great storage solution
- Pros: super easy set up
- Cons: non yet
- Other Thoughts: I had an issue with the chipset on my machine (HP p6 2330, Windows 8). I emailed tech support and they replied within an hour - very helpful. Turns out my machine will not work with USB 3.0, but runs just fine in USB2.0 I cannot take any eggs off for this as it not a problem with the Nexstar unit.
This raid enclosure does everything it claims to do, and very well, backed with excellent support. i will purchase another unit shortly and will recommend it to friends.

Works with 4TB
- Pros: I've purchased several of these enclosures over the years - first the V1 and then recently the V2. I've been pretty happy with them. Recently I purchased a 4TB disk (WD4001FAEX) and decided to try it in this enclosure even though the documentation says that it works only up to 3TB. I tried it on three different systems (Win7-64 Pro and Home) using both eSATA and USB. I was successful in all cases. The only difficulty was that I had to upgrade the Intel storage driver on one computer since my old version didn't support a 4TB disk. None of my systems have a BIOS that supports GPT, so I do have to boot from another disk.
General pros:
Sturdy and well built; Fan keeps the disk cool.
eSATA is fast. I get slightly over 150MB/sec using the above mentioned 4TB disk. - Cons: No product is perfect. This one has a few minor annoyances:
1) The timeout feature that was added in V2 is annoying. The firmware upgrade corrects the problem and is easy to install.
2) The included eSATA cable is a bit flimsy and doesn't fit snugly into the connector (especially if the connector is oriented vertically). I purchased a few better quality cables to use when I have problems.
3) The enclosure has two blue LEDs. One is illuminated whenever power is on. The other LED appears to be a "drive in use" indicator, but it works only when using USB. When using eSATA, the LED just gives a very quick flash that can only be seen in a dark room. The V1 enclosure didn't have this problem and the "drive in use" LED worked the same for both USB and eSATA.

Still going strong
- Pros: have had this running almost non stop for over a year now with no problems
set a samsung 1.0 tb stat 3.0 gbs HD103SJ in it and i love the extra storage it gives me - Cons: i have no issues with this device.
- Other Thoughts: blue led on front, might conflict with other lighting on pc or peripherals you might have, but is well concealed in desk or cabinet.

Buy another brand!
- Pros: I do video work with large files that I need to access and then store when a job is done. I liked this thing when it worked. Allowed me to buy a stack of internal drives and swap in and out as needed. Awesome for backing up data, archiving and then accessing seldom used files etc. I liked i so much that I bought a second one.
Support is friendly but no help unless it's still in warranty. - Cons: They don't last long. Mine is just over a year old and no longer writes. Tried multiple drives, changing cables, and swapping power supplies* with another one I have that I now expect to fail. I will buy another dock as I like the usefulness of them. Won't buy another Vantec anything.
*Power supplies seem to be the usual cause of write failures. In his case it's something else. I now have a spare power supply of my other one.
- Other Thoughts: Read the other reviews, these don't hold up.

does not support 2TB WD WD20EADS green HD
- Pros: there's a switch to turn off the blue LED lights
- Cons: It can handle a 1TB WD green hard drive without a problem, but a 2TB WD20EADS won't be recognized.
apathetic support, download of the PDF manual off the thermaltake site is a 404 link
- Other Thoughts: i don't even know why i'm giving this 2 stars

2/4 we ordered weren't functional
- Pros: The devices that did work performed well, enumerated quickly and saw peak speeds of 120MBps, average about 100MBps on a contiguous files. It took about three hours to transfer the 1.2TB I needed from one disk to another. The fans appear to work well.
- Cons: Of the four devices I tried, one device did not recognise the drive inside and another stalled while attempting to read a file from it. This is unacceptable from a quality standpoint. Were these devices even tested?
- Other Thoughts: This is not a cheap enclosure, at $80 i would have expected the interface to be tested at least. If you're thinking about ordering, flip a coin on whether the device you receive will be any good. We're going to RMA the other two that don't function.

Reliable Enclosure so far
- Pros: High quality contruction, Aluminum for better heat dissipation, and E-SATA (Much better than USB).
- Cons: None that I can think of.
- Other Thoughts: I have had this enclosure for more than 2 years, and paired it with an older Western Digital Caviar Green EARS model. I noticed that people are complaining about quality control. Newegg might have gotten a bad shipment of defective products witch tends to happen sometimes no matter what company makes the product .

Excellent
- Pros: Very easy setup with 2 drives. Worked perfectly first time with no issues.
- Cons: Newegg does not stock these any more.
- Other Thoughts: Gets a little warm but probably more to do with the drives I chose to use.
