5 out of 5 eggsDyson Fan=Awesome!

Pros: -It works like a thermostat so you can make the temp in your room whatever you wish it to be. It will only kick on to adjust the temperature.

-It comes with a remote so you don't have to get up every time you want to adjust the temperature or blowing power. Very handy for when you are trying to relax in bed or anywhere else.

-Very easy to understand. I didn't even have to look at the instructions.

Cons: Nothing too bad, but don't expect the same thing as a normal fan when cooling your room. Instead of just BLASTING you with air as a normal fan would, this fan takes air in, cools it accordingly, then blows it out gently, slowly cooling the room. For some this may be a con, but it doesn't bother me. Just thought I would mention it!

Other Thoughts: I live in the basement of my house (insert joke here) and I have no control over the thermostat down here. Having the Dyson fan--which works like a thermostat itself--has made living down here FAR more bearable, without having to wear a jacket around the house.

I'm sure there is some info I am forgetting right now, but that is the most of it. I would HIGHLY recommend the Dyson Hot+Cool fan! I personally loved it right away!

Pros: Typical Dyson Product. Great quality and appearance.

Cons: Not huge on heat output. Expected more heat output but will be ok.

Other Thoughts: Great for some added heat and fan to help with circulation. Will be a great fan in the warm seasons. Very nice appearance with great and simple remote operation.

Pros: I really couldn't say because I wouldn't buy a heater not knowing how much power it uses.

Cons: They make a lot of claims except how much power it uses.

Other Thoughts: I rarely bother to write reviews, especially for a product I don’t even own. However, while looking for a heater, this Dyson AM04 caught my attention because of all the “miracle” claims made for the product. After reading all the information supplied on Newegg’s website, the ONE THING that was missing (at least I couldn’t find it) was ANY MENTION of the wattage or current draw of this product. As a retired electrical engineer I know that the main cause of fires caused by electric heaters, is that a majority of electric heaters on the market today draw a maximum of 1500 watts on their “high” setting.

While at first glance it might appear that the #12 wire used today for most house wiring is more than adequate to carry 1500 watts, assuming that you’re not also using the same outlet for any other appliances (even #14 could handle it....on paper). However, the two main problems is that what a homeowner might not realize is how many other receptacles in the house are also connected to that same line. But the main problem running any of these heaters on “High” and drawing the full 1500 watts, is the receptacles themselves. Despite the wire’s capacity, standard home receptacles are rated at only 15 amps, which is lower than #12 wire’s capacity of 20 amps. In any event, if a heater is run for long periods on high drawing the full 1500 watts, these receptacles will HEAT UP and depending on their condition, will even get HOT. Under the right conditions this situation WILL CAUSE A FIRE.

Now, getting back to the AM04. I went to the manufacturer’s link supplied by Newegg for the product. After reading all their miracle claims again (they even had the precise measurements and weight and electrical cord length), nowhere could I find even A HINT OF THE ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS. While I don’t expect them to warn a consumer to be sure that their intended power source is sufficient for their unit, I DO EXPECT THEM TO AT LEAST MENTION THE “WATTAGE”, “VOLTAGE” and maybe even the “BTU OUTPUT” of the heater.

I guess leaving out the electrical specs under their title“specifications” must be part of Dyson’s better Idea that “just work’s right”.....for them.

1 out of 5 eggsOkay but lots of troubles

Pros: Heats well, it does give much more even heat than any I've seen. Not afraid to leave this on when I go to work.

Cons: If you like to sleep in a quiet environment this isn't for you.

I sent one back because it started clicking inside when oscillating after less than a month. Just like most other fans, it has an oscillation arm inside it, and every time it would reach the end and start returning on an oscillation cycle it would CLICK. Not really loud, but enough to be annoying when you're trying to go to sleep. The arm inside is doing it when it rolls over to start the return cycle, I have no doubt at all what's going on, I've seen it on standard fans before.

I returned the first unit to Dyson a little over a year ago, instead of returning it to the store, as it was just out of range of the return policy (90 days). I should have tried to get the store to exchange it, would have been WAY less hassle.

Let me say, Dyson reps are very pleasant on the phone, but the people that actually fulfill the returns are a bunch of BUFFOONS. It was over 2 weeks later (AFTER it was verified they got the returned unit, add a week) and I had no replacement. I called them and they said there was some mixup. Fine, I'm forgiving and this stuff happens. But then when I got the unit a week later it was the WRONG COLOR. I called and was told they must have been out of stock in the warehouse on the blue so someone in the warehouse sent the white one. WHY WOULD A WORKER IN A SHIPPING DEPARTMENT PRESUME TO TAKE A DECISION LIKE THAT ON HIMSELF ON A $400 ITEM IS COMPLETELY BEYOND ME.

Of course Dyson was all apologetic and sent me a shipper...an actual box that took another week to get to me to send it back. Then they had to wait to send out the correct one until they got the wrong one back. They never offered me any compensation or anything for all the headaches. Total turnaround time to get the correct replacement: SIX WEEKS. Unacceptable. Should never have been more than 3 weeks max. YOU'D THINK THEY'D TAKE THEIR MASSIVE PROFITS AND HIRE COMPETENT SHIPPING AGENTS.

Other Thoughts: Well whatever. This season here in AZ, I started using the new one. AFTER A MONTH OF USE, IT'S DOING THE SAME STINKING THING THE OTHER ONE WAS. If you want an expensive, well-built heater that you'd expect to be quiet without some stupid clicking, DO NOT BUY THIS HEATER.

I'm thoroughly frustrated. I will probably take the unit apart myself (it has security torx screws on the bottom so that will be interesting and cost my buying a tool to do it) because now it's over a year and I'm not going to waste my time trying to warranty it, as I do not believe this is just a bad luck thing with two units, I THINK THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. The oscillation arm needs some grease on it and should solve the problem. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll be able to put a nylon washer on the pivot arm post which should further solve the annoying click issue.

I am appalled that at the price of this they couldn't fix such a simple thing. They must have heard it during all their research and ignored it.

I will never again buy another Dyson product. This was the first and the last.

5 out of 5 eggsDyson does it again.

Pros: Having tried myriad forms of supplemental heat for the two non insulated homes I've lived in for the past 60 years, I am very impressed with this heater. It provides the most even temperature increase and is very safe with children in the room. It does not have the various hazards inherent in other forms.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I have 2 Dyson vacuums and 3 Dyson fans and have not been disappointed with any of them. They are better than anything I had used before, including purchases made within the last 8 years.
