CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif – For everyone who thought their wild and carefree days of road-tripping across the country were a thing of the past – there’s good news. This summer, visitors to Newegg.com, the second-largest online-only retailer in the United States, will be able to take a “virtual road trip” with 22-year-old college student Kenny Derryberry – Grand Prize winner of a sporty new car in the company’s “Canon Summer Cruisin’ Sweeps” promotion – as he cruises from his home in Benicia, CA all the way back to school in Chester, NH – blogging and posting photos and videos along the way! In addition to providing visitors with a sneak-peak into Kenny’s road trip back to school, Newegg.com is also planning to provide site visitors with a variety of fun and educational activities along the way – plus some exciting surprise giveaways.
Newegg.com Visitors Can Hit the Open Road with Kenny Derryberry!
Kenny Derryberry learned earlier this month that he was the Grand Prize Winner of Newegg.com’s Canon Summer Crusin’ Sweeps. In addition to a free Canon EOS Rebel T1i Digital Camera, this entitled him to choose from three brand new sporty high-performance automobiles, including a Volkswagen GTI, a Mazda RX-8 or a BMW 128. Kenny chose the Volkswagen GTI. With his college fall semester soon to begin he had been worried about driving his old beat-up car cross-country. Instead, he’s now looking forward to cruising back in style in his new GTI. He plans on leaving July 31st – and he’s even invited a couple of his best friends to join him. Kenny will be keeping in touch with Newegg.com visitors and blogging from some of America’s most impressive (and sometimes offbeat) places – everything from the majestic Grand Canyon to an eerie western ghost town, with stops at Niagara Falls and New York City, plus a few surprise visits as well.
“I’m still sort of in shock from learning that I was the Grand Prize Winner,” says Kenny. “I have to admit I’ve never been this excited to go back to school! I really can’t wait to get behind the wheel and start seeing all the sights from my GTI and of course sharing what I experience with Newegg.com visitors.”
Newegg’s Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising Bernard Luthi noted: “Our Canon Summer Cruisin’ Sweeps was a very popular promotion and we were delighted to announce Kenny as our winner earlier this month. When he told us he’d be driving the car cross country back to school we saw a great opportunity to reward our loyal customers – many of whom had expressed great enthusiasm for this contest – with a fun and educational summer treat. They will be able to literally hit the open road across America with Kenny, check his daily travel updates, read his blog, and even watch videos and view pictures, all at Newegg.com!”
