Introduction

The instruction manual that comes with your printer will help you understand the basics of how to use your device. However, there are some basic how-to’s that you should be familiar with and these may not be included in the actual user manual that comes with your printer. The following information will provide you with some basic “how-to” information so that you will be able to get the most from your printer.

How to Properly Care for Your Printer

While many of today’s printers are extremely affordable, you still want to care for your investment properly. First and foremost, don’t plug your printer directly into the wall. Make sure you use a surge protector so that your device is protected in case of a power surge. Be sure to invest in a surge protector that offers insurance and will replace your equipment if it becomes damaged due to a power surge while plugged into the surge protector.

Moreover, be sure to keep all liquids away from your printer. Liquids that are spilled can get inside of the printer and harm its operating mechanisms and the print nozzles.

In addition, make sure you only use manufacturer-approved ink and/or toner refills. Using the cheaper refills or refill kits can actually cause damage to your printer.

How to Clean a Printer

Never put liquids, such as water and/or spray cleaners, anywhere near your printer. If you feel that your printer needs to be cleaned, get a can of spray air. Never spray any print nozzles directly. Spray off the areas of the printer that may have collected dust and debris using the compressed air as directed on the can.

How to Connect Your Printer to the Wi-Fi Network

Each printer is different when it comes to connecting to a Wi-Fi network. Usually there will be a settings option that will ask for your security key. This security key can normally be found on your Internet router or modem (if your modem doubles as a router). Refer to your printer’s user manual to determine exactly how to access the settings area in which you can set up your printer’s Wi-Fi connection.

How to Save Money with Your Printer

Many consumers soon discover that the purchase price of the printer is the least expensive part of owning one. The operating expenses, over the years, will far outweigh the purchase price. Some ways in which you can save money during the operation of your printer is to print rough drafts on lighter, cheaper paper and save your higher-grade paper for final documents and other important copies. You can also save money by printing on both sides of the paper rather than using just one side whenever possible.

How to Print from Your iPhone

In today’s day and age people live and breathe by their smart phones – many of which are iPhones. How can you print documents and images directly from your iPhone without having to relocate the files from your phone to your computer’s hard drive?

The first thing you need to do is download a print app from the App Store onto your iPhone. There are a number of print apps available and a large number of printer manufacturers have released free apps that allow you to print from their Wi-Fi-enabled printers. Once the app is downloaded to your phone, all you need to do is ensure that your printer and your iPhone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and use the app to print directly from your iPhone.

There are also third-party apps that support a wider range of printers. While you may have to pay for these apps, they may make printing from your iPhone an option if there is not a free app available from the manufacturer of your specific printer.
