The Jabra M5390 Bluetooth USB headset is a multiuse headset that connects simultaneously to mobile phones and desk phones - or to mobile phones and PC softphones (via the enclosed PC dongle). The Jabra M5390 Multiuse headset combines the sound and range performance known from office headsets with the convenience of a mobile headset. Based on next generation Bluetooth technology, it offers true wide-band audio when used with the A335w dongle or a soft phone. And the extended wireless range allows users to answer calls up to 70 meters from their desks. The design and wearing style is optimized for office staff, managers and specialists who spend most of their time in the office - and less on the go. For optimum call clarity in loud office environments, the microphone is placed close to the users' mouth and features noise canceling technology. When out of the office, the Jabra M5390 seamlessly connects to the users' mobile phone or PC based softphone.

Please note: base is NOT included.

3 out of 5 eggsBetter range but some static

Pros: Love the over-the-head adapter and the longer range.

Cons: Purchased this to have a Skype with an out of state horse trainer, but it's a bit too static for that as I moved over 40' from the computer. My fault for not checking first, but it can't be used with Kindle either because it does not have A2DP technology (I blame that on Kindle's limits). Lots of static indoors if not in direct line of sight. Most significant con is that the long range advertised only works with the PC, not with a cell phone or other device. And you have to re-pair if you move it from PC to PC.

3 out of 5 eggsJabra M5390 USB Headset

Pros: Easy to set up and use, comfortable and lightweight. The call volume and sound are good. USB charging cable for PC charging is a little too short, but works well. Out of the box user experience was good.

Cons: There is an annoying beep every 20 seconds when on mute. It's native to the headset and quite loud. Annoying, to say the least. If it weren't for the unavoidable dual-tone beep, it would be a solid 4 stars

3 out of 5 eggsWorks with Linux Ubuntu 11.10 out-of-the-box!

Pros: Out of the box, I was able to plug in the included USB dongle, pair it with the headset and start using it under Ubuntu Linux 11.10.

Works well with Skype on Linux. also works fine with Audacity, Movie Player, and Banshee on Linux.

Good Range: I can walk upstairs and downstairs in a two-story house and still listen/talk on the headset.

Two ways to wear. I find it comfortable to wear with the "headset" attachment more than the "over-the-ear" attachment.

I use it several hours each day for conference calls on Skype.

Cons: By connecting up with the included A335W USB dongle, I was not able to get the mute button on the headset to function under Ubuntu Linux. It is frustrating to have to go into the control panel to mute and unmute the headset. (minus two stars on this point. Otherwise, I would give it five stars. This feature is important for when you use for conference calls)

The A335W USB dongle manual is not included in the box (only the Headset manual is included). But you can download the manual from the manufacturer's website.

Other Thoughts: I found out how to mute/unmute the Jabra microphone on the command line in Linux (need to have Pulse Audio command line interface installed):

pacmd list-sources #to figure out the source id number for 'Jabra A335w OC Analog Mono'

pacmd set-source-mute THE_SOURCE_INDEX_FOR_JABRA 0 #unmute

pacmd set-source-mute THE_SOURCE_INDEX_FOR_JABRA 1 #mute

People can use this information to set up their own custom keyboard shortcuts for muting/unmuting the microphone.
