Pros: - Fast and accurate reading on almost any surface and deformed codebar. Works wonderfully in a convenient store - Can be setup for many different situation, output customization is almost endless.
Cons: - Code has to be placed parallel under the beam, but some items are hard to put into that position. my old omni-direction scanner has a clear advantage here. - While being very versatile/customizeable , setup can be cumbersome and hard to understand for beginner users. (Got it working correctly after 2-3 hours of adjustments and online searches) -Included instructions are very basic, most infos must be download from their official website and it's a 300 pages PDF (~ 20 pages were useful in my case, but I still had to through most of those 300 pages )
Other Thoughts: I had a Omni-directional scanner before, but its motor broke. Than I got a 35$ Tao scanner, while it works alright on paper and plastic surface, but it can't read codes on cans and some deformed codes (ex: eggs, rounded packing) and codes behind plastic packaging are also hard to read. This LI2208 is my current scanner, satisfied, I'd give it a 8/10. if this broke, I'd go back to omni-directional ones for convenient store uses.

Unitech AS10-U Handheld Contact Linear Imager Scanner (1D)
Cons: ok, bought 1 of these a year ago for a new register system for my small business. Started getting flakey about a month ago, then stopped working a week ago. So, bought 2 more incase one was defective. The 1st of the 2 new ones stopped working within an hour. So, plugged in the 2nd of the new ones and it stopped working 2 hours later. Dont buy. Pay a little more for a quality one.
Other Thoughts: If you have a small business, get one that will last. The time and lost sales isnt worth the cheap price.

Pros: first one DOA, but in Newegg style - quick RMA and I ordered another one that day. Got it the next day and it worked 'out-of-the-box' no drivers needed for windows 7 pro. Out of 200 purchased, only one DOA - that is a great number.
Cons: none, and I have years of experience working with this manufactures Point Of Sale products.
Other Thoughts: Make sure you know what you need for your Point Of Sale software - there are many connection types available.

Pros: This is an awesome, rugged, durable, fast, capable scanner. What this will provide you is THE SCANNER ONLY. This purchase will NOT provide a base unit.
Cons: The picture shows a base, which is NOT included for this price!!! You may need the base, unless you are replacing a defective older unit like I have been lately. (Some of my Datalogic M8300s are over 7 years old.)
Other Thoughts: The REM Battery in the description means that this scanner comes with a "REMovable battery" which is in the base of the handle of the scanner. Again, you do NOT get the base use as pictured, just the hand scanner. The reason they indicate "REM Battery" is because some models of the M8300 have a built-in, non-user-replaceable battery. Trust me, the battery will eventually fail and Datalogic sells replacements.

Pros: Simple setup, sturdy build quality, ergonomic, long battery life
Cons: No built in keypad
Other Thoughts: I have used this scanner (two different identical scanners) at two different project sites, and it has worked flawlessly at both. It would be better if it had a keypad, but this is a simple scanner at a reasonable price. Work environment was mostly indoors.
Would recommend to others without hesitation.
