When I first got the hard drives and tried to get them to work, well, at best, my computers recognized them. They just didn't let me access them. I contacted Oyen with my problem, and they informed me that I needed to have them initialized and formatted first. I found the directions among the FAQs and followed them, and now the hard drives work great.

I really had to use my Windows 7 computer for both of the hard drives because formatting one hard drive on my Windows Vista computer threatened to take at least two days, while formatting on the Windows 7 computer took only a few seconds. But I did a little testing, and initializing an Oyen 8TB external hard drive requires a little more effort on a Vista computer than on a 7. Whereas Windows 7 will request initializing automatically, Windows Vista won't do that. When you get to the Disk Management window, you'll have to right-click on the square on the left, where it reads "uninitialized" before you get that option. After that, you can choose the options you need, and it should be accepted.

In short, it'll take a little work on your part to get this hard drive to work. But, after that, it works great.

If I have one complaint about the 8TB HDDs, its that Oyen seems to have a different definition of "portable" than that of Toshiba. Toshiba's 2TB portable drives don't need to be plugged in to a power outlet. Oyen's 8TB portable drives do.

    Products sold by Oyen Digital are covered by a Standard Return Policy. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, the item may be returned within 30 days of the original invoice date. All returns require an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number obtained by contacting our RMA department. All original equipment, manuals, cables, and packaging must be returned in order to process your RMA. Physically damaged items cannot be returned. The customer agrees to pay all shipping charges for the returned item. A replacement or refund will be issued after we receive the item. The original shipping and handling charge is non-refundable for non-defective items that are returned. A ten percent (10%) restocking fee will apply to non-defective products that are returned.

Return Instruction
    1. Log onto your account and find your order in order history, click on 'Request RMA from Seller' Button next to the order information.
    2. On 'Compose Message Page', verify the order number you want to request return on the top of the page, choose 'RMA Inquiry' from the drop down menu, provide the item# (you can find on your order invoice e-mail) and the reason you want to return, and indicate you want to return for replacement or refund before click 'send message' button.
    3. Once our Customer Service Representatives receive your inquiry, it will take us 24 - 48 hours to respond to your inquiry.
    4. Once our Customer Service has verified your order information and approved for you to send the merchandise back to us, you will be provided with Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number for your return through e-mail. The e-mail contains RMA number, RMA details and important return shipping instruction. Read the instruction carefully before you ship your return merchandise back to us.
    5. We strongly recommend you return your item in the same or similar packaging as they were delivered to you with all the original parts, accessories and menu/documentation included (any missing parts or accessories may result your return being rejected or your refund/replacement being delayed). Re-using the package your item came in is acceptable, as long as the packaging is in good condition and all previous addresses, tracking information and labels are removed.
