Great unit when you get one that was not mishandled before getting to you
Pros: -Overall quality UPS with expansion options to meet a variety of needs. -Especially if you add a battery expansion shelf, can get long run times in the event of an outage granted you have the cooling available to keep the hardware attached from overheating. The extra batteries are automatically recognized, though if you have a specific uptime target to hit, you may want to run the runtime calibration / overprovision a bit, especially seeing draining lead acid batteries all the way to nothing is not a good plan for longevity. -Inside the battery packs are standardized and easily available batteries along with standardized connectors for the individual batteries, so you can save yourself a great deal and just swap the individual batteries in the packs if you want (and are in a situation where you are allowed to).
Cons: The original unit shipped to me was displaying a "site wiring fault" message. At first I thought there was something wrong with my wiring, however it turned out to be the unit. I noticed some oddities with the original unit and confirmed with comparisons to the replacement unit. The original unit had its internal heat sinks both bent to one side and curved in that same direction and the USB port was noticeably bent in the same direction. The replacement unit is straight. It takes a lot of force to do something like that. Interestingly enough both the shipping box and the UPS outer shell looked alright though the foam on one side of the shipping container was a little jacked up. It was shipped via UPS. I can't say for sure it was the shipper, but it would not be the first time UPS broke something through mishandling. It seems at least UPS has it down to they don't overly damage the outer box, just bend and break internal components, but with DHL if I did ever get the box (they were notorious at least around here for not delivering at all and I always had to go round and round with them to get anything delivered) the side of the box would always be completely smashed in every time without fail, so I suppose UPS is an improvement over that. FedEx is apparently worth the extra money if you can find a seller who will do it. (The completely fine replacement unit came via FedEx.)
Other Thoughts: Under Linux you can have a node that is always up run an automated network monitoring and shutdown daemon and have both Linux and Windows machines listen for power loss events and save yourself a few hundred on a network module. However in a professional setup you may just go for the network card anyway, especially if you don't want to rely on any single node being up to tell the other nodes to shut down in the event of an extended power loss or are running a Windows only environment or if you just want to run the vendor supplied management and monitoring software.

Slight disappointment in these APC replacement batteries
Pros: Worked great for just about 18-months of use.
Cons: After 18 months of use, (only one power outage in that timeframe), these batteries need to be replaced again. Had these installed in a APC BR1300LCD.
Other Thoughts: Instead of spending the $$$ on another set of replacement batteries, going with a new unit this time. Not sure which brand, but my loyalty is wavering...
