1 out of 5 eggsFails all SMART Tests in Less Than a Year

Pros: Purchased 2, No Issues with One
Second Worked Fine Until Failure 5 Months After Purchase

Cons: Randomly started to stall on reads and writes 5 months after purchase; now fails all SMART tests abruptly. RMA to Seagate under warranty will likely cost more in time and money to ship the thing back than it is worth. Pulled drive out of case (voiding warranty) for data recovery after failure, was able to recover about 80% of the drive.

Other Thoughts: Keep backups of your whatever you store on these drives!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Plugged it in a year ago and have had no issues. I do not use the Seagate software but perform backups with ViceVersa. It works well and is also extremely fast.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I will need a 6 TB one soon....

3 out of 5 eggsVertical Externals suck

Pros: Ran fast

Cons: one fall and it's all over.

Other Thoughts: Ran this as my primary media drive (Music, Pictures, Videos) since I bought it here last april, well last month my Father in Law and his sons where working on an add-on to my house while I was at work, when I came home the drive was on it's side. I reconnected everything and plugged it in and it recognized and behaved about all of about an hour before things started going wonky, I listened to it and got the click of death. Windows still recognizes it and sees the data, but any attempt to access or move it results in lockups.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: This drive is surprisingly quite compared to my 2 fantom drives. I was skeptical about this drive, but it seems to be pulling about 114 Mb/s write and read. I would definitely buy another.

Cons: I haven't seen any cons with this drive in about a year.

Other Thoughts: Good Drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Storage Drive

Pros: I have owned this drive since the first of the year and it has performed excellent. Write speeds are fast at 80-110mb/s on usb 3. The included dashboard software is great for managing the drives power state so they aren't spinning constantly. I hope this prolongs their useful life.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsI love these things.

Pros: Dependable, fast and lot of disk space. The Seagate dashboard is the easiest backup program I've ever used. Set it and forget it. I used it for my work laptop and was able to recover all my data when the brand new work laptop have drive crapped out on me.

Cons: Not free. Would love to see a 10 TB for this price.

5 out of 5 eggs5 Bought 5 Worked

Pros: Alright Folks, Here is the deal. I ordered 5 of these puppies and have not had a problem. I loaded them into a Rosewill RSV-S5 5-Bay RAID unit. I have to say, I bought the Rosewill RAID unit back in 2010. I know, I could not believe that the drives recognized! I mean 4TB drives...WOW. I created a spanned partition to 20TB (18.1 for all you techies). Over three days, I moved 16TB of data with no issues. The transfer speed started off around 105MB per second and dropped to around 95MB... 16 hours later. Yep, 16 hours later (for each 6TB transfer). These drives just kept on receiving my data from old 6TB partitions. I have more faith in Seagate. I was a little concerned because I bought 10 3TB Seagate drives back in late 2012 and early 2013; two of them were DOA. However, I have used Seagate drives since the 1.5TB's came out, and have not have had a problem with any of them (except the DOA's). They are very robust.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I think buying any hard drive in an external case helps with lowering DOA's. Please be cautioned that once you open the external case, you might void a warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking as stated

Pros: I am using this HDD as a storage device, it basically works as stated. I didn't run any transfer speed tests on it or anything of that nature. Basically if you want a device that has a lot of storage space this will get the job done.

Cons: No real downside so far, it did take a while to transfer all the data but that was like 3 TB of info which is why I still gave the review 5 eggs.

5 out of 5 eggsNICE EXTERNAL

Pros: I have a Seagate USB 3.0 1TB, 3TB, 4TB & a 2nd 4TB external drive due to arrive shortly. I have been impressed by their transfer speeds in both directions. Using TeraCopy to copy & move files to & from these drives using USB 3.0 ports, I have found that the transfer speeds are very close to the speed of my newer internal drives, and at least 10% faster than the oldest of my internal drives.
They are much faster & easier to use than another brand external USB 3.0 drive I have.
They are all easy plug & play. My oldest drive is almost a year old. None have given me any problems so far.
My computer is a multi-boot setup; XP, Win7 & Win8. These drives work great with all 3 operating systems.

Cons: Possibly the backup software

Other Thoughts: The backup software that came with my 1TB drive was very basic & limited; although Seagate says there is a better version for download free from their site. I have not tried the “better” version or the versions on the later drives because I do not want multiple backup formats. All of my compressed backups use a 3rd party paid backup product.
