The Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB Hard Drive uses less power and supports quieter, cooler-running desktop PCs. Its breakthrough 32 MB cache makes this hard drive suitable for high-performance home and business computing, as it can handle high-end data-intensive and multimedia applications.
This hard drive incorporates WD’s GreenPower technology, which yields lower operating temperatures and low acoustics, best for ultra-quiet PCs and external drives use. The IntelliPower delivers a fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms; IntelliSeek Calculates optimum seek speeds; and IntelliPark automatically unloads the heads during idle. All the features help the drive to operation in lower power consumption and reduced noise environment.
GreenPower Technology With GreenPower technology, the Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS yields lower operating temperatures for increased reliability and low acoustics for ultra-quiet PCs and external drives.
Reduced Power Consumption Combined with WD's IntelliSeek, IntelliPark, and IntelliPower technologies, the Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS has reduced power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to standard desktop drives
SATA 3.0 Gb/s Interface The Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS features the SATA II interface supporting up to 3.0 Gb/s data transfer rates, Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and hot-pluggable point-to-point connections for optimum performance, efficiency, convenience and flexibility.
Perpendicular Magnetic Recording Perpendicular Magnetic recording technology enables industry-leading capacity in existing standard form factors and improves performance by increasing data density while reducing moving parts for enhanced reliability.
Pros: I've never in my life had such a quiet hard drive. In addition, it has a 32MB cache which is good for a low-power drive.
If you're looking for performance go with the Caviar Black for a bit more money. If you want cheap or quiet storage and performance isn't your main concern I would definitely recommend this drive!
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I put two 1TB greens in a mirror on an ICH8R and I couldn't be happier.
I've been dissapointed with Seagate for a couple of years now, and they were once the only brand I would buy. Seagate is still my drive of choice for SCSI/SAS, however in the SATA / desktop world I avoid seagate like the plague. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the purchase of Maxtor, but their quality of late has really sufferred.
The last 4 drives I bought were 7200.10's @ 320GB and they're LOUD and have a very obnoxious and seemingly random click (that sounds more like the head slamming the side of the drive than a seek)
Go western digital. You won't be dissapointed.

1TB Green vs. Black Models' Power Specs
Pros: WD 1TB BLACK Edition model WD1001FALS ------ WD 1TB GREEN Edition model WD10EADS ------
Here are the power requirements as listed by WD at their own web site: ----- Black Read/Write = 8.4 Watts; Green Read/Write = 5.4 Watts ----- ----- Black Idle Power = 7.8 Watts (wow ! ) ----- Green Idle Power = 2.8W ----- ----- Black Standby Power = 1.0 Watt ----- Green Standby Power = 0.4 Watt ----- ----- Black Sleep Power = 1.0 Watt ----- Green Sleep Power = 0.4 Watt
Cons: Power requirement do not directly reflect sustained data transfer speeds. However, it's roughly estimated that the Green Edition has about 90% of the overall speed of the Black Edition model.
Other Thoughts: DOA failures, as well a "Infant Death" (early-on) failures plague every model from every manufacturer. There are only 4 significant manufacturers of HDDs left in the world: Hitachi, Samsung, Western Digital and Seagate (listed in no particular order). All 4 have been cutting manufacturing costs in part by eliminating thorough testing of their products before they leave their factories. All computer electronics component manufacturers have done the same: motherboards, RAM, etc. The lone exceptions are CPUs from AMD and Intel - they are 99.99999999% reliable. Everything else is like getting a "pig in a poke".

Excellent
Pros: Read reviews at places like Tom's Hardware. Almost as fast as the non-green drives, but very energy efficient. Perfect for a HTPC, which is where I put mine.
Avoid the WD10DEACS, which is the previous edition of this drive, which happens to have much worse performance.
Cons: Just remember it is an OEM drive, so scrape up your own SATA cable and screws. Not a con, just a reminder.
Other Thoughts: Solid drive, and Newegg is awesome as always.
