This is the long awaited successor to Alfa's popular AWUS036H. The AWUS036NHR utilizes a new 802.11n chipset from Realtek (RTL8188RU) and is light years ahead of its predecessor. Alfa's AWUS036NHR combines the fast speed of 802.11n with long range reception for both 802.11g and 802.11n standards. This Device is the best Alfa has Produced yet.

If you're built-in Wi-Fi adapter is not picking up your Router or if you are trying to pick up Wi-Fi from long distances then this is the device to get! The AWUS036NH Receiver sensitivity will allow you to connect from greater distances and get stronger signals to Wi-Fi networks around you. With maximum speeds of 150 mbps to 802.11n routers, AWUS036NHR is also a perfect solution for video streaming, large downloads, and online gaming. Windows 7 users can easily turn AWUS036NHR into a simultaneous access point using Connectify, a free program

Most Network Adaptors can get great Range and sensitivity when the router that they are receiving form is set to "N-only" mode which blocks backward compatibility with B and G adaptors but most people are not able to set the router to N-only mode as this would block connectivity for G-only devices like iPhones, Android phones, and many DVRs. This AWUS036NHR is one of the first Wi-Fi adapters to get very good receive sensitivity to both 802.11n-only, 802.11n/g mixed, and 802.11g networks

- Compatible with IEEE 802.11n, 802.11b/g/n wireless standards
- 2.4GHz frequency band, MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output)
- Complies with Universal Serial Bus Rev. 2.0 specifications
- High speed transfer TX data rate up to 150 Mbps
- Supports wireless data encryption with 64/128-bit WEP, WPA, WPA2, TKIP, AES4n
- Support software AP
- Compliant with FCC Part 15.247 for US, ETS 300 328 for Europe
- Supports driver for Windows 2000, XP 32/64, Vista 32/64, Windows 7 - Mac (10.4.x/10.5.x/10.6.x) Power PC& PC.

5 out of 5 eggsAlpha Network AWUS036NHR (5 Eggs)

Pros: I purchased a new primary desktop PC and moved the previous desktop to my "Man Cave". (Basement) This means the Wi-Fi AP is 2 floors above me.
I do have Wi-Fi coverage in the basement, but the signal is only fair. I purchased this for the desktop knowing the CPU would be located beneath the table. (Even more attenuation) It's important to know that the RF unit can be located remotely from the computer and situated where there is better signal. Also note this uses a REAL antenna! (Add even more db's). Note: Signal strength is excellent vs. laptop w/internal antenna is only fair. Also important, because of Very Good RSL, the network link speed is stable rather than constantly "hunting". (This is a data throughput killer.) I can also orient the antenna for proper polarization, I use horizontal to aim coverage into the basement and prevent spilling into the neighborhood.
Installation was straightforward despite what is noted below.

Cons: The instruction manual needs updating. I had to find the executable setup file and start manually. Carefully step through the process and all went well and the RF unit lit up! Anyone with moderate computer skills should have no problems.

Other Thoughts: This wireless adaptor works exceptionally well. The secret is placing the Radio Unit remote from the rear panel of the computer. (Not to mention a REAL antenna.) I can see practical installations using a 20' long USB and locating the radio unit near an upstairs window or away form metal HVAC ducting. BTW: The kit is equipped with a spring clip or suction cup to locate the radio unit. Sticky back Velcro from the hobby or mill store works really well too.

4 out of 5 eggsSatisified Customer

Pros: Wonderful Reception, what I'd expect out of ALFA

Cons: Sometimes the Linux Drivers Crash for ubuntu 14 and they're kind of out of date on the merchant website, but many merchants fail to keep up with their drivers anyway. Till then I'm using generics.

Other Thoughts: I've heard from other customers if something goes wrong, returning to ALFA is kind of a pain with their customer service, however I've purchased 2 of these adapters and they've functioned perfectly fine.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works, but there are better options

Pros: It works. It comes with two antennas, one directional.

Cons: Adjusting the omni-antenna for directionality doesn't seem to make it equivalent to the antenna in my Alienware computer (4 years old) or my new "TP-LINK TL-WN822N Wireless N300 High Gain USB Adapter, 300Mbps, Dual 3dBi External Antennas"

While it's nice that a directional antenna was also included, it, too, doesn't seem to outperform the TL-WN822N.

I'd prefer the second both on price and performance.

Other Thoughts: My laptop should have a 240 Watt power supply, but current supply is 150 Watt. This may impact my results. It seems to run fine, otherwise but I haven't benchmarked it.

5 out of 5 eggsgood range

Pros: I travel in an RV and often it is necessary to use a high-powered network adapter to "punch through" other RVs and vegetation to communicate with an access point. This adapter works well for that.

Cons: It uses a Realtek chipset, but it will not work with generic Realtek drivers. It will only work with Alfa's provided drivers. I suppose this isn't a problem as long as it does what I need it to.

Other Thoughts: It is easy to attach a larger antenna, if you think you need to.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing wireless Adaptor

Pros: Great wireless adapter! Has worked flawlessly for as long as I have had it. I use it on a desktop computer that acts as my in home server. Never had any issues and it has worked flawlessly.

Also compatible with tools such as Backtrack.

Cons: None that I have noticed.

Other Thoughts: I am thinking of buying another one for my Brother-in-law.

4 out of 5 eggsAlfa AWUS036NHR

Pros: Pros
This thing was super easy to get up and running on my Windows box. It comes with simple and easy to understand instructional material (CD and foldout guide) and it only a couple of minutes before I had it out of the box and working for me. It really has a great range; I’m seeing a lot more wireless networks then I can see with just my built-in wireless.
I haven’t had it very long yet so I can’t say anything about its longevity or durability.

Cons: Cons
My only Con thus far is due to my own inexperience regarding the Lennox operating system (specifically BackTrack 5 r3). Really, the only reason I got this device was for my BT5 box, (running as a VM in VMware on top on my Windows 7 OS) but I’m a real noob when it comes to Lennox and I haven’t figured out how to make it connect yet.
So, I guess it would be great if it came with some sort of guide on how to make it work with Lennox machines. As it is, the only guide is comes with is for Windows, even though it says it works with Lennox right on the front of the box it comes in. (And I went looking for this item because I read in the BT forum that this device would work with a BT VM.)

Other Thoughts: Other thoughts
I look at this as just another puzzle I get to figure out. And it still works great with the Windows host machine so I’m still happy enough with it.
