Categories > Processors - Desktops > Intel > Intel Core i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I76700K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Great for a new I7 build, not a great I7 upgrade.
Pros: Great single thread performance.
Supports DDR3L and DDR4 up to 64 gigs.
The onboard 530 graphics is decent for simple gaming and modern titles at low settings. It's also good for Quicksync video encoding and as a back up video in case you decide upgrade your video card ir your video dies.
A decent overclocking CPU.
Stays cool at at stock speed and mild to moderate overclocking with a good HF/S or water cooler.
Great stock base clock of 4 Ghz and turbos up to 4.2 Ghz.
14nm die.
No need to get a new cooling system, works with older sockets.
Doesn't come with the the usual useless HS/F, for this kind of chip why would you want stock cooling? Maybe for a non K chip, but at the 91 watts you should protect your investment.
6th gen Intel with the newest instruction sets.
Has hyperthreading for 8 total threads which is great for multitasking, gaming, video rendering and streaming game videos.
Cons: If you own an I7 that is from the 900 series, 2000 series and up and mostly do gaming, simple multitasking and mold to moderate rendering you're not going to get a massive performance gain. Unless you're getting this CPU for the new Z170 chipset and it's features I feel it's a waste of money.
For a hundred more you could get a I7 5820K or better yet the Skylake E is coming out soon and have a much better future proof system.
It's still uses the thermal paste die rather than the soldered on die unlike the extreme chips or the 2000 series K chips.
If you're a moderate to extreme gamer you'll find having the build in GPU to be a waste of money and thermal use. You'd still want to go with a separate GPU.
Doesn't have the PCI Express bandwidth that the extreme series has so you don't have the lane bandwidth to run 3 or 4 GPUs.
Only is dual channel memory.
Other Thoughts: If you're doing a fresh computer build for gaming and moderate computer apps, upgrading from an older system or want the features of the Z170 chipset I'd say this will be awesome.
Of you're looking for an upgrade from a I7 mainstream system then you're better off going with an Extreme series CPU and Chipset with 6 to 8 cores with hyperthreading. Since I mostly do moderate rendering tasks and moderate gaming I find this to be a sweet spot for my budget and I mostly got this for the Z170 chipset as well. I have no regrets getting this CPU personally.

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 A beautiful piece of silicon until I destroyed it.
Pros: 8 cores at 4 GHz
Solid hardware for the price, ran for days without a hiccup.
Cons: Fan assembly on the provided heatsink is not intuitive. Attempts to clean the dust from the processor fan resulted in physical damage. I would recommend an after market cooler for this product.
Other Thoughts: Once the stock cooler is placed on the chip, never remove it. This is good general advice for any processor.

Categories > Processors - Desktops > AMD > AMD A10-7860K with AMD quiet cooler Quad-Core Socket FM2+ 65W AD786KYBJCSBX Desktop Processor AMD Radeon R7

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Overall a good buy
Pros: This is a surprisingly effective, cool-running CPU (Using stock fan, was getting 34 degrees C idle in a Thermaltake Core V1 case using an ITX motherboard.) It's no speed demon, but it'll run XCOM: Enemy Unknown near 30 fps (mid to high 20s) at 1080p with all graphics settings at high. XCOM 2 is a different story, however. Even with tweaked settings, I found it never got higher than 15 fps in gameplay, and sometimes dipped into single digits. The game was still playable since it's turn-based, but it was definitely a slideshow at times.
Cons: The stock fan is quiet, but gives off an annoying squealing noise at low RPMs, which was disappointing. Maybe I just got a bad one. Otherwise it does a good job of keeping the processor cool. The temps never went above 55 degrees C after an hour of Prime 95. (Note: I wiped off the thermal grease it came with and used Arctic Silver Ceramique 2.
Other Thoughts: Recommended, but be aware you may have to switch out the fan if you can't stand the squealing.

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Great Every-Day CPU for Tasks!
Pros: Had this CPU for 6 months now. Best dollar/speed for every day computing tasks. No problems setting up. Very stable and reliable. I have 30 years of experience building machines for various purposes and very impressed with this little processor. This Dual-Core has come a long way from earlier versions.
Cons: Dual-Core

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Overclocked right out of the box
Pros: Worked perfectly without any issues. Installed a third party cpu cooler and overclocked easily to 4 ghz as advertised without any stability issues. The CPU cooler that comes with it is a decent construction and better than the stock coolers of the past.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: works great

Categories > Processors - Desktops > Intel > Intel Pentium G3258 Haswell Dual-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1150 53W BX80646G3258 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 best balance of power/efficiency and affordability!
Pros: - easy install
- came as advertised
- great value/price for what you get
Cons: -none
Other Thoughts: I have installed on a ASRock C226M WS board used in a Fractal Node 804 running FreeNAS. I have 4-6 users at any given time playing media through plex (remotely and locally) and it handles everything just fine. It has improved my boot times, updates, etc. in FreeNAS (as expected) coming from an Intel Avoton C2550.
