AP Mode(Default)
Definition: HT-WR01 is connected to a wired network and transforms the wired Internet access into wireless so that multiple devices can share the Internet. It works as an access point.
1. Office, home, hotel and places where only wired network is available.
2. LAN gaming party, small meeting with file sharing and other situations where a temporary network is needed.

Repeater Mode
Definition: HT-WR01 copies and reinforces the existing wireless signal to extend the coverage of the signal. So the network name(SSID) and password don't change. This mode is especially useful for a large space to eliminate signal-blind corners.
Application: Large house, office, warehouse or other spaces where the existing signal is weak.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: None

Cons: I've spent a lot of time trying to config this, both as a wifi repeater and an access point. I've tried it off of different routers in each case, and have never gotten reliable service out of it.

This product is trash. Don't buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery practical device

Pros: I did not buy it directly from Newegg, but... It works great. I use it as a WiFi repeater for the hot spot created by Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It greatly increased coverage area. Accessing WR01 interface was easy with Win 7 laptop, wirelessly, setup took 1 minute or so. Very happy with performance and reliability of this gizmo. Also, customer support is top notch, as many already reported. Had a couple of questions, and received reply very fast and straight to the point...

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I found out that even when WR01 is in repeater mode, I could use wired connection from WR01 RJ45 socket to PC to have Internet access, which is reported as "local area connection". This was a bit unexpected, because there is nothing in the user guide which indicates such possibility. But it works just fine, and I really like it. Opens a bunch of opportunities, including options for connecting wired network printers, switches, etc. Got to play more with WR01 to find out what else is not mentioned in the user guide....

Will buy HT products again. These guys seems to make an excellent hardware and care about their customers.

3 out of 5 eggsHalting Data Connections

Pros: Small, interesting form factor. Many options for configuration. Picked up wireless router just fine, also able to reconfigure for wired ethernet access point configuration. Snappy web interface.

Got it for a song via a Shell Shocker deal.

Cons: Wireless just "stops" for periods of time. Doesn't matter whether connected as repeater or as its own access point. Everyone in the house started asking "What's up with the Internet?" after it was turned on. Android, iPhone, tablets, laptops - anyone on the side of the house with the device saw the same thing. Connection was made quickly (usually), and wireless worked ... kind of. It would suddenly stop for a given user, and either crawl along or just plain stop for 10-30 seconds. Then it would start up again. Streaming music would drop out every couple minutes. Switching back to my main access point would eliminate the dropouts. Switching it from repeater to wired access point made no difference.

The day I turned it off, I was checking the Shell Shocker deals one morning on my phone, and had to wait for the email to load pictures. It just sat there for a long count of ten or more ... then filled in the picures suddenly. Checked the access point connection with WiFi Analyzer - was connected to the HooToo. Irony at its finest.

Other Thoughts: As others have noted, it's not the simplest thing to configure. It failed to properly clone the SSID in repeater mode (though the dialog said it would) and I had to reconnect to the default SSID and static IP to reconfigure it.

5 out of 5 eggsGood product, good price.

Pros: It works the way that I expected it to.

Cons: The manual could be more informative but there is plenty of information on the web.

Other Thoughts: I am happy with it. No doubt it improved the wifi signal significantly.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter Than Expected

Pros: Works

Cons: Poor manual, Ethernet is only 100mbits

Other Thoughts: I didn't expect much for less than $20 but it was actually pretty slick what it can do. I was going to use it as a bridge to go from my wireless AP to the HooToo downstairs and connect a PC from the Ethernet port. Unfortunately, the 100mbit port is slower than my 500mbit Ethernet over power adapter. As a repeater, it does quite well, boosting spotty signal in the part of my house that had poor coverage.

5 out of 5 eggsRepeater mode works very well

Pros: Repeater mode works well to extend the range of our WiFi router.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I am not a networking expert, and I was hoping for Plug N Play, but the repeater requires setup. The wired setup requires going into network setting on the computer and making changes. However, the wireless setup does not, and that turns out to be very easy. The little instruction book shows how to do the wireless setup in a few short steps.

As someone else suggested, give the repeater a name that relates to your WiFi router for easy identification when trying to connect to it. After you enter your WiFi password into the repeater setup, your devices will find it and connect easily. If you want to make a change, use the reset button and start over. I could not access the setup screen wirelessly unless I did a reset.... but I really didn't need to since it works perfectly.

A very good value!

5 out of 5 eggsNice Wireless Network Extension

Pros: Status lights, rotating AC outlet plug, very good range and speed

Cons: Works in 2.4GHz band, not 5 GHz which has less coverage than 2.4, but is usually faster and less crowded.

Other Thoughts: Procedure: Connect with ethernet cable directly to your PC and then power on. Change PC IP address of network adapter to something in the range. Then log into the web configuration tool of the Hootoo at For repeater setup, configure the name of your network router, assign an IP address to the Hootoo and a NAME of the Hootoo that is on the same class as your router, usually Add in any network security keys you have stored in your router and save this info on the Hootoo. Keep DHCP onb Hootoo off. Remember, if your network router is called Smith, name your Hootoo repeater something like Smith-Repeater1 so you will see it cvlearly on your network to connect to it. Entire process should take about 5-10 mins. Restart the Hootoo and it should connect to your router and also your laptop/desktop should have IP address set back to that which it was on before Hootoo setup change. If all is working, you should now be able to browse internet on your laptop through the cable connected to the Hootoo. When all is set, simply unplug the Hootoo and plug it in at the location you want to use it at to extend your range and you should be able to connect your devices in that area with strong signal.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need it to do

Pros: Easy to set up.
Can be rotated so you don't use up both outlets.
So far seems reliable after one week, no freezing or having to reset.
Can be used anywhere you have an outlet.

Cons: Flashing green lights on front but I have it placed where it can't be seen.

Other Thoughts: I use this device as a range extender and it does that to my satisfaction. Good unit for the price.
