Categories > Two-Way Radios > Motorola > MOTOROLA MR350TPR 35-Mile Talkabout(R) 2-Way Radio Triple Pack with Accessories

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Good short range walkie talkie
Pros: These are the best walkie talkies we have owned. Although the only other ones were the really inexpensive ones.
Cons: Short range, they say up to 35 miles the most we have been able to get is about 1 mile. We will keep trying different situations though.
Other Thoughts: pretty well built.

Categories > Two-Way Radios > Cobra Electronics Corporation > COBRA ELECTRONICS CXT235 20-MILE FRS/GMRS 2-WAY RADIO VALUE PACK

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Not bad for the price
Pros: Small, rechargeable, comes with power supply, easy to use
Cons: Can't leave them on while charging.

Need FCC license to use them at high power.

Low power receives interference...intermittent on some, constant on others (I bought two sets, one of the four individual radios gets interference static bursts on a regular basis, the other 3 do not).

No flat surface to stand them up.

Belt clip is just plastic, no spring tensioners on it...so if you use it on your pockets it tends to fall pretty easily. Definitely meant for belt use only, anything thin and this will fall off all the time.

Have a belt pouch would make more sense with a clip this flimsy, but that's not offered for these.

Other Thoughts: Best bang for your buck if you're using these in an office environment. I only use them at low power, so I can't make any claims about high-power use. Make sure if you plan to use them for high power to get the full 20 mile range, that you plan ahead for your FCC license. Otherwise, if you interrupt police/radio/military bands by accident, they'll probably track you down and slap a hefty fine on you.

Categories > Two-Way Radios > Motorola > MOTOROLA MR355R Two-Way Radio

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Very Impressed
Pros: Power mode handles better than expected in the Arizona mountains between Phoenix & Snowflake. Used these in a caravan on that trip.
Didn't know it but they come with a change of faceplates that you can use if you want to change the camo out for a highly visible neon orange.
Cons: Hmm...
...thinking...
.... I suppose it's kind of an inconvenience that the screws that hold the faceplate on are the special 'star' kind & so small phillips head screwdrivers won't work. What's the point of that? Srsly, don't make it extra hard to change something like that out, eh?
Other Thoughts: Manual seems very thorough but the frequency chart in it is a bit confusing.
Keep in mind that the private channels are only filters for what is received. Other folks using the same channel without said privacy filters will receive transmissions sent on all private channels. So don't think you're actually making secure transmissions.
For example: Radios A through E are all communicating on channel 10 but each is using a different private channel(like a sub-channel). Radio Z is on channel 10 but not using a private channel. Radios A-E will NOT hear each other's transmissions until they change their private channel to match that of the radio using one & broadcasting. Neither will they hear Radio Z's broadcasts until they turn their private channel to 0 (or off). Radio Z on the other hand, being in range, will hear all broadcasts by radios A-E

Categories > Two-Way Radios > Cobra Electronics Corporation > Cobra HG A1000 Magnet Mount Antenna: 21 Inches

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 OK antenna for short-range use
Pros: This antenna is inexpensive and a snap to install. It also works OK for distances under, say, a mile.
Cons: In order to perform optimally, a CB radio must be a minimum of 42 inches. However, if you're looking to set up a simple communication system between a couple autos for, say, a road trip, this antenna will work fine. Just don't allow the cars to get more a mile apart or you'll lose signal.

Categories > Two-Way Radios > Midland > MIDLAND 1001LWX Walky-Talky

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Excellent radio, excellent value
Pros: This radio has features few radios have at this price point. This radio has a noise limiter, which reduces certain environmental noises, such as spark plug and fan noise. An RF gain control is included which will reduce receiver sensitivity in high noise/interference areas. The weather radio/scan is effective. The hysterisis type squelch will ignore short noise bursts and allow you te hear another station talking even if they chop out, which is common for people who have their radios butchered to turn down the carrier. This can be tricky for people not used to this type of squelch control. It has an electret type microphone, which I prefer for its better sound quality and sensitivty. The radio powers on with channel 19 selected which is great. radios that power on to channel 9 are annoying. It also does not include a useless channel 9 button.. another plus. Transmit and receive audio is excellent, perfect for my needs. Transmit and receive ranges are right where they are expected for a legal, FCC approved CB radio. The modern style is a welcome breath of fresh air.
Cons: None Found
Other Thoughts: This radio has a common 4 pin mic connector. It is unknown if the common "Cobra" style microphones will work. The higher quality electret elements are used in the stoc mic, so it is unknown if the more common dynamic mikes will work. At any rate, the stock microphone is more then sufficient for this radio. Many review sites indicate issues with weather reception. Used correctly, there are no issues. All in all a great radio. This is a good piece of communications equipment that will serve any person well who understands what this radio is designed for.

Categories > Two-Way Radios > Cobra Electronics Corporation > Cobra CX112 Walkie Talkie 16 Mile Radio

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 Eats batteries
Pros: Nice small size. No noise at our location.
Cons: Eats batteries. Thought the problem was my rechargables but it eats fast through alkalines too. When it beeps about low battery then refuses to work the battery checker still shows the battery as green not yellow. This is the third set of walkie talkies we've used over the years and the fastest set eating batteries.
Other Thoughts: Confused about license to operate it. The last set I used Channel 3 because it did not need a license. This set says channel 3 needs a license channel 11 does not, opposite. Did it change? or is one wrong?
We're in the country on 40 acres with hills. We don't get anyone else using our channel or any noise.
