5 out of 5 eggsGreat Design for USB storage on the go!

This review is from: Silicon Power 64GB Jewel J80 USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Very durable, sleek and easy to travel with
Great price for storage amount
Recognized immediately on various operating systems

Cons: With no cover, I feel like I have to pick out pocket lint once in a while

Other Thoughts: For the price, I feel this product is well worth it. I have had no troubles with data transferring and like that it quick to mount on any system. It is USB 3.0, but, transfer speeds do not hit the expected threshold. In my testing, I was getting 120MB read/sec and 23MB writes/sec. I have do have a Kingston 3.0 (118 write/7 read) and AData 3.0 (126 read/5 write) in the same budget price point and the Silicon Power J80 exceeds performance (the 16GB version of the J80 tested better in read access, but slower for writes). It's not on the level of Sandisk Extreme (190 read/90 write), but 1/3 of the cost for the same storage. I'm not so sure on the 'waterproofness' - I'm not keen to try, but it does have a lifetime warranty which gives peace of mind.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat until it died

This review is from: Silicon Power 64GB Jewel J80 USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Relatively quick, small, and durable

Cons: Died after 4 months, not even remotely close to full USB 3.0 transfer speeds

Other Thoughts: Had to RMA, will update if that doesn't go smoothly.
**Update -- RMA was VERY smooth (I had newegg invoice and kept the original package). The replacement appears to be a newer model so hoping this one doesn't fail in the first few months**

4 out of 5 eggsUnit is very strong in relation to ordinary plastic or nylon cases.

This review is from: Silicon Power 64GB Jewel J80 USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Unit has a very high precision solid connector. Seems fast when compared to some of my other USB drives.

Cons: Even though it is a very sturdy design, I wish it had a case to protect the input from dust and other contaminates. I don't usually like a cap that covers the input but perhaps a future design that retracts to reveal the USB port that is not a separate piece would be advantageous.

Other Thoughts: Without a doubt I would recommend this piece. 64 gigs in that sturdy of a body is worth any pocket or environmental connector contamination.

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with older computers

This review is from: Silicon Power 64GB Jewel J80 USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Seems sturdy, and well designed for a keychain. It's been banging around in my bum bag for 1500 miles worth of bike commuting and shows no wear. And of course it still works. It's not as fast as some 3.0 drives, but it's fast enough.

Cons: Though USB 3.0 is supposed to be backward-compatible, I haven't found a computer more than a few years old that will recognize this drive. I've tried on maybe six, so it may be compatible with some older USB ports, but it certainly isn't a "universal" drive.

Other Thoughts: Updated: I'm still carrying it on my keychain, but am about to replace it because of the fact it doesn't run on anything but USB 3.0. There are a lot of computers out there that aren't 3.0 and I'm getting tired of it not working with them.
