Pros: Well-designed
Well-packaged
Easy to operate
Cons: Clamps could be a little larger
Other Thoughts: I own a 1998 Jeep XJ that is well-maintained. Last March, after replacing all shocks, I noticed a rattle coming from the front end. After replacing all the usual suspects (track bar, steering linkage, TC linkage, sway bar links, upper and lower control arms, etc.) the rattle was still present. Three mechanics and eight months later, out of frustration, I bought the Chassis Ear and got to work. Less than two hours later, I found the source of the problem -- the noise was coming from the passenger side steering knuckle. Turns out the brake caliper was hitting the knuckle. A few anti-rattle clips and new pins and the problem was solved. The only problem is I should have bought the Chassis Ear a lot sooner.

Other people have written that the device throws off a good deal of feedback (static) and that is true to some extent because the device is very sensitive. If the clamps are located close to a wheel, or someting that is in constant motion, you will hear static. Common road impact will also cause the clamps to jar slightly. That said, once you clamp the cable to the real source of your problem, it will be unmistakable to user's ear.

All in all, the Chassis Ear saves time. Even if you aren't able to immediately locate the source of the problem, it will enable you to rule things out. That, in and of itself, was a great help.

The product is well designed, easy to use, and comes in a great carrying case for easy storage. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with the purchase and I'm sure it will pay for itself in short order.
