College Grad Gains Recognition Thanks to Newegg’s First Video Contest

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – Will Urbina, a recent graduate of California State University at Northridge, has the opportunity to showcase his talent before hundreds of thousands of television viewers, thanks to popular online retailer Newegg. Urbina is the grand-prize winner of newegg.com’s first-ever video competition. Urbina will see his award-winning ad, “Why I Choose Newegg,” broadcast on local cable starting this Friday, July 25. He also won a 37” Westinghouse LCD HDTV.
Bernard Luthi, vice president of merchandising, Newegg, said the contest was such a success that the company is considering airing several other top entries in addition. “Our customers love Newegg’s extensive product selection, fast shipping, and great customer service,” he said. “We were excited to see their enthusiasm and learn about Newegg through their eyes. Giving their talents an opportunity to shine is just one way of saying thank you for supporting us through the years.”
Urbina, who grew up in Novato, California, says he is excited about the exposure the ad will garner.
“My college major was art and communication, with a focus on film,” said Urbina. “I had been a Newegg customer for a while and saw the video contest as a great opportunity to have some fun and put my skills to good use. I am thrilled that Newegg staged this competition. As a recent college grad just starting his career, I am confident that being the grand-prize winner is a great asset to landing my dream job.”
The ad, which features Urbina creating custom-built computers, took about two days to shoot. Online shopping paid off for him as he only discovered the contest a few days before the deadline. Urbina has been a Newegg customer for four years.
