Introduction

Headphones usually come with instruction manuals that are very basic in nature, if they come with one at all. Most people view headphones as a plug-and-go purchase. The following information will help you understand the basics of how to use your headphones and how to get the most from your device.

How to Use More than One Set of Headphones with Your Device

Sometimes you want to enjoy music with a few friends or family members without disrupting the entire household. Oftentimes consumers want to know if there is a way to use more than one set of headphones with a device. Actually there is. Audio splitters will allow you and your friends to listen to the same device with multiple headphones connected to the device through the splitter rather than having to disrupt the rest of the house with the volume of your music.

How to Clean Your Earbuds

Earbuds are placed inside of your ear while listening to music, so it goes without saying that they will need to be cleaned from time to time. Clean your earbuds often, preferably after each use or at the end of each day if you use them throughout the day. To clean your earbuds, run slightly damp cotton ball around the buds and take a slightly damp Q-tip to clean the inside of the adapters. Make sure you allow the earbuds and adapters to air dry for at least an hour prior to using them again.

How to Break In Your Headphones

Sometimes you won’t get optimal quality from your headphones or earbuds until they have been “broken in” properly. Some say that it takes up to 30 hours to properly break in a set of headphones. Unless you want to listen to your music for 30 hours before the headphones are broken in, play continuous music through your computer with your headphones connected to the computer to allow them to break in while they aren’t in use.

How to Make Sure Your Headphones Last

If you want to make sure your headphones last, you need to keep them safe while they are not in use. Countless numbers of quality headphones have been lost to chewing dogs, broken cords, curious children and other accidents. Make sure you keep your headphones in a safe place when they aren’t in use. If your headphones came with a case, keep them in the case while they are not in use. If they did not come with a case, look into purchasing a case made for your headphones or another type of storage case to keep your headphones safely stowed away when you aren’t using them. Also, as tempting as it may be, do not wind your earbuds around your MP3 player, iPod or other portable music device. In the long run it can damage the cord.

How to Make Your Headphones Work with a Device with an Incompatible Jack

If your headphones do not have a connector that fits into the jack of the device you want to use them on, then invest in an adapter and you will be able to use your headphones with multiple devices. There are many adapters on the market that will allow you to use your headphones with an “incompatible” device simply by plugging your headphones into the adapter and then plugging the adapter itself into the jack.
