4 out of 5 eggsgimmick

Pros: I had to buy one just to see what the heck it does.

As you know, the radar detector has a menu that scrolls from item to item. The first two items determine what functions will be controllable by the button on the detector's cigarette lighter plug, assuming you have an Intellicord.

I forgot what happens if you don't have an Intellicord. Maybe you can program the first two items anyway, but it doesn't matter if you don't have a magic button.

Not every item in the menu can be controlled by the button. I usually have the options set for the Intellicord to control the Day/Dim/Dark function and the AutoQuiet function.

So, if keep I tapping the Intellicord button, it scrolls through the Day/Dim/Dark settings.

And, if I hold the Intellicord button for a second, it toggles the AutoQuiet function.

So, either tapping the button or holding it down for a second determines whether you're affecting the 1st or 2nd function.

Cons: (A few years ago) there was nowhere on the internet where you could get a description of what this thing does. Do I understand that you can make 'more' money by describing products poorly, or even so-poorly that you're not describing them at all? Blind them with brilliance....

When I take out the Pro-78 detector, which is a million years old, I set it on the dashboard of the Civic, and its buttons are 3 feet from me. The cigarette lighter plug is 2 1/2 feet from me. And after having the Intellicord for about 4 years, I still forget to use its button, especially since the detector has dedicated buttons for DayDimDark and AutoQuiet. I coulda saved $20.

Other Thoughts: Legalize It. Alcohol stinks behind the wheel. Use your radar detector to observe what law enforcement is doing, not to evade them. If you have to snap the brakes when the radar detector alerts, then you were going too fast and you have a guilty conscience. Slow down, leave earlier, legalize it, take it easy, remember there are friends behind the other wheels. Save your aggressiveness for The Man, not your fellow man.
