4 out of 5 eggsCool All-in-One Device

Pros: -Compact Design
-Easy to Install
-Powered USB 3.0 Hub & Card Reader
-Portable for trips where you need to extract data from your phone, tablet, etc.

Cons: -Did experience some random disconnects in the middle of file transfers. Not sure if it was because of the power cable not being tight or if it was a driver issue of some sort.
-Included 3 Ft. USB 3.0 Cable is a bit short. I would have preferred something in the 6 Ft. Range.

Other Thoughts: Overall a nice device with a few quirks. I haven't found another product that is directly comparable... however, HooToo products are generally well made with industry standard parts. All of my previous purchases from them turned out well.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, no power necessary

Pros: This thing is super fast. I bought it because I only have a laptop and USB slots are limited. I run a Ducky keyboard, Wacom tablet and a mouse off this thing without plugging it in.

I also use it to pull gigs and gigs of photos from my camera's compact flash MUCH faster than simply plugging in the camera directly.

Cons: The LED is brighter than ten thousand suns. Electrical tape is a must, so add $2.99 to the price or raid your friends' garages and find some?

5 out of 5 eggsJust works!

Pros: Several slots makes this card reader work with just about any memory card. The additional USB 3.0 ports makes it even better. No hassles, just worked right out of the box! Very satisfied.

Cons: I found nothing that would be close to a con on this unit.

3 out of 5 eggsHooToo HT-CR002 Ext USB 3.0 combo hub & reader

Pros: Convenient to have a card reader & hub in same box.
USB 3.0 is fast

Cons: Not stable enough for me. Has failed a couple times during extended file transfers both from hard drives and large CF cards. Works fine on short transfers. No longer use it for dumping a 64GB cards or TB sized hard drives.

Other Thoughts: Idea of combo is good but I've have gone back to separate hub and separate reader. I don't have sufficient confidence in this HooToo combo to bring it with me on trips. NewEgg should also correct the spelling of the word Cable in the description. It is spelled Cabel. Apparently some customers take that a indication of the quality of the product. Maybe so based on my experience.

5 out of 5 eggsMultiple Uses

Pros: Combines an external multi-card reader and a powered USB 3.0 hub.

Works perfectly with my Win7 64-bit PC with its AM3+ motherboard's onboard Eton USB 3.0 chipset.

When traveling, I have found this hub to be an indispensable accessory to my Nexus 7 tablet, which has 32GB of internal storage, but no expansion card slot. So the only way I could utilize any external data was to root the device, and plug an OTG cable into its charging port. When practical (or necessary), I generally plug this hub into the OTG cable, rather than just a USB flash drive directly. If powered, the hub reduces battery drain on the tablet. Also, using the hub in this way, the tablet can "see" multiple external drives, and the tablet can simultaneously utilize an external USB mouse and/or keyboard - all connected via this hub. It all works wonderfully to overcome the Nexus' stock limitations.

The hub's ability, with my tablet, to enable multiple drive usage, can sometimes be really helpful. For example, HD video files sized 4GB+ can only exist on NTFS formatted drives. But NTSF drives are read-only to current Android devices. So to also be able to write, you need a 2nd external FAT32 formatted drive (or partition). With this hub, no problem combining different drive types (e.g. USB stick, HDD, SDHC card).

If this tablet/phone solution is of interest, note 2 things: (1) Speed will be limited to USB 2.0 specs (that's all current Android devices support). (2) Although the hub will power all attached USB devices, an Android device's internal battery won't charge through a simple OTG cable connection.

This device's card-reading ability is exceptional. I have an SDHC card that, after about a year's use, somehow got sufficiently damaged that numerous card-readers and cameras couldn't even recognize it on insertion. Only this device could. Using this device, I was able to reformat the card. But even after the reformat, other card readers still couldn't even recognize it. Yet through this HooToo device, I've been able to successfully use the damaged card as a Windows 7 installation media.

Cons: None, for me. I suspect that problems mentioned by other reviewers likely stem from use with older motherboard USB chipsets and/or drivers. Some early USB 3.0 implementations were pretty buggy.

Other Thoughts: It's very light, and can slip around. So for stable use in specific places, get some stick-on Velcro strips and attach to anchor.

If you do not need the card reader function, or if you specifically want to be able to charge Apple devices from a USB 3.0 hub, then newer devices are available, including from HooToo, which have more USB 3.0 ports, and may be more suitable.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work for me

Pros: It is a combo.

Cons: VIA VL810 Chipset.

Other Thoughts: It did not work for me. Not Newegg's fault. I think because of these very chips. My Laptop and Desktop have Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller and Etron EJ168A, respectively. It took forever to install the drivers and only in part. it would not recognize any of the devices I hooked. I guess people with those chips be aware. I have flawless luck with USB 3.0 Hubs and readers with "VIA VL812" and "Realtek RTS5307" Newegg sells them. They are "Orico N82E16817195001" and Tek Republic N82E16820805001" Hope that helps someone.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't last long

Pros: Size

Cons: Some devices worked when the unit was on it's power supply and some required the power supply to be unplugged. Others would not work at all. I was able to deal with those issues but now it's completely dead. Avoid this thing. Get a straight up USB hub and a separate card reader.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: a Very small devcie, lots of extra ports

Cons: Having to use the external power supply is annoying, but I can live with it.

Other Thoughts: I originally bought a HT-CR001, the internal version of this device. I have an Asus M4A89GTD motherboard with (2) USB 3.0 ports that have just never worked right. I bought the internal unit to fix the problem and to get the SD card readers. Long story short, even disabling the USB 3.0 chip set on the BIOS motherboard wouldn't allow the internal unit to work and the (2) devices conflicted (which HooToo readily admits could happen). Contacted HooToo Technical Support via email to fix the problem and to get the latest greatest driver but we just couldn't get it to work. HooToo offered to replace this unit with the standalone HT-CR002 at no charge. I agreed to that solution and the new unit showed up in 3 days. THAT device works great. Based on this single customer service experience, I have to enthusiastically recommend HooToo products.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes almost everything

Pros: This thing does almost everything. Three USB 3.0 ports, a SD, MS, T-F/M2 and CF slots. All ports and card readers work properly

Cons: Shouldn't complain, due to it's compact size, but it only has three USB 3.0 ports. That said it has all those card readers to make up for it.

Short 3 foot USB cable to connect the unit to your computer.

Also, I really like having the quick charge USB port that Hoo-Too sports on another USB 3.0 Hub. This model doesn't have it.

Other Thoughts: A very compact unit if you need the card readers. If you dont need them then I would get their USB 3.0 Four port hub with build in night light.
