1 out of 5 eggsGoing out for 3rd time. (re-re-review)

Pros: Three year warranty. Used it twice and only paid $50 each time. Monitor is huge.

Cons: Failure rate. This is the third failure. Price.

Other Thoughts: I mean, what am I going to do with a twelve-hundred-dollar monitor other than go ahead and pay the fee and ship it off and get it fixed? Now that it's failed for the third time, and it's out of warranty, I'm at a point where I either get something ALMOST as large (27") new for around the same cost that I'd pay for diagnostics and repairs, or risk the repair and have it go out again in another 1 or 2 years.

By contrast, I have a 22" acer monitor I bought back in 2006 that has taken the beating I would never dream of putting the syncmaster through and it still works perfectly.

I regret this purchase at the price I paid in 2008. I should have known better. I could have gotten three monitors and a new video video card for less.

2 out of 5 eggs5 years. 2 warranty repairs. (re-review)

Pros: It's huge. Luckily Samsung's manufacturer warranty covered me twice.

Cons: Unfortunately, I've had to send this monitor in for repair by Samsung twice. I believe the first warranty repair was exactly one year after I bought it, and the next was maybe one to two years after that.

Other Thoughts: I really like my huge monitor, but I know this thing will go out again, and probably soon due to its track record. I've been fortunate that all I've had to pay both times was shipping ($60) which is a fraction of the cost I originally paid for this monitor. I don't think I realized how much cheaper 27" monitors are than 30" monitors. For the same cost, I could have bought FOUR 27" monitors.

I have a 22" monitor two years older than this which still works fine. Lesson learned: get either a slightly smaller monitor next time, or a medium to small one and a 40" television monitor as a second screen.

1 out of 5 eggsUltimately very disappointing

Pros: Great picture; high resolution

Cons: Failed for the 3rd time in less than five years. Last two failures each resulted in a several hundred-dollar repair bill -- totally unacceptable for a high-end monitor.

Other Thoughts: Leaving feedback for anyone hoping to buy one used. I will not buy another high-end Samsung device.

1 out of 5 eggsDied twice

Pros: It was a great monitor for the price and size. refresh rate ok.

Cons: I always had problems with this monitor. From the beginning I'd have to blow a fan on the back of it so it wouldn't cycle off due to overheating. 2 years into ownership the classic failed controller board died ( bad soldering ) but still under warranty. I got a re-furbished replacement monitor in a couple of weeks. Replacement had blemishes on the screen. 1 month after warranty expired it died again, same problem. This time the internet is rife with people having the same problem. I contacted Samsung to ask if they would cover the replacement since almost every 305T that has been used consistently dies after 2-3 years. I have other monitors that I bought 7 years ago and still going strong. They did not reply. You'd hope that with a systemic problem ( a la ibook or ipod ) that the manufacturer would see about fixing it. I went with NEC this go around and am now looking to buy replacement boards on bay-e for $200. The sad part is that I know these boards will die soon as wel

Other Thoughts: don't buy new or used.

If a Samsung rep reads this, please post a direct contact and number where I can be reached. I'd be happy to update my reviews and say at least you guys followed through with customer service if you send me a new controller board.

2 out of 5 eggsDied Twice

Pros: Big Monitor, Cheap for the size and brand name quality

Cons: First monitor died on me about a year into ownership. It always overheated and in the summer if I didn't put a fan behind it, it would black out until it cooled down. Finally it died.

Samsung replaced it with refurbished model but with blemishes on the screen. This one died yesterday on 3/11/2012. Same video banding lines and flickering that everyone else has when this puppy dies.

So this monitor only lasted me three and a half years. I have some Viewsonics that have been going strong for 7 with no problems.

I recently bought some NEC's since I needed better color. I was aghast at the poor color consistency of the 305t after calibrating my NECs. The 305 has big yellow banding coming from the top left corner down to the bottom right where it fades to a colder blue.

I don't think I'll be buying another samsung again unless they pull a customer service rabbit out of their hat.

3 out of 5 eggsLarge Display

Pros: When it functions correctly it provides a large, wide view of images and print second to none! My first unit had some dead pixels and Samsung was great in shipping another unit; the second unti after 18 montha developed the same problem, but no third unit is forthcoming!!!!

Cons: For $1200 it ought to work more than 4 years in my opinion. There are comparable units on tghe mkt to day that sell for considerably less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic quality, good thing Samsung has a great repair policy

Pros: Excellent quality. Very stable color. I use it with Photoshop to work on images. Once calibrated, it stays put! Bright, sharp image.

Cons: Just a bit over 3 years owning it (out of warranty for two months), the backlighting failed (one side of the screen went very dark). This is the first LCD monitor I have owned that lost its backlight.

Other Thoughts: Fortunately Samsung has an excellent post-warranty policy. I called their 800 number, gave them the serial number and the purchase date. For a $150 charge to my credit card, they provided prepaid shipping to a service center and guaranteed that it would either be fixed or replaced at no further cost to me.

It's too bad the backlight failed, but Samsung's reasonable repair policy took most of the sting out of the problem.

1 out of 5 eggsLemon alert

Pros: Huge. Very nice quality. The built-in USB hub is a nice plus. 2560 x 1600 is INCREDIBLE.

Cons: Monitor has died TWICE. First time was after only 1 year of use. Fortunately this was within the 18 mo. warranty. It just died again yesterday with the exact same symptoms. The screen flickers rapidly with any video source, and the top half shows a slightly different distorted image than the bottom giving the impression that each half is having the same issue but separately.

Other Thoughts: A monitor should not go out that quickly, and if repaired, should not go out with the same symptoms exactly one year after being repaired. I would guess that this particular model uses substandard parts. I've got flatscreen monitors from 8 years ago that still work. I'm going to price a repair, and if it's just not worth it, I may just use my 8 year old 22." Games run much smoother when I'm not at 2560 x 1600 resolution, anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsfail

Pros: cost, absolutely amazing color and brightness

Cons: after almost exactly 1 year, the monitor died. thankfully, it has a 3 year warranty from samsung... however, it really doesnt help. they are apparently no longer making this model, and have neglected to keep parts for warranty issues... so im being refunded by samsung in 12 weeks. thats 12 weeks without a monitor... and without cash in hand to purchase another. being my primary monitor, this is killing me. im currently trying to work off an old 24" at 1920x1200, and its almost claustrophobic. this will be my last samsung display.

Other Thoughts: when you jump into a 30" display, you are really leaving yourself open without a safety net. there are no local retailers to purchase from... there are no local repair places... so if/when it breaks, you are up a creek. i think this time around, i am going to fork over the extra cash and get an apple cinema display. at least if it breaks, i can take it into any of the local apple retail locations and have it fixed or replaced.
