The Seagate Momentus ST980815A 80GB notebook hard drive uses perpendicular recording technology for maximum capacity, reliability and performance in demanding operating environments. Perpendicular recording technology increases capacity and reliability and reduces the potential for thermal decay of data.

The ATA-100 interface ensures compatibility with a wide range of notebooks. An 8MB cache buffer and a 5400RPM supply fast transfer speeds with a minimum of bottlenecks.

The whisper quiet acoustics and low power consumption make this drive a prime choice for external drive enclosures, tablet PCs in addition to notebooks and non mission critical blade servers.

Pros: Replaced a clunky old 40GB Toshiba HDD with this jewel in a Dell Inspiron 8200. Man, what a performance increase and the Seagate is extremely quiet!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Absolutely the best hard drive on the market! I did my product research for three months prior to ordering this item from Newegg. I've always been very pleased with Newegg's quick delivery and service...can't be beat!

4 gigs to 80

Pros: Installed it in an old Dell Latitude CPx PII, after up grading the BIOS. I used Acronis to transfer my 4 gig HD, and after playing around with the BIOS settings, and using Partition Magic to set the size I got it working. I love it!

Cons: "New" technology. Really fast though.

Other Thoughts: At first I was going to go with a 40 gig to be safe, but thought I'd try the 80, and am glad I did.

Great replacement drive for HP dv1000

Pros: Plug and play replacement for the HP laptop that the boss uses. Much faster than the old stock drive and it gives us a new lease on the laptop's life. Nice and quiet as well.

Cons: Other than size limitation of 80gb there's none that I can think of. This laptop is used for light duty e-mail crunching and some level of picture storage so the 80gb will be ok.

Other Thoughts: Originally ordered the wrong drive (don't make assumptions, look at the old one first) but with the $19.00 next day shipping it was still a good deal. We had it in about 10 minutes after we opened the box and had formatting under way. Looking at the performance of this versus the stock drive we will be buying another one to replace a companion latop's hd as an upgrade as well as a preventative maint. step.

I don't see how you can go wrong with this drive and you don't need any geeks to help you install it.

Same problem twice now

Pros: None.

Cons: I'm about to do the 2nd RMA on this drive. Bad LBAs--SeaTools says it repairs them, but then if I do another long test they show up as bad again. Rediculous.

Other Thoughts: I've had it with Seagate. I'm done, fed up.

nice, quiet drive

Pros: Almost silent drive, much faster then the old IBM tragedy star it replaced. I'm using it on my old Dell Latitude C610 dual boot with Window ME and Win 2K and it works flawlessly, like a Seagate should.

Cons: I don't know why I loaded Windows ME on this drive; I guess that I'm a glutton for punishment.

Other Thoughts: I am happy that seagate still makes a drive that fits my older laptop. It added a few more years of life to an old friend.
