Dell M110 1280 x 800 300 ANSI Lumens LED Ultra - Mobile Projector 10000:1

Home theater worthy!
- Pros: I'm using this beauty for gaming on a two meter wide screen (~80"). Refresh rate, color gamut, contrast, brightness, this thing gets them all right. It is a really good alternative, often the *best* one on the current market.
- Cons: No audio output port! It has a pair of cheap speakers, but no way of outputting that signal (as it might come from HDMI).
- Other Thoughts: Originally I connected my X360 via HDMI, but then I was forced to use it's built-in speakers for audio. They work, but they're not good. So I'm now using a composite-to-HDMI converter to separate audio and video. Wish this thing had an audio-out port...

Acer K130 1280 x 800 300 ANSI Lumens (Standard), 240 ANSI Lumens (ECO) DLP Projector with Speaker 10000:1

almost 6 month later
- Pros: This is a followup from my earlier review. The K130 is used daily and works great. I would not consider any other projector for the bedroom.
- Cons: For the first 30 sec - 1 minute the display is a bit blurry. At first I was concerned but it apparently its a feature :-)
- Other Thoughts: You can hear the cooling fan but its reasonable and stayed the same since day one. 3D works only with120Hz. The K130 does do 120Hz but only on lower resolutions. I use the projector with a Nvidia GT640 in a Windows 8 machine and the Windows Media Player with 4 tuners, Netflix and Hulu The combo work great for me. I'm also typing this review on this setup. The resolution is good enough for easy Internet browsing.

Optoma ML500 1280 x 800 500 Lumens DLP Projector 3000:1

Almost Perfect
- Pros: This is an excellent projector, that is nearly perfect 9/10. Color, contrast, and clarity are all outstanding, motion is smooth, and the image is bright enough in the right circumstances (brighter than expected).
- Cons: The projector can be picky with HDMI, and VGA input signals if not in the right format, brigtness is low (but you should know that going in at 500lm).
Minor focus issue requiring a 10 minute warm-up time, set the focus and don't adjust it on startup, it will eventually correct itself after the optics warm.
- Other Thoughts: Yes it doesn't have audio out, that is what home theater receivers are for! For all of the above I got it on sale for $400 and would buy another at that price in a heartbeat. At 600 it is another question

EPSON EX7210 1280 x 800 2800 Lumens 3LCD Multimedia Projector 3000:1

1yr and a half, still going strong
- Pros: Bright even when set to economy, clear clean picture on all sources, long bulb life, picture is still as good as the day that I first installed it.
- Cons: The Iris that helps control contrast levels is a bit noisy when transitioning from a bright to dark scene. The Iris can be shut off in the options but I wouldn't suggest it unless you're running a grey/silver screen. That said it is tolerable once you get used to it.
- Other Thoughts: I am using this as my main home theater display. I use it with a PS3, and Dish Network both at 1080i. My signal sources are being routed through a Sony receiver with hdmi switching with no problems. it is currently being used with a 90'' white pull down display and looks good, but where it shines is on a grey screen. I have a 140" high contrast grey screen I'm in the process of building and it looks beautiful.
Overall I have been extremely happy with this projector. this is the second Epson I have owned and both were wonderful products.
The Bulb is it 746hrs in ECO mode, I haven't run it at all in normal.

Post-ownership review
- Pros: Price!
Brightness & Contrast Ratio. Small, Quiet. Decent resolution and supports 1600x1200 - Cons: No air filters!
Moving parts (fans and color wheel) seem low quality
- Other Thoughts: I am revisiting my review 2 years after purchase with my experiences.
This was a fantastic projector for the price and served me well for almost exactly 2 years, a good investment. I never had to buy a new bulb even with pretty heavy use, though the brightness was obviously diminished by the end of its tenure. This projector went with me on two cross-country moves and spent a year in a bachelor pad which was a smoking environment. It also was moved around quite a bit to different venues. The projector held up and functioned very well, except for the two following issues...
11 months after purchase, both the fan and color wheel started acting up, causing the projector to automatically shut down. Acer replaced these parts for free as it was still in warranty, and their service only took about a week total (including shipping times). after another year, the fan started acting up yet again. Since it was out of Acer warranty, I sent it to ServiceNet (I had purchased the 2 year extended plan) who refunded the purchase price with basically no-questions-asked.
Bottom line- this is a nice projector and the price is certainly right, I still rate it 4 Eggs. I would certainly recommend it both to people looking for an "entry-level" projector and to those who have owned projectors in the past but who are not looking to spend the big bucks. Unless you have owned a really nice projo in the past, you will not likely be disappointed. But I would advise against using it in dusty or smoking environments. Expect to have some issues with the moving parts (fan & color wheel) and definitely get the extended ServiceNet warranty!

InFocus IN116 1280 x 800 2700 Lumens DLP Projector 4000:1

Better than I expected
- Pros: When I saw the Infocus IN116 on special, I decided to jump on this deal to replace an aging projector. My previous Infocus was the infamous X1, reprogrammed as a SP model (home theater variant). The lumens on it wasn't very bright to begin with, so comparing this projector with the previous would be unfair. However, I'll go on to say that this projector is excellent for newcomers wanting to project movies, games and computer desktop onto a large screen. I have mine projecting onto an EliteScreens 120 inch (16:9) screen with a gain of 1.1. In my opinion, the quality is just fantastic, especially when playing 1080p video. The colours are bright and vivid, images are sharp and the noise level this unit makes is not that bad.
In short, if you want a decent low-cost projector, consider the Infocus IN116. - Cons: Initial warming up of the projector has a whirring noise that eventually goes away.
The projector seems to warm up my living room after extended use, so consider additional cooling.
- Other Thoughts: I use this projector as my main "television" display for movies, shows and gaming (XBOX 360 + PC).

ViewSonic PJD7820HD 1920 x 1080 3000 ANSI lumens DLP Projector 15000:1

No Lens Cap
- Pros: You cannot buy a better projector for the money at this price. Not only are all reviews on the Internet across the board really good for this projector, after owning it for a few weeks I have to say I am very happy with this purchase decision. This is a great unit except for the major con of no lens.
- Cons: Some things in life make you want to throw the television set through the sliding glass window.
One of those is the fact that this projector has no lens cap!!!!
Why would ViewSonic make my $700 projector with no lens cap!
My father's projector in 1966 had a lens cap. Cameras manufactured since probably the 1930s have lens caps. All video equipment and expensive optics come with lens caps since the beginning of time. My personal cameras since I was old enough to buy them have all had lens caps or the way built-in to protect the lens.
Some bureaucrat at ViewSonic must have told their optical engineers to save five cents we will make this projector with no lens cap.
I am sure the optical engineers said that is not a good idea, it is kind of asking for trouble, but they went ahead and did it anyway. This unit has no lens cap and no way to mount a lens even if you buy your own.
How do you pack it to protect the lens? Good luck.
When I opened the box and saw my beautiful projector had no lens cap, I instinctively knew this was just asking for trouble.
Let me tell you it took less than two weeks. I even went online to buy the ViewSonic carrying case thinking maybe this will protect the projector while I am traveling. No dice. ViewSonic recommends you transport and protect the projector in the original packing materials.
This is what I did on my recent trip to give a presentation in Colorado. I packed the projector inside the original packing box, including foam, inside of my luggage checked in with American airlines.
After my return trip, after opening my luggage, had a nice flyer from TSA that they had opened my bags to inspect it.
Naturally they went straight for the projector and messed the lens all up, scratches, oil, streaks and smears I could not guess what they are and they will not come off.
This is why you make a design of a $700 projector with a LENS CAP!
NO LENS CAP!
NO LENS CAP!
NO LENS CAP!
NO LENS CAP!
NO LENS CAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To the ViewSonic engineer that probably tried to explain to the bureaucrats that he works for why you make a projector with a lens cap, I am sorry they did not listen to you. I hope my review in some way is a victory for sanity.

ViewSonic PJD7820HD 1920 x 1080 3000 ANSI lumens DLP Projector 15000:1

You can't do any better for the price
- Pros: 1:1 pixel mapping (no overscan) on HDMI input when using an RGB source, like a PC for example.
Very bright picture; bright enough to project a 100" image during the day in a medium sized room with only the blinds drawn (no blackout curtains necessary). Perfect for presentations, DJing, gaming, and casual TV/movie watching. At 60-70" this thing could replace a TV.
The short throw means that at full zoom, for every 1 inch the projector is away from the wall, you get 1 in in screen size (So placing it 12 feet away gives you a 144" image)
Zero input lag (as fast as a CRT), and very fast response time. Gamers will fall in love with this projector.
Almost no 3D crosstalk, and rainbows aren't visible in 3D.
After adjustments, colors really pop, thanks to it's 6-color RGBCYM wheel. Yellows look especially good. Eat your heart out, Quattron. - Cons: Picture is too bright to be used in a dedicated, light-controlled home theater unless you want a 200" image. Contrast isn't good enough either for dedicated movie watching. It's acceptable, though, for 90% of people. I'm not complaining, though it could be a *tad* bit better.
Turning DynamicEco on puts a permanent message on the top left corner of your screen until you turn it off. Also, pressing any button on the remote or changing the input turns it off. It's as if ViewSonic doesn't want you using that feature, despite prominently advertising it. I don't get it.
3D glasses not included, and this projector requires 144Hz lenses. Thankfully they're cheap.
Contrast is somewhat reduced in 3D, and you can't change any color settings in 3D mode (except DynamicEco). A deal-breaker for some, but the settings it sticks you with look good enough to me.
Throw angle is 7% upward, meaning that in order to sit comfortably without your head getting in the way, you have to either sit behind the projector or ceiling mount it. I sit in front of it anyway, so I have to recline a bit and look upward at the screen; this isn't ideal but will have to do thanks to the limitations of my room's design.
- Other Thoughts: Contrast is acceptable, but could be better. Blacks only get dark to around level 5 or 6 (your average LCD on the other hand, can reproduce down to the 3-4 range). With that being said, whites are perfect; I can discern the brightness in each individual step all the way to 255.
I am sensitive to rainbows, but with this projector I don't really notice them unless it's a dark scene with bright objects (like the scrolling Star Wars text. Dark Knight Rises was almost impossible to watch on this thing, but Wreck-it-Ralph was fine). Rainbows completely disappear in 3D. Probably has something to do with the flickering of the glasses syncing with the color wheel or something.
You can't do 3D in 1080p unless you want to be limited to 24Hz (fine for movies since they run at 24FPS anyway, but unacceptable for PC gaming). However, this isn't a con because *no* projector can pull this off, thanks to limitations of the current HDMI standard. You're supposed to run games at 720p to get 60Hz, which makes the image really muddy and blurry, but I've been playing around with my games' settings and am able to get 60Hz @ 1000p in SimCity 5, which isn't quite 1080 but WAY clearer than 720. Other games will run that resolution too but not @ 60Hz. You have to just play around with your game's res setting until you find one that works and looks good. It varies from game-to-game, and older games will most likely need to be modified to support non-standard resolutions. Overall, the added depth makes up for the lack of resolution, partly thanks to the the nature of how 3D works, which makes an image look clearer than it should.
Out-of-the-box picture is poor, but short of calibration these settings should get you accurate enough colors to please most people: Color Mode: User (1 or 2) Reference Mode: Dynamic Movie (or Movie if you need more brightness) Brightness: 50 Contrast: 0 BrilliantColor: On Noise Reduction: 0 Gamma: 7 (3 is actually closer to the sRGB standard as far as RGB is concerned, but makes whites way too bright.) Color Temp: T2 HDMI Range: Enhanced (strangely, this setting gives you the standard sRGB palette, while "Standard" makes the colors *worse*. With most TVs & projectors the opposite is true) Red Gain: 50 Grn Gain: 47 Blu Gain: 48 Red Offset: 0 Grn Offset: -2 Blu Offset: 0
In conclusion, if you are on a budget don't hesitate for one second on this projector. It makes for a great monitor/TV replacement (you can't get an 80" TV for anywhere *close* to this price) and is ideal for gaming. The only people who will be disappointed by this are movie buffs, thanks to the just adequate contrast. Everyone else will be thrilled by how much bang they're getting for their buck. The only other projector that come close to matching this in the price range is the Acer H6510BD (which is the same projector with different firmware). All other similar ones cost twice as much. You can't do any better for the price.

Vivitek Q2 LITE-B HD 720p Up to 300 Lumens LED Pocket Projector, Black 10000:1

Handy but could be better
- Pros: Small enough to fit in a handbag, instant on AND off sliding switch, fairly bright 40" picture, light weight and auto selects the input your using. compatible with ipod, iphone, mac, pc, dvd.
- Cons: Plastic Lens, easily scratches, do not try and clean. The image goes out of focus every few minutes after it turns on then gets less frequent. The color is unsatisfactory, you can adjust the color a bit in the menu but you just cannot get the color quite right. flesh tones are off and it just makes your photos and home movies look awful, your friends will end up looking at your computer screen instead of the projection. The power adaptor which needs to be plugged in for this to work is almost the same size of the projector and the cords dangle everywhere. In order to connect to an iphone or anything, a special adaptor needs to be used and most are not included with this projector. The fan on this thing is loud instantly like a laptop fan that is clogged with dust and at max speed. the lack of a built-in battery makes this hardly worth the price.
- Other Thoughts: If your one of those people the spend time adjusting the color on your TV, this projector may not be for you. If you need a tiny projector that works on pretty much anything, this can be a life saver.
