4 out of 5 eggsRadar Detector

Pros: Works very well. Best part about this radar detector is its versatility and app integration. You get real time updates on where cops should be located and where there are red-light cameras at intersections. This radar detector has lots of options and is great for short city road-trips ESPECIALLY if you have a car phone mount. This is an investment I would advise getting because you want the setup to be as easy as possible to use and see. Like I said though, this device is best for cities and busy roads.

Cons: That being said, it's BEST for using this in CITIES not HIGHWAYS. Not very many people mention the range of this radar detector online but I for one find that its range is roughly 200-300 yards. If you're looking to have long road trips on the highway or interstate (55-70+ mph) I would advise getting a simple non-app integrated radar detector. True, it'll cost more but you need the range for those roads because cops will be posted pretty far in front of you on the side of roads and be pointing their radars straight at you. You don't want just 5-8 seconds heads up to slow down, you want AMPLE time to slow down, meaning you need range. ALSO the app is extremely bandwidth and RAM hungry. It'll take a massive dump on your phone's battery if you don't charge it at the same time. The real time map on the app is very laggy if you use directions and should only be used if you refuse to use google maps.

Like I said, for interstates and long road trips, don't buy this simply because it would be better to use your phone's own gps and have a better-ranged detector for those pesky small-town cops.

Other Thoughts: Verdict: Get this detector if you intend to use it in busy areas with cops looking for sign and slight speed limit violators (ughh) or if you need a red-light camera detection service. It's made of mostly plastic so don't expect anything super high-end. You get what you pay for although this is a really good bang for your buck.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent, but don't expect much from the suction cups

Pros: Works well. Very well. Tons of options in the App. Great to have warnings about red light cameras, speed cameras, traps, dangerous intersections, etc in addition to regular radar alerts.

Nice that it will work without the app as a normal radar detector.

Comes with Velcro square, which you'll use since the suction cups don't work

Power adapter has a USB port at the base, so you can charge your phone at the same time as using the iRadar.

Cons: The only cons I have found are:

1. The suction cup counting bracket is worthless. The suction cups on it are so stiff that they don't depress enough to stay "sucked". They just pop off the glass. You will need to use the included adhesive velcro square.

2. Unlike every other radar detector I've owned, both from Cobra and other brands, there is no visual indication on the unit itself of alerts, at all. No blinking, no separate LEDs for alert type, nothing. Just a solitary LED that is red when not connected to bluetooth, and blue when it is. I feel like this is a huge missing feature.

Other Thoughts: The two cons were enough for me to deduct one 'egg' from this otherwise *brilliant* product.

This has not soured my enjoyment of the iRadar, however, as I am planning to permanently install the unit in my car, so the suction cup problem will be irrelevant. The indication problem is annoying, but the unit does speak the alert type when it sounds off, and I usually use the app, which does give visual confirmation on-screen.

5 out of 5 eggsBest out there

Pros: Connects to your smartphone to the companion app. This lets the phone and the radar detector work together, so if someone else has one of these and reports a cop, you will know long before the detector even picks it up.

Speaking of that, this thing has a very good detection rate. I frequently get a weak detection almost a mile away from the police car down the road, so I have plenty of time to slow down and see where he is. An important thing for people to remember is that cops don't just leave their radar on all the time. This is NOT a cop detector. It is a RADAR detector.

Your phone can help the radar detector know about false alarms. For example if you are driving past a grocery store with a DUMB Radar an automatic door opener sets of a Dumb Radar every time you pass it. With this COBRA iRADAR (in city mode) it will know that it is a false alarm since so many people pass it and report that it is a false alarm. NOTE: It appears that in highway it will go off every time, which makes sense for highway mode.

It alerts you to speed traps too if you want, although I find that those are usually old information.

I like how this radar detector uses both tones and speech to convey how weak/strong the signal is by how fast the beeps are. It beeps in different patterns when it is laser or K, Ka, X and so on. For example if it detects a radar band that is ONLY used by cops, it will beep a crazier pattern to let you know there is no chance it is a false alarm and that you should slow down ASAP. The voice is very easy to understand and is loud enough to hear over the sound of a car stereo.

From a nerd perspective, they are still updating the app to make it better, which is nice. Some companies just make a product and don't want to improve it once we buy it. Cobra does, so kudos to them.

In my opinion, even if you don't have your phone connected to it, it will still do it's job. It will still beep and use the speech to tell you what kind of radar it is, and beep faster when the radar is closer. I think that even without a smartphone, I would get this radar because it still works very well even without the extra features.

I somehow managed to break the cigarette lighter part of the power cable because it was made out of such cheap plastic! I actually had to go on e bay and get a replacement cable that would fit. So now I don't have the USB power part of the power cable anymore so I have to use a splitter to power my phone's car dock and the radar detector. Note: Not the part that plugs into the radar but the part that plugs into the car was the weak part.

Do not unplug it very often, moving this between cars you might risk breaking it like I did.
