Ubiquiti 300Mbps UniFi Access Point (UAP-US) US Version

Time and cost efficient, the UniFi is a revolutionary WiFi system which combines carrier class performance, unlimited scalability, disruptive pricing, and a virtual management controller. With the use of a clean industrial design, it seamlessly blends into typical environments. The Unifi also allows you to build wireless networks as small or big as you need, where you can start with one and expand to thousands. Intuitive software provides speeds of 300Mbps and reaches ranges of up to 500 feet. Once the UniFi server is installed on a Mac or PC, the controller may be accessed through any device using a web browser.
The UniFi controller allows the operator to:
instantly provision thousands of UniFi Aps
map out networks
quickly manage system traffic
further provision individual Unifi Ap devices.

Also included is Power Over Ethernet (POE) functionality which allows both power and data to be carried over a single Ethernet cable to the device. At the front-center of the device is a status LED ring which can provide the administrator with location tracking and alerts for each device.

1 out of 5 eggsWarning: Don't Buy

Pros: Looks nice, and mounts nicely./

Cons: Doesn't work. I've setup hundreds of access points. This AP is configured properly, but keeps randomly going into stand-by mode (no access). This was a brand-new device out of the box. Replaced with a cheap AP and it works fine. Will never buy Ubiquiti again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat AP

Pros: This thing is the perfect AP, not too many junk features, but stable as a rock, awesome management software, and as scalable as you want it. You can even install the management software on an internet facing computer/server and manage AP's from disparate sites.

Very nice low profile design, feels like decent quality equipment, and come with PoE adapter for very discrete setup.

Could not recommend enough.

Cons: Can't think of any, other than know that you are getting an AP and not some junk home router bloated with features. This thing is born and bred to be a pure AP device.

Other Thoughts: After testing at my home, I will be moving most of the small and medium sized business installs I handle to these devices. The stability and ease of management are absolutely top notch.

4 out of 5 eggsGood AP for the house. Wife apporoved.

Pros: Looks like a smoke detector. That's great because it's in my living room dining room area. The price is great I was thinking of the Cisco 321 AP. But I read another newegg review pointing me to this item. At the price I figure what the heck. I'm so pleased thus far. Strong signal, good management software, and again the looks are appealing. Also you can turn off that LED if you choose. You get everything you need to make this work out of the box!

Cons: Sort of a Pro also:
The software was non-responsive, it would install but it would not launch. I called tech support and left a voice mail. In the meantime after some googling I found a link to the Beta software on the manufacturer's forums. This worked. The tech support called back the same day within a few hours actually. They explained to me that it was a problem with Java and the latest version of java security wasn't playing nice with their current version of software. But they hope to finalize the beta in a few weeks of this post. Only one egg lost because they should have linked the beta software on the main site with a disclaimer.

Other Thoughts: It was refreshing to see that the company responded so quickly to my voice mail. I am on the lookout for other products from them in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Solution for Me!

Pros: Took me 20 minutes to have it installed and live at my church. It goes up into suspended ceiling SO EASILY!!! The management software will update all AP's firmware automatically. I am getting incredible range in a mostly block and brick building, and I'm even covering most of the parking lot. I like the design, and the LED tells me it's status whenever I walk by.

Cons: The PoE injector is smaller than I expected, but I couldn't reach my outlet because the cord is only about 2 feet. A longer cord would get in the way if it were attached to a full size switch however so I'm ok with it.

Other Thoughts: So far so good!

5 out of 5 eggsEnterprise Grade

Pros: The device comes with a POE injector and management software to get you going. It looks like a smoke detector and because it is fed via ethernet you can make it very inconspicuous.

Cons: Not really for home use, not sure this is really a con. When I say this I mean that your average user may not care for how it's setup.

Other Thoughts: Very neat unit that has a low profile.
