5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product - Exceeded expectations

Pros: I bought 3 of these units for our church, which is a medium/large sized church with classrooms. The range and coverage on these units exceeded my expectations. There are no dead spots in the entire building made of brick. In fact, when I run my WiFi analyzer, the signal never dips below -60 dBm. I was so impressed I replaced my WiFi solution at home with one of these units.

Cons: Management interface might be a bit overwhelming to someone with little or no experience with networks.

Other Thoughts: Exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend these units for both commercial and personal.

5 out of 5 eggsBest AP's money can buy

Pros: Easily managed and range is crazy!

Cons: not really any cons. The controller can be a bit hard to upgrade once you have it established but that's no big deal.

Other Thoughts: Best wireless system money can buy - especially for enterprise. Granted it doesn't have some of the tools the larger players have but for the vast majority, this contains everything you need .. and it so much cheaper.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Unhappy

Pros: Looks nice, worked for a while.

Cons: Can only be administered through proprietary software from a single PC. If that PC is lost, you need to reset the unit to get back in to administer. After that it stopped working.
1) custom software sucks
2) access from only 1 pc sucks
3) pOe is a pain
4) buggy, difficult to reset, difficult to unplug once it's mounted

Other Thoughts: we switched back to our older cisco linksys wireless and it's much easier to configure. only need a web browser!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for SoHo/SMB

Pros: I work for an outsourced IT Company, and our AP of choice for our smaller single AP clients is always Ubiquiti.

Amazing cost to performance ratio, enterprise reliability, and easy setup (if you have any sort of technical expertise). These are set it and forget it units -- I have about 10 running at a remote site with NO CONTROLLER and they perform flawlessly. Radio separation is very far, so client handoff is not really an issue, but not a single one has dropped configuration or needed a reboot in the past year they have been deployed.

Hands down, if you are looking for a high powered, long range, low price, single-band 802.11N access point, look no further. Meraki, Ruckus, etc. can't even come close to the same price point (though those are really designed for scale-out environments).

Cons: No ethernet cables in the box (One patch cable would have been nice to add), no activity indicators on the network ports (on either the injector or the actual AP itself).

The software setup could probably be designed a bit better, but once you have the controller up and running it is very stable.

Other Thoughts: My installation method is as follows;
1. Download the UniFi controller software from Ubiquiti
2. Beofre installing, disable antivirus and your local software firewall
3. Install UniFi controller and start it up.

Assign your computer's LAN port a static IP address of 192.168.0.1, subnet does not matter, nor does gateway really.

Fire up the discovery software and it should see the unprovisioned access point.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible. Worked for 32 days, then not.

Pros: When it worked, it had good range and speed.

Cons: The convoluted setup required reverting back to Java 7 to allow the controller set up software to work. The only way you figure this out is to look on the multitude of forum entries to discover this. Then after exactly 32 days (2 days past the 30-day Newegg return and replacement policy expired) it shows up as "adoption failed" in the controller software, and no wireless access at all. I went through hours of looking for forum and FAQ solutions, and since I don't have an IT degree I have no way to know how to fix this. I will never buy Unifi stuff again.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid performer

Pros: Reliable, good quality hardware.

Cons: Somewhat tricky setup, spent two (partially) days to put everything in order.

Other Thoughts: No more dead zones in the house and outdoors!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing AP for the price

Pros: - Awesome range
- Good adaptability for point-source and large reflector interference
- Enterprise solution of hardware and controller software, comparable to any other commercial solution for much higher cost.
- Devices roam well between APs with an active controller.
- Hardware is not keyed to a controller or each other for the solution to work.
- Price is great for 3-pack or solo purchases.

Cons: - Needs the controller software on a PC or Mac nearby to manage the AP.
- Devices may not roam properly without the controller online.

Other Thoughts: Absolutely. Easy to set up and great value. Hardware is available through most reputable vendors.

5 out of 5 eggsShould have gotten these a long time ago!

Pros: Easy to install, great range, easy configuration with Ubiquiti software, low profile looks good installed.

Cons: Large diameter, only available in white, need a separate PoE injector for each AP. In other words, not much wrong with these APs

Other Thoughts: I've been struggling with poor quality consumer grade APs for years. These APs were very easy to install and configure and have great range with coverage both inside my home and well into my back yard.

5 out of 5 eggsLook No Further

Pros: Easy setup, great and informative web console, fast boot, price.

Cons: Could be tricky to setup if you have Windows Firewall running!

Other Thoughts: You have just found one of the best in the industry and buy them before some big corporation like Cisco or Juniper gobble it up and sell them to you for 10 times the price. However, it needs a bit of wrestling to get it setup.

I am an IT professional, so this is what I do day in and day out. I have always been partial to Meraki, but Meraki does not care to sell to Mr. Consumer so they have their ways of keeping us out of the club. Price is high, support is higher and they don't bother talking to you if you don't have an active subscription or support contract. So far this little thing they call Ubiquity does almost what Meraki does with a fraction of price and does it well, and it does not require lifetime commitment... "yet".

Now about the AP itself... it needs the software that does NOT come with the equipment. I never unwrap any media that comes with my purchase because of course "I'm an IT pro <sarcasm>", but in this particular case it is nice to have it in the box because the URL on the quick start could be old, which in my case it was.

Connected the injector and the watched the AP boot up reasonably quickly, but no detection.
So... a quick Google search did the trick and not Ubiquity, and got the UniFy Controller installed.

Oh... snap... detector software and controller cannot see the AP... I can see the IP in my DHCP table... reboot again, no dice.
Some web search... found out that Windows Firewall WILL block access, so I disabled it. Still nothing... rebooted both PC and AP, again, and once more... no dice.
Some more web search... and this is actually tricky: you need Java 7.xx or controller will not work. Uninstalled Java 8 and installed latest Java 7. This time, I'm in.
Setup was a breeeeeeeze... one of the easiest and kinda fun. I really like the statistics page where you can get all info down to what device is the high bandwidth user. Setup my home and guest wifi networks and that's about it... my Juniper SRX router will do the rest for me.

So... go for it. I am extremely happy... good range, good stats and good management. If you really need to know, you do not need to have the controller run on a server at all times. It only needs to be running if you are setting a guest portal, like when you connect your phone to a public wifi and are redirected to a web page where you gotta put other info. Otherwise it is only required to program the darn thing. It will not affect your guest or home network in any way.

I love mine... and I hope you do yours.

5 out of 5 eggsBest access point EVER

Pros: No dropouts
Extremely long range
Looks super cool

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have lived in my current house for about 13 years now. I have always struggled with an access point that will not require frequent resets and that would cover my house 100%. This thing does the job perfectly. I used to have 40% on Ipad and <20 from my phone in master bathroom. My son struggled with reception upstairs (directly above old access point). ZERO problems with this Ubiquiti one. It is such a solid product that I now run my PS3 wireless instead of over ethernet. I could not be more pleased with this product and can NOT recommend it enough. The UniFi software that is used works on Win7 perfectly and was actually the easiest access point config ever. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
