Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 No Problems
Pros: Working great with both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. Nice and fast. Like that the cap can be attached to other side of stick.

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Catastrophic failure
Pros: Fast ... while it worked
Cons: Dead precisely 31 days after arrival. I used it pretty heavily to hold some virtual disk images. But there was no physical abuse whatsoever nor any physical damage. Then one day it just decided to die without any warning. Tried it on different computers and operating systems for salvage to no avail.

Categories > USB Flash Drives > Patriot Memory > Patriot Supersonic Boost XT 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model PEF16GSBUSB

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Worked for only 2 months, then failed on USB 3.0. Next, the rubber case came off.
Pros: OK while it worked.
Cons: Short life, lasted only 2 & 1/2 months with light use.
Flimsy construction - the rubber case pulled off when being unplugged.
Other Thoughts: At first it worked OK on both USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, but after 2 & 1/2 months of only light use it stopped working on USB 3.0 ports - its in-use LED no longer flashed and Windows began displaying the error message "USB device not recognized". It continued to work on USB 2.0 ports.

To test the computer's ports other USB 3.0 and 2.0 flash drives were plugged in, and they worked OK.

After all this, to add insult to injury, one day when this Patriot XT was being pulled out of the PC port, just the rubber case pulled off leaving the plug and its circuit board still sticking out of the port like a finger (the ports are not tighter than normal). Because of the way it's made the rubber case cannot be put back on the circuit board.

Bad all around!

Categories > USB Flash Drives > Kingston Technology Corp. > Kingston DataTraveler SE9 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model DTSE9H/16GBZ

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 The best flash drive
Pros: This is the best flash drive I've ever had. The design is phenomenal - no caps to lose, and has built-in hole to be secured in a keychain. Works as advertised. I'm using this to carry Windows 7 install-disk always handy, and it's saved my life plenty of times already.
Cons: None

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Died after a month
Pros: Small profile
Looks nice
Fits on keychain
Cons: Died after one month.
Other Thoughts: Can't afford to buy a new flash drive every month, nor can I afford to lose any data that might be on it. I was lucky this time.

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Horrible
Pros: Great while it lasted
Cons: I got this flash drive less than 1 year ago now.....it has completely crashed and is inaccessible, losing me valuable data that will be time consuming to redo. On a side note, I have never had any other flashdrive that I have owned crash, most of the time, I end up breaking them by whacking them on something when plugged into the computer

Categories > USB Flash Drives > Kingston Technology Corp. > Kingston DataTraveler R3.0 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTR30/16GB

Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3 Died about 2 months in.
Pros: When it works it is great, speed is good can boot from it on any system with no problem. Installed Windows 7 from it very quickly on a USB 3.0 port. 5 year warranty, that they seem to back. (otherwise would've been a 1 star)
Cons: Two complaints, the PNP name is awful, "Kingston DT Rubber 3.0", sounds like a contraceptive. I bought 2 and the one I use the most died within 60 days. It basically shows up as a different device, "SKYMEDI USB Drive", which is good since I disliked the name but the new device shows capacity as RAW. Even running testdisk on it couldn't recover the data. Trying to format said disk fails as well.
Other Thoughts: Kingston is letting me RMA it but shipping it is my responsibility and for the hassle and cost of shipping I'd be better off catching it on sale or buying another brand.
The numbers are difficult to read but if you have good eyesight and a magnifying glass they can be had so long as your scratches on the metal aren't too big. I'm recording both my devices serial numbers just in case I have issues in the future. They have a 5 year warranty but I'm betting most people don't bother returning it when they break.
Along with Hard Drives, USB Memory Drives are another item I'll start buying strictly based on the warranty. If they lack confidence in their equipment I'm not going to trust my data on it.

Categories > USB Flash Drives > Patriot Memory > Patriot Flex 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model PSF8GFXUSB

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 Read performance degraded to 3.5 MB/s after 6 months.
Pros: sleek and inexpensive
Cons: poor performance over time
Other Thoughts: I bought this device specifically to use with Windows ReadyBoost.

It worked as advertised for 6 months.

Now the windows winsat utility on 2 different PCs reports speeds averaging 3.5 MB/s (2.2 MB/s at the lowest).

I have 6 year old SD cards that now perform better than this drive.
