3 out of 5 eggsA question for Charles L. and others who have this

This review is from: Silicon Power S60 3K P/E Cycle Toggle MLC 2.5" 120GB 7mm SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It might be a nice price

Cons: Odd read speed?

Other Thoughts: Charles L.8/17/2014 8:01:59 PM, I was wondering if you were testing when connected to a SATA III port. You stated that CrystalDiskMark gave you Sequential: 254.3 MB/s Read, 181 MB/s Write performance but I would expect more like 400+ sequential reads with a SF-2281 and sync nand.

Thank for any clarifications you or anyone can give.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeed Up You Laptop

This review is from: Silicon Power S60 3K P/E Cycle Toggle MLC 2.5" 120GB 7mm SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This hard drive will easily speed up your laptop.

This hard drive is the answer to breathing new life into an old slow laptop. There are other options like adding ram, but this will give you the best bang for the buck.

What makes this hard drive so fast is that there are no moving parts. . Inside is a SSD (Solid State Drive), which makes for faster access and transfer speeds. The drive is very similar to that of a “Thumb Drive”, just must bigger and faster.

Since the hard drive is only 7mm thick, I was able to replace the older spinning hard drive without any clearance issues. After installation of the new drive, I very quickly noticed how much faster the computer was. It was as if it was a new computer all over again. Now the startup time is cut in half, from minutes to seconds. Also, it only takes a few seconds to open up Microsoft Word.

This drive stopped me from having to go out and buy a new computer.

Cons: None

This review is from: Silicon Power S60 3K P/E Cycle Toggle MLC 2.5" 120GB 7mm SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Make sure you enable AHCI for best speed :D

4 out of 5 eggsHave not bought but may for Netbook

This review is from: Silicon Power S60 3K P/E Cycle Toggle MLC 2.5" 120GB 7mm SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: The Oh So Hard to find Registration Website. Sheesh.
https://silicon-power.com/support/new_pro_reg.php?type=_reg&css_1=2&currlang=utf8

Cons: None other than those that think they are Computer Guru's.

Other Thoughts: I am soooo tired of wieners who because they can put all the parts together and install Windows think that they are a 5 star Tech Knowledge level, Sheesh guys don't mess up others purchases because you are a Techno Wienie.

5 out of 5 eggsPerformed well (181 MB/s Write) and a great price at $64.99 ($0.54 per GB)

This review is from: Silicon Power S60 3K P/E Cycle Toggle MLC 2.5" 120GB 7mm SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: + Very simple but effective design that tested faster than rated results from Silicon Power’s website.

Cons: - No accessories included. You will need to purchase additional cables and mounting bays.

Other Thoughts: ▶ Hardware
As other SSD’s, this SSD follows the 2.5” width pattern, but being a very thin 7mm (0.27” inches). The product comes in a black aluminum with the Silicon Power name, logo, model name, and storage size – my review unit being 120GB. As of writing this review, I’m comparing the difference between the S60, S70, V60, and V70, and can say the differences between each SSD are negligible, beside the S series being 7mm thick and the V series being 9.5mm thick. The more expensive drives have “SMART monitoring” and an improved “Error correction” system for bad blocks. This may interest you, but each drive has a 3 year limited warranty. If anything ever happens to the drive then it can be replaced. Comparing each drive by performance, Silicon Power’s website groups all the SSD’s according to storage, and claims 120GB drives reach results of “Read up to 460MB/s; Write up to 130MB/s” in the benchmarking program Crystal Disk Mark; This emphasizing prior point.

Another reviewer claims to bring up command prompt and enable “TRIM Support”. Assuming you are installing a new Windows OS on this SSD, you should not have to perform this task. Windows automatically enables TRIM support on SSDs, assuming the SSD supports TRIM. You may, however, want to “Reduce virtual memory”, “Ensure your SATA ports are configured to use AHCI mode in BIOS”, “Disable PageFile”, and “Disable Superfetch and Prefetch”. These tasks will prevent windows from storing unnecessary files and increase performance, but editing registries is VERY DANGEROUS and could damage your OS. I would proceed with caution if you are an advanced user and are willing to spend hours attempting to fix the potential spaghetti of a mess.

▶ Testing
I tested this SSD with my Windows 7 x64 PC and the benchmarking program Crystal Disk Mark, a program that measures the read and write speed of the drive. The benchmarking app performed 5 tests with 1000MB. The results were as follows (for additional results see screenshot):

Sequential: 254.3 MB/s Read, 181 MB/s Write

I am very satisfied with the results of 254 MB/s Read and 181 MB/s Write, since the write results far surpassed the 130 MB/s rating from Silicon Power’s website and read speeds aren’t very important. Yes, these weren’t 500 MB/s read and write speeds, but I’ve yet to test a product with such lucrative results.

▶ Final Thoughts
Aside from the geek talk about performance, the choice of product ultimately comes down to price. Silicon Power’s S60 is currently a whopping $64.99 ($0.54 per GB) – about the price of a brand new video game. I would definitely recommend and invest my money on this product, and because I have very few complaints, this product has received a 5 star rating.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product!

This review is from: Silicon Power S60 3K P/E Cycle Toggle MLC 2.5" 120GB 7mm SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Boots windows up fast. Things load instantly. It works great paired with a 2TB HDD for data. I was tired of having to wait for about 5 minutes for my computer to be stable and not take forever to load things after starting up. It takes less than 8 seconds from hitting the power button to get to the login screen. Soon as i log in i can use chrome INSTANTLY

Cons: Couldn't find where to register for a 5 year warranty; it's fine though, you get 3 from newegg; Silicon Power's website isn't good.

Other Thoughts: Not being able to register for the 5 year warranty didn't bother me very much, as Newegg gives 3 as it is, plus within 3 years ill be upgrading anyways. I have never experienced a product from SP yet, At first i thought they would be a cheap Chinese rip-off brand and was iffy about it, but so far i have not regretted it! I recommend this product.
