HQ-Cam 8 Channel CCTV Security Surveillance Network H.264 Standalone DVR with 1TB Hard Drive Installed
HQ-CAM - with no HDD
- Pros: I just bought recently this DVR but without the HDD straight from the HQ-cam site. Is a nice DVR mostly because I was looking for one with alarm inputs (this has 8) and outputs (this has 1) to be able to attach an external motion sensor or door contact. so far it works great, easy GUI.
- Cons: probably the only cons from my POV is that the resolutions for the tv/monitor when u attach to the VGA connector supports only 4:3 standards (no widescreen monitors supported)
- Other Thoughts: overall is a good dvr and so far no issues. I had some questions when I setup my dvr so I sent some emails to the customer service and the answer where pretty prompt, so if you have issues with the setup the CS is the plus.

So far so good
- Pros: Fairly easy to set up. Had it up and running with my existing cams in a few minutes. Running almost a year now.
- Cons: User manual obviously transferred from some other language, and very poorly at that. Nowhere does it tell you NOT TO attempt to log into cameras from any other browser than Internet Explorer. Took a couple of days of crashing and a phone call to tech support to find that out. Since then, only crashes when I accidently attempt to connect with Firefox. Had to replace the fan inside after about a month, it was making a horrible noise. Very cheap throw away fan. I put a little larger fan in, had to wiggle it down to get it in, but, it's tight, and no screws needed!!
- Other Thoughts: I'm sure there are better units out there. I got mine for under $100 with free shipping. Not sure if I would have paid $149 (at THAT time) for it though.

DOA
- Pros: Nice design
- Cons: DOA. I would give it 0 stars if Newegg had that option
- Other Thoughts: I put this device on 3 different laptops, running XP, Win7 and Linux and on all 3 laptops device was never detected, regardless of the OS. As per instructions, device was charged, you do get an orange light and that all. Device refused to turn off and device did not respond to reset as per the instructions.
Followed all troubleshooting recommendations as per the instructions. Complete dud. What is also interesting is that instructions mentioned that a CD should be a part of the package, but it wasn't. I'm going through RMA process now

Less than a year is falling apart
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: I bought the cheapest and that's exactly what I got,
utter cr*p, just go buy some IP dvr and cameras and you will never look back

Unit Setup really odd.
- Pros: I like the price and the ability to view via my android phone.
- Cons: The unit configuration is really odd, the hard drive should overwrite and keep recording but it stops. I have had to format the disk 1 time to continue the record process and I re-checked the settings and will continue to watch for problems. I have the unit set to overwrite older video after 30 days, I will keep watching this for problems.
- Other Thoughts: For the price its alright for a small business or home.

I would like to extend some assitance to you in regards to the Overwrite features you have mentioned in your review. There are two options in the configuration of our DVR unit that may be able to help resolve the issue you may be facing. 1. Enabling the overwrite feature for when the hard drive has reached its capacity. This option may be found by entering into the Main Menu -> System -> General: HDD Full. You will want to set this option Overwrite to ensure that the files will overwrite when the HDD is full. 2. Ensuring that the Auto-Delete Old Files is set to a desired set amount of days. This configuration may be made in the Main Menu -> System -> Auto Maintain: Set the Auto-Delete Old Files to never if you wish for the HDD to follow the normal Overwrite feature of the DVR. Also, you may set a specified amount of Days for the DVR to begin deleting files in order to manually maintain the HDD capacity.
