a bit of trouble with it. Never had to update the firmware. You already know how fast SSDs are so I won't try to impress you with that. :)
Cons: none, I can't even complain about price since I got it at a ridiculously low price during the Newegg Black Friday sale last Fall.
Other Thoughts: Windows 7
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3

Waiting for prices on 512 GB SSDs to come down so I can use one as my data drive.

Categories > Internal SSD > SanDisk > SanDisk SDSSDP-064G-G25 2.5" 64GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 Good at first
Pros: I bought this SSD to put my OS on it while I install everything else to a 1.5TB HDD and it works well as that. Sort of.
Cons: I noticed something was off when I first ran the Windows Experience Index and it said it couldn't do it because of some issue with the disk. I was able to retry immediately and it went through and gave the SSD a score of 7.5/7.9. Not great for an SSD, but you get what you pay for, right? After a while I started getting Blue Screens. I booted into Windows XP that I had installed on a 250GB HDD and ran it for several hours without any issues. I've run chkdsk on all of the disks, run memory diagnostics, and updated drivers and the BIOS but have still been seeing blue screens and will occasionally get error messages about the hard drive.
Other Thoughts: I know I should probably RMA it, but I don't want to leave my PC without Windows 7 for the RMA period and I'm not sure I want a replacement since it's not that fast anyway, I'll probably buy another brand of SSD.

Categories > Internal SSD > ADATA > ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-64GM-C 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Died after short time, annoying RMA process
Pros: Seemed fast (didn't have a chance to benchmark it). When it failed, it didn't catch fire or take out the motherboard.
Cons: Failed after about 2-3 hours of usage ... just enough time for me to get a new home theater system set up and updated, then have it die on me. Unfortunately right after the initial Linux Mint installation was done, I cleaned up and threw away the packaging, so was unable to return to NewEgg... oops.

The RMA process with ADATA has been annoying. I called, and was told it was after hours and RMAs were not available by phone anyhow, but I should try resetting the drive's controller "a few times" by powering it up with no data cable connected. This didn't do anything - and even if it had worked, I'd still think I had a defective unit.

So I emailed them. They responded the next day. Their email form asked for a "warranty code" in addition to the serial number, but didn't include any instructions on how to find the warranty code - on the bottom, not visible if the drive is mounted in the included 2.5-3.5 adapter - so that took an extra email. After the weekend, they finally emailed me an RMA number so I could return the drive. I shipped the drive back to them at my own expense, and I have not yet received the replacement (although I got a notice yesterday that it is on its way).

It's now been more than two weeks since I first talked to them and I don't have my replacement drive yet even though we are both in California. Customer support was friendly, but returns processing is anything but slick, and response time is bad.
Other Thoughts: I guess I should've bought a trusted brand.

Categories > Internal SSD > OCZ Technology > OCZ Synapse Cache SYN-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB (64GB cache capacity) SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Absolute garbage. Inherently flawed.
Pros: None.
Cons: Completely unreliable, and if the stupid Dataplex software doesn't load completely on boot, all data is lost. Permanently. Completely. Even in a RAID (all drives are lost). Wanna give up and use it as an SSD? Too bad. Will only work for XP or Linux. Vista and higher hang if you try to access it.
Other Thoughts: OCZ needs to take this back and replace it with a real SSD or give us credit towards one. This is one of the worst tech products I have ever used. Will never buy OCZ again.

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Shot of Adrenalin
Pros: For 31 bucks AR, this gives new life to an aging desktop. Installation was simple, Windows 7 installed without issues. Boot time is about 17 Sec. Read times are about 235. Came with the latest firmware. Packaging was great.
Cons: Write time are lagging, about 100, well below posted speeds.
Other Thoughts: This is a dual core AMD 5600+ CPU, with 2 gigs of DDR2 PC6400 RAM. It had XP, and I was ready to give it away. Adding this SSD and installing Win7 added another 2 years of life. This is not my primary desktop, and is used for surfing and remote connection to work.

Number one rule when upgrading to a SSD, disconnect your current HDD when firing up this SSD for the first time and installing the OS. Once the OS is installed, then reconnect your HDD.

Categories > Internal SSD > Crucial > Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 do not buy
Pros: fast, while it worked...
Cons: as several others have posted, drive died after 1 year, random BSODs, not recognized in bios. Crucial came up with every excuse not to RMA, finally just gave up and purchased the g.skill phoenix (which im quite happy with). This will be the last crucial product I ever buy and will make sure none of my friends ever purchase something of such low quality. Even tried the firmware update in hopes of being able to use it again, but no luck.

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 OCZ Vector VTR1 512GB
Pros: Terrific Speed, Easy Install, Absolutely No Problems Encountered. The HD is so fast, it allows me to have Bitdefender antivirus and firewall at max protect and not even know it.
Cons: OCZ Toolbox was a waste of a download, but I'm not entirely sure If I had the right version. Will notify OCZ and get their expert opinion.
Other Thoughts: Expensive, but well worth it! I hope OCZ doesn't come out with a larger/faster drive for awhile, or I'll be chomping at the bit to buy another one of their products.

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Was fine when it was working
Pros: Was fast.
Worked flawlessly for about 2 months.
Cons: Failed after 2 months, lost everything i had on there. OCZ has an absolutely terrible RMA process, when you contact customer support they seem really rude and poorly trained. After doing research it seems these drives tend to die 1-3 months after you start using them. OCZ of course denies that theres a problem with these drives. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
