Categories > VoIP > Cisco Small Business > Cisco Small Business SPA112 2-Port Phone Adapter

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4
Pros: Running an asterisk server at the house and this works with my old analog phone as expected.
Cons: The config/web interface is a bit in depth, so you may have to RTM.

Categories > VoIP > Obihai Technology, Inc. > Obihai OBI100 VoIP Telephone Adapter with SIP

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Excellent for DOY VoIP
Pros: * Low cost
* Very good voice quality
* Not tied to a specific VoIP provider
* Remote web management at obitalk.com
* Supports two VoIP service providers
* Supports softphones
Cons: * White plastic shows some discoloring after a year. Black or dark gray plastic would last longer.
Other Thoughts: Used the Obi100 with Google Voice for over a year with excellent results. It is very reliable and voice quality is about as good as landlines (assuming a stable Internet connection).

Due to GV discontinuing XMPP in May, I switched to Callcentric and Localphone. Callcentric has free DIDs in NY with free incoming calls. Localphone has low rates for outgoing calls on a pay per call basis. The GV DID can be forwarded to Callcentric so yo don't have to change numbers.

Having two service providers gives you the flexibility of having one for incoming calls and one for outgoing calls. You could also receive calls from both providers, although with a single phone jack you can't answer both calls simultaneously.

Many VoIP providers support the Obihai adapters without a fixed monthly fee that are very economical for low outgoing call volumes. If you make a lot of outgoing calls, a yearly plan such as Vestalink or Anveo may be justifiable.

Categories > VoIP > Cisco Small Business > Cisco Small Business SPA122 ATA with Router

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Good device with some omissions
Pros: Once the firmware is upgraded to version 1.3.3 or higher there are no issues. I have ran 2 G.711 calls concurrently with no issues other than a bit of minor lag but it did not affect call quality just the decode lag went from 120ms to 160ms.
Cons: Minor lag occurs when having 2 g.711 calls concurrently from 120ms for single call to 160ms when having 2 calls. Processor could be stronger to deal with this. Also only 32mb of ram which after device loads only 10mb remains. Would have gladly paid an extra 20 bucks for a processor in the device that is far more capable.
Other Thoughts: its better than Granstream ht702 but not by much. If fact I believe they share the same weak processor which is a DSP processor. Yes I know DSP stands for digital Sound Processor but it also a name brand of processor as well.

Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3 Works well but complex set up

Categories > VoIP > Grandstream > Grandstream GS-HT702 2-FXS port Analog Telephone Adapter

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5
Pros: Works well, supports T38 FAX protocol, supports two lines when you have two VOIP supplier accounts
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace a Linksys PAP2T interface. The PAP2T did not support T38 FAX protocol. Attempts to send FAX over voice protocols failed due to jittery packet-losing IP service provided by Comcast. T38 protocol worked fine in the lower-speed 9600-baud mode on my FAX machine. I have not tried the higher speed 14400 baud. It may work also; don't know.

Categories > VoIP > ooma > Ooma Telo Free Home Phone Service

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 very nice connection once it works
Pros: Very clear connection -- flawless performance once set up. Very good feature set. Nice to dump a separate phone bill.
Cons: Bought a refurb, that was dropping packets. Tech support at Ooma walked through every option -- cables, router, power supply, etc. Took about 2 days to determine it was the unit itself.
Ooma sent a new unit to replace, and free shipment of old unit. Now works flawlessly.
The cost savings of the refurb were diminished by the little frustration of debugging the unit.

Categories > VoIP > ooma > Ooma Telo Free Home Phone Service

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Ooma is a great product
Pros: easy installation, cheap service
Cons: none yet
Other Thoughts: will have to wait and see how the billing for monthly rates works out. I should be getting for about $5 what I used to pay more than $50

Categories > VoIP > netTALK > netTALK DUO WI-FI VoIP Gateway

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 Works fine, but outgoing volume is TOO low
Pros: The units work fine and provide a great way to receive calls from and to call phone numbers to the states, especially for traveling ex-pats.
Cons: The problem is that your (as the caller) voice will be too low for the other end to effectively hear.
Correct this as well as the recent inability to contact customer service (it did NOT use to be this way!) and it is a great product that serves a useful purpose. Otherwise, if you pan to call particular parties often, make sure they have a volume control on their phone.
