HooToo HT-CR001 PCI-E to 3-Port USB 3.0 Bay Hub + 6 Slots All-In-One Card Reader

Taking Advantage
- Pros: The PCIe 1x slot wasn't being used at all on my Dell Dimension E521. It didn't have USB 3.0 and it feels so sweet to finally use my USB 3.0 external HDD to its full potential.
- Cons: I think this device is preventing my computer from staying in sleep/standby (low power) mode when it is not in use. I select sleep and the computer instantly resumes from sleep. That never happened before.
I wish this device was just as long as my DVD drives because I had to reconfigure the power chords. Right now it is an awkward setup where one DVD drive cannot be powered. I guess I need to buy a Molex extension chord.
- Other Thoughts: Does this device require a minimum PSU wattage? My PSU outputs a maximum of 305W and 300W are already being consumed by my GFX card (no external power connections, the GFX card is being powered by the motherboard).

Great!
- Pros: Great piece of equipment. It's made of metal, so it's easy to install. Cord is long enough to reach MB even in my full tower setup.
- Cons: None

CTCStore USB 2.0 High Speed Memory Card Reader Writer for SD SDHC MiniSD MiniSDHC MMC rsMMC - Black

Cheap!
- Pros: None I can think of.
- Cons: This thing is the cheapest plastic I have ever seen. The two end caps just fall off on their own. They will not stay on. The contacts where the SD card meet the device are intermittent, which causes read/write failures.
- Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and spent an extra few bucks.
I just tossed mine in the trash.

HooToo® HT-CR002 External USB 3.0 Multi-in-One Card Reader (4 Memory Slots, Genesys GL3220 Chipset) & SuperSpeed USB 3.0 3-Port Hub (VIA VL810 Chipset, 5V/2A Power Adapter, 3 feet USB 3.0 Cable)

Junk
- Pros: none
- Cons: I bought 3 devices from the HooToo product line all on the same day but from 2 different Vendors. The HT-PC001 (2) and 1 HT-CR002. I had issues from the get go with the HT-CR002 external carder reader from them. The USB 3 ports were acting like USB 2 ports. When I put a USB 3 hard drive in the port WIN7 said it could run faster in a different port. The sd card slot kept dropping out and the CF slot would not even register that it had a card in it. I tried it on 3 support computers with same results. They need to get a handle on there ESD and Quality controls. I will never buy a Hootoo product again. Below is my exchange with their Rep.
I already sent the product back about 2 hours before I got this email, but thanks. Do you guys make all the HooToo products? The reason for a return instead of exchange is that I also have 2 Hootoo HT-PC001's that I got the same day from XXXXXX. The external device I used on 3 different computers all with the same results. As to the HT-PC001's one is in a PC and the other is still in the box. The one in the PC is continuing to drop devices off of it. I tried the drivers on the CD and the ones on the website all with the same results. Yes the power cord is plugged into it. I have a full ESD setup connected to earth ground, for working on computers because I work on a lot of them. I got these other PC cards at XXXXXX and with 2 of these products showing problems I am going to return both of these HT-PC001's to XXXXXX also. I cannot have faulty cards dropping out on customers. So if you can help me with that great. Otherwise I will also be contacting XXXXXX shortly.
Response from Customer Care from NewEgg.
"Dear Giles XXXXXXXXX,
I just received your RMA request via NewEgg about the HooToo USB 3.0 card reader.
I understand that the reason why you want to return the item and request a refund. Since this is our product's problem, I will provide you a pre-paid shipping label for returning. But NewEgg will automatically remove all attachments and email address so I am not able to email you directly now. Please kindly use your own email address to contact HooToo support email that is listed behind the user manual and provide them you order ID at the same time. A pre-paid shipping label for returning will be provided at that moment.
By the way, I understand your disappointment in this case but external USB 3.0 devices should have one in a hundred defective rate and be functioning, so if a replacement of this product you would prefer at this moment, please let me know also.
Any problems, don't hesitate to contact me again.
Best Regards, Demi Protrend Customer Care "

Fast!
- Pros: This works exactly as it should. Shipping was incredibly fast. The size is just right, I don't need a big card reader for this.
- Cons: Can't think of any.
- Other Thoughts: If you're looking for just a compact flash reader, this is great. I use mine to read Cisco CF cards in routers and such. It's perfect and fast.

Nippon Labs Delux 3.5" Internal All In One Card Reader/Writer with USB2.0 & eSATA Ports Model ICR-BB

- Pros: Works... so far.
- Cons: No bottom under the CF/MD slot; just open space.
USB slot is upside-down (I guess it's sort of nice to have my flash drive's LED pointing at the floor instead of my face, though still annoying when I try to plug it in downside-down).
Holes don't line up with my case's tray; to line them up, this unit would either be sticking half an inch out or be recessed half an inch back. Since I can't drill more holes into the tray, had to drill them into this unit's fuselage.
- Other Thoughts: Seeing the other reviews for this product failing in a time period of about a month, I'm going to have to wait to see if mine will also fail in that time frame (or sooner).

Worse than junk
- Pros: None
- Cons: This reader did not work at all. Not only did it not read the files off my CF card, it corrupted them and I had to spend days using recovery software to get my pictures back. This is the worst experience I have ever had buying electronic equipment.
- Other Thoughts: Stay away! Do not buy. I wish I could give it 0 eggs.

Piece of junk
- Pros: None
- Cons: Plugged the card reader into the USB connector on my motherboard. The power would turn on and empty drives appeared for each of the card slots. Inserting a SD card turned on the activity light but the card never showed up in any of the drives.
