5 out of 5 eggsMy thoughts on WD live

Pros: This will do just about anything you would want out of a set top box whether that be viewing with local storage or streaming via a network or watching online videos through Netflix or your preferred streaming

Cons: My only con with this would be navigating through the menus can be a slow process but that's a small thing for something this great.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Works with every file system (mkv, avi, mp4, etc) I've thrown at it. I use Tversity and have used Plex and Kodi, they all work though once had to work out DTS filters. A 16Gb file gave me some grief but worked it out.
Bonus use is that it has a USB that can connect to a hard drive so you can take it with you to the cabin where there is no cable.
All the apps work fine though I mostly use it for streaming.

Cons: Controls aren't as fluid as an HTPC or Raspberry PI but it's simple and networks well.

1 out of 5 eggsJust buy the Raspberry Pi, Roku, Chromecast or Fire

Pros: Out of the box and after numerous device resets, the product works GREAT! Network range and speeds are great (out of the box) Connected to my Active Directory domain and streamed every file I played on it (out of the box or after NUMEROUS factory resets) The remote is really good...

Cons: Only works if right out of the box or after a Factory Device Reset. The applications it comes with are next to useless and seem to have been created by a young Pakistani gaming programmer. Seemed like the programing language for this was either JAVA or a REALLY old flavor of Linux

Other Thoughts: A lot of frustration using this. I setup two different Raspberry Pi's and didn't bother to replace this <expletive>, but I can no longer take it anymore

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Gave this to my mother in law. I exchange sticks with her so she can have peace of mind without commercials.
Nice remote, not super-duper but does not feel cheap.
Plays all the content I have given her so far with different codecs and such. No jittering or framedrops noted with high-speed 1080p scenes.

Cons: Unit does get hot/warm.
Not taking an egg off for that as I do not see that as a problem, maybe in confined spaces it might be.

Other Thoughts: Did not test any features such as Youtube and Netflix.
Updated the firmware before giving it to her though, just in case.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Very Reliable it will play for many hours looped.
Great Price

Cons: Can be a little quirky after a few weeks of continuous play but restarting the unit usually fixes it right up. if not reformatting and copying back the USB drives contents will work.

Also it can overheat if you stack them on top of other players. or other devices.

Zoom setting does not stay when repeating.

Other Thoughts: I am sure there are lots of other Pros but my use has been very specific (for digital signage)

3 out of 5 eggsReplaced with a Roku 2

Pros: Plays every file format, including ISO, built in ethernet and WiFi.

Cons: Forgets what file server it is connecting to often. This made it too difficult for my wife and kids to use. When paired with a MyBookLive (which just died), it works good with a Windows file share (until it reboots). However when using the MyBookLive's Twonky server, it cannot support ISO files. This does not have an Amzon player for streaming. Replaced it with a cheaper Roku 2 which is more functional, easier to use, and more reliable.

3 out of 5 eggsNeeds Improvement

Pros: Lots of connection options (local USB, wifi, ethernet); lots of streaming apps (netflix, hulu, etc); simple connections to streaming server (Plex, Twonky, etc); plays literally every format of video file I can find.

Cons: Slow menu system with lots of lag and waiting. Everything works fine, functionally, I just can't be in a hurry when I want to find something to watch.

Other Thoughts: Yes, I have the latest firmware installed. I feel like I'm using AOL sometimes. When I hit a button, it takes anywhere from 3-10 seconds to execute it. When I'm used to xbox, or even my Wii, they can click through faster than that!

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing Rocks!

Pros: It works amazing. Luckily I am very tech savvy and have played around with the different firmwares, but it plays my 1080p AVI files I throw at it flawlessly from just a network shared folder. My family watches Netflix and listens to Pandora on it routinely without any issues. If you are having issues, try a different firmware, and try using it wired vs. wireless as a test. It is possible your wireless network/router has issues. Try 2.4Ghz if you have a problem with the 5Ghz band. 5Ghz has a much smaller range than 2.4Ghz.

Cons: I did not find it sooner.

Other Thoughts: Buy it and read up on it on the web and do some research, it is well worth it. Many features and apps I don't even care to use.

4 out of 5 eggsWD TV Live

Pros: Plays many video formats

Cons: Quite Finicky

Other Thoughts: The box does everything that I need it to do. If you dont have patience this is not for you.
