Sigma's new 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM large-aperture standard zoom lens covers a focal length from 17mm wide angle and offers a large aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, making it ideal for many types of photography especially portraiture and landscapes. The OS, Sigma's anti shake feature offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than would otherwise bepossible. The OS feature allows Sony and Pentax users the option of viewing a stabilized image in the viewfinder, a feature offered only by Sigma. HSM provides fast and quiet AF. Sigma's own FLD glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite along with two glass mold and one hybrid aspherical lens, provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. The Super Multi-Layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. This lens boasts superior peripheral brightness and provides sharp, high contrast images even atthe maximum apertures. With a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches throughout the entire zoom range and a magnification ratio of 1:5. When you need to stand ready for any photo opportunity you need a fast aperture so you can shoot in low existing light or at maximum range with a flash. This Sigma lens is perfect. With its compact size and light weight, it's a necessary addition to your camera bag Please Note Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size or 35mm SLR cameras. This item comes with the lens itself, front and back caps, a lens hood and a case. Also this item has the retail Package.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Low distortion, crisp resolutions and good bokeh. It's a great lens when it can

Cons: Ran in the infamous Sigma focus hunt issue after a short time using the lens.

5 out of 5 eggsSigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens Canon

Pros: Fast / accurate auto-focus, Rugged, Strong Construction, Easily Interchangeable, Durable, Sharp at all focal length, Great image quality. If you need an f2.8 type lens, I highly recommend giving Sigma a look. IT ALSO COMES WITH A LENS HOOD :-) and good pouch.

Cons: Nothing to complain about.

Other Thoughts: It ranks above Canon 17-55m...check the stats.

3 out of 5 eggsSharp, but "cheap"

Pros: Very low CA, bokeh is OK, very sharp, large aperture. Price for lens abilities is good.

Cons: Feels cheap and "plasticy." Manual focus sucks, very "cheap, plastic toy" feeling. Zoom is also cheap and plastic feeling with some tight spots. Nothing smooth and controlled with focus or zoom, but it's not an L series or a Zeiss or even an old FD lens. Truthfully, I would have just used an adapter with my old 24mm and 50mm F/1.4 Canon FD lenses if I had known this was so cheap and chincy of a lens. Oh well. You used to get what you paid for, now I don't even know if that's true? In ten years, this lens will be LONG gone and my old FD lenses will still be shooting through EOS/FD adapters.

Other Thoughts: Pictures are sharp and crisp, but the manual focus (certainly if you are using for video) totally sucks. Auto focus is not all that fast, but it's a cheapo lens.

5 out of 5 eggsNice alternative to overly expensive Canon

Pros: Blows away kit lens. Has become my everyday lens for my Canon 7D. Takes tack sharp images and has great color balance and background blur. I am able to crop/zoom in on photos and still have a clear sharp images. Took some great action shots of kids jumping into the pool at high shutter speeds and was blown away with the perfectly clear shots with true to life color

Cons: The only concern is slightly louder focusing noise than my canon lenses but it is by no means loud

Other Thoughts: I was torn between the $1100.00 canon equivalent and this lens as my first Sigma. I cannot be more happy to have high quality photos and to have the extra $400 dollars in my pocket. Do your homework and read comparisons online and you will see that this lens actually outperforms the higher priced canon in many tests. Excellent job Sigma. You now have a future customer
