5 out of 5 eggsI like Suunto

Pros: Great watch, I like the fact that it is dark - it has a indigo style lighting so no worries on seeing the time. Compass has to be reset before critical use as it will veer off after 3 months.
They call these watches ABC watches: Altimeter/Barometer/Compass

Cons: The back strap loop part will crack and break after a year +/- but you can use a black zip tie and it does the same thing.
Good luck finding someone to pressurize your battery replacement because not many people have heard of Suunto and thus they do not have a certification for pressurizing the watch after battery replacement. However I do have it installed by a professional but they will not insure the work from them.

Other Thoughts: Compass has to be reset before critical use as it will veer off after 3 months. The temperature will take into account your body heat so it is best to take it off if you want an accurate reading. The altimeter worked like a charm in a helicopter anyway. The sun-up/sun-down readings are spot on, this will depend on you putting in the right timezone. I do not use this watch for scuba diving but washing my hands and rain I have never had a problem with this watch. I have owned the watch now 3 years 2 years were in the Navy never had an issue. 1st set of batteries lasted 2 years. See battery con.
I am righting this review because I would like more civilians to get familiar with this manufacturer and thus help out my watch in the process. Hope this review helps.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat everyday watch

Pros: It does pretty much everything I wanted it to do without any difficulty. I haven't owned any other watched in it's class and usually buy Nixon's but this was purchased specifically with the outdoors and snowboard season coming up but has already become my everyday favorite. Glass face is also really nice and make it very durable and shows quality that of more expensive watches.

Cons: It arrived with a dead battery, luckily I could just run out to the store and get another and be able to change it myself otherwise this would have been very disappointing. The only other downfall, which sounds like it is common on Suunto watches, is the flickering that occurs while in compass mode with the back light on.

Other Thoughts: Overall a great watch. I am sure there are others who use it's functionality way more then I do but it's nice to know it's there.

5 out of 5 eggsGorgeous Watch, Not very useful though..

Pros: Killer looks, rather scratch resistant, good fit for smaller and medium sized wrists.

Cons: Not very accurate, not very useful for anything other than watch, stop watch, countdown timer and date.

Other Thoughts: Despite all the gripes I have, the watch is filling me with joy - so 5 stars all around.

The watch is loaded with cool gadgets like barometer, altimeter, thermometer and compass features -- none of which are very useful unless you are ready to feed it pre-populated data. The challenge is that if you are traveling from place to place, you have to look up the reference altitude pressure and true north offset. You are better off packing a handheld GPS. Here is why:

Compass - unless you know your true north offset to your position you will be off by few degrees. It gets worse if you are traveling across the country. Great tool for your back yard adventures, not so great if you are a traveler.

Temperature - the sensor is less than a centimeter away from your skin so most of the time it will tell you your body temperature instead of the outside temperature. I guess if you keep it away from your body it might be useful... MIGHT.

Barometer - similar to the compass, you need to know your reference altitude or pressure to be useful. Great feature for your in-town adventures but that's about it.

Altimeter - same issue as barometer. Meh.

Digital watch - not so accurate. In a course of a month, the watch had to be corrected twice -- first time it was off by 40 seconds and then second correction was offsetting 20 second lag. So in a month, we have 1 min inaccuracy. I've seen better.

Back light - decent, no complaints.

"All Black" with "negative display" -- great. wait. not just great - awesome. Really cool looking and surprisingly visible. I've seen reviews complaining about it -- I just can't figure out why. Clearly visible in bright light (Texas sun tested) and in dark conditions. The muted display is half of charm.

Other gripes -- storm alarm. Useless. Unless you want to be woken up in the middle of the night for no reason. Unless it's a "true storm" don't expect to be using this feature.

Middle button -- annoyingly placed to switch features from time to barometer and compass each time you bend your hand. It could have been placed in a 45 degree position but no, suunto wanted it dead smack in the center. Actually, this is my biggest gripe about the watch.

Glass -- perfect. I stick my hands into computers (read: sharp edges) and into other tight spots and yet I have to see a scratch on the glass even though I banged it many times where I was certain I would see some damage.

Now taking the above into consideration -- the watch still gets 5 stars cause it's a looker. I'd love to see its little brother -- without the useless features for half the price so that I can give everyone in the family an awesome gift. Would I buy it again? Umm.. probably, I definitely don't regret the looks, but I am disappointed with the inaccurate watch and useless features.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: This watch is incredible. I ride motorcycles cross country and this watch is perfect. I get compass, barometer, storm alerts, altitude tracking, multiple time zones, keeps perfect time! I love the way it fits too. I have big wrists, so I love the size of the face and the band fit perfect out of the box!

Cons: I didn't realize the military version is dark, so you almost always have to use the light or be in good light to see it.

5 out of 5 eggsSuunto Core

Pros: Multi-functional, rugged, versatile, and stylish. Reasonably priced.

Cons: It came with this dodgy manual. You had to download the real manual online.

Other Thoughts: Great watch. Does everything my old Suunto did but better. Shipping was fast.

5 out of 5 eggsFunctional and Fashionable

Pros: My Tech Level represents the fact that this is only the second watch purchased throughout the course of a long life. I am not easily obsessed by watches.

The Product Number on my watch is identical to the one for which I'm leaving this review. However, my box says nothing about "military." My box refers to the watch as a Suunto Core All Black. I hope this helps you compare apples to apples.

The buckle/latch on my watch is black, not silver. (It is silver in the pictures currently displayed for this item.)

Cons: The alarm can only be set for one time at a time. That's frustrating when trying to use it as, for example, a meeting or medication reminder. A cool upgrade would be multiple alarms. Even better, a recurring (for example one day a week) alarm.

Other Thoughts: The watch band is flat black. However, there is one thing that surprised me: In sunlight, the band has a very subtle sparkle. Not a metal-flake, loud shine. Just a slight glitter.

I bought this locally after sitting next to somebody on a flight that was wearing a Vector. Exploring the Vector for awhile convinced me there are watches worth wearing. Core seems, to me, the adult version of the watch. You could almost get away with wearing a Core with a suit.
This watch was purchased exclusively for flights, when it's often difficult to reach for something else that tells time. This watch has spent much more time on my wrist than I have spent flying.

Designed in Finland. Made in China.

4 out of 5 eggsthis watch is a toy

Pros: this watch has googaplex features. really nice looking and fits well. temp readings do work (see other thoughts)

Cons: depth meter only goes to 32ft/10m which is big for me cause im a scuba diver and one of the main reasons i bought it. weather indicator is only an up or down arrow with an alarm to warn you when a significant drop in pressure has occurred. compass has to be flat which isnt really a biggie except you have to take the watch off to do so or at least the manual suggests you do that for best results.

Other Thoughts: to the review above. the temp readings do work but you have to take the watch off or else it will try to read you body heat as well as the air temp. Maybe its just me and my prior military training but i feel this watch to be a bit like a toy. would probably be fine for someone else but its just not for me.
