Frequently Asked Question:
1. Why is the transfer rate far slower than 5Gbps as promoted?
A: The USB 3.0 transfer rate of 5Gbps, with a theoretical transfer speed of 625MB/s, is about 10 times faster than of the mainstream USB 2.0 transfer rate of 480Mb/s, which has a theoretical transfer speed of 60 MB/s. Taking current usage conditions into consideration, the transfer speed can achieve about 3 times that of USB 2.0. The actual transfer speed depends on the specific environment the product is used in.

2. The hub keeps suddenly disconnecting with the device while transferring data. Why is this happening?
A: If this problem is occurring with properly-installed devices, it is usually due to insufficient power supply. When the hub is transferring data - especially big data - make sure it is connected to a power source. In addition, we recommend connecting the hub to your computer with the cable provided. If not, please make sure the cable length is less than 1m, so as to ensure stable data transfer.B: Please gently push and pull the outer devices cable to let it better connected to the hub and shake the hub gently to see if they are connected solidly before use it to transfer data.

3. The devices are not being identified by my computer when connected to the USB hub, but they are being identified when connected directly to the computer. Why is this happening?
A: This problem may be the result of one of the following causes:
a. Insufficient power supply. Please connect the USB hub to a power source.
b. Compatibility between the motherboard and system. Please try refreshing the BIOS in the motherboard.
c. System or BIOS settings. The USB may be disabled in your BIOS or operating system. Please turn on the computer, press F2 or DEL to enter the BIOS interface, then select “Enable USB device”.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective original and replacment

Pros: Looked good on paper, with a good Shell Shocker price a few weeks back. A few extra USB 2 ports are nice, but the main incentive was the pair of USB 3.0 ports as well as a high-current charging port. The rear of my PC (where its own USB3 ports are located) is not easy to access, so in principle, a self-powered hub on a 3-foot cable is perfect for me.

Devices connected to the sole working USB3 port performed just as fast as when connected directly to the computer.

Cons: The first unit I received had a malfunction in one of its USB3 ports. Users familiar with Windows 7 know that it plays a sound when connecting or disconnecting a USB device. Plugging a device into the bad USB3 port results in a long series of alternating "connected" and "disconnected" sounds, eventually concluding with an error message about device driver not being installed successfully and/or device not recognized. The remaining USB3 port worked normally. I sent the first unit back for a replacement, which I received today, and it exhibits the same behavior. Other USB2 and USB3 hubs in my possession do not malfunction like this.

Other Thoughts: This is my first HooToo product. The experience has left me very unlikely to buy anything else from that manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsNice variety of ports

Pros: Excellent variety of ports. Charging port quickly charges devices.

Cons: I would have liked to have the USB 3.0 ports on the top instead of 2 USB 2.0 ports.

1 out of 5 eggsWorse than not working

Pros: None

Cons: It would have been better if it did not work at all. I hooked up the HooToo hub and tested it with a scanner. The computer recognized the scanner although the computer emitted a large number of beeps as though it was installing drivers. I had to leave for a few minutes. When I returned, the computer had crashed - BSD. I got BSDs every time I restarted the computer, until I unplugged the HooToo Hub. After that the computer worked perfectly. I once again hooked up the hub with the same result. I am using a recent Asus Sabertooth Z87 motherboard and Windows 7 64bit with all updates.

Other Thoughts: I marked the product a 1 only because there is not a minus 10.

5 out of 5 eggsThe bottom line

Pros: It works as claimed--when it's not broken...

Cons: one broken unit does not spoil the whole item line. The first unit did not work properly with USB 3 drives. The replacement works fine (see other thoughts).

Other Thoughts: I wrote 2 reviews previously, one 5, the other 2. I returned the item to Newegg for replacement, and it turns out the first one was broken. The replacement hub works as advertised, no problems with usb3 drives at all.

2 out of 5 eggsstill fails with USB3 port and drive

Pros: USB2 ports work fine with all devices

Cons: USB3 ports don't work with USB3 ADATA UE700 drive, but work with USB2 flash drives

Other Thoughts: I thought the problem was linux, but that's not the case, as several kernel upgrades have made no difference. The USB3 drive works fine everywhere, through a direct cable to the PC USB port, and in the USB2 ports on the UH003. But I bought the port for USB 3 and that does not work reliably with the USB3 devices.

2 out of 5 eggsReview 2

Pros: USB 2 ports work great, USB 2 ports work great with USB3 drives

Cons: USB3 ports are unreliable with USB3 drives

Other Thoughts: I gave this hub a 5* rating before, suspecting slow handshaking etc.. I'm now convinced there's something wrong, either with the hub or my system's interaction with it, because the usb3 drive that works perfectly when connected via cable OR THE HUB'S USB2 PORTS typically fail to be recognized when I plug it into the USB3 ports. I'm holding off returning it hoping that a linux kernel upgrade will fix it....

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well but advisory

Pros: 2 USB3 ports, 4 USB2 ports. USB3 speed hits maximum transfer rate of my USB3 drive.

Cons: only 2 USB 3 hubs, as advertised, with 4 USB 2 hubs

Other Thoughts: USB3 devices plugged into the usb3 ports take more time to be recognized by my linux box than the usb2 devices and ports on the hub or a direct input to the USB3 motherboard port. I almost returned it before I realized that (1) I had a badly formatted 64GB usb3 drive, and (2) the handshaking took more time with usb3 ports on the hub.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome little hub

Pros: All ports works as stated.
Plug and play, windows detects the hub and installs all the drivers.
Has 2 ports which are vertical which is good for the wireless RF Dongles. (Mouse/Bluetooth etc..)
The power adapter gives about ~4.55Amps, enough to power all the bus-powered devices.
The plastic seems sturdy and adapter seems well built, (unlike some of the cheaper hubs which feels like it'll fall apart.)

Cons: Nothing really except they should use a Blue LED for power instead of green, doesn't match my new devices! lol.

Other Thoughts: The listing states 7 ports, keep in mind one of the ports is ONLY FOR CHARGING!
USB 3 file transfer speeds seems slightly reduced, but that's the nature of any hubs imo.
Not sure why they put an on-off switch that switches off the entire hub, no use for me really.
