Total Purity Concept for the Finest Sound Quality

The Total Purity Concept, which Yamaha has been cultivating for many years, encompasses high drive amp technology, high purity pre-amplification, anti-vibration technology and independent pure power supplies. All models have a fully discrete power amplifier to minimize distortion. They also adopt independent pure power supplies, which prevent digital noise from affecting analog circuitry. The anti-vibration heatsinks are designed to suppress vibration from transistors and sound pressure. Independent power supplies for the DACs further eliminate noise on certain models. Down to every detail, these AV receivers are designed with full emphasis on the highest possible sound quality.

Extensive Audio Codec and Format Support

This AV receiver is compatible with many audio formats such as Dolby® True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio™. They are also compatible with FLAC/WAV 192kHz playback. You will enjoy excellent sound quality from Blu-ray Disc™ players and other types of high resolution sources.

Intelligent Amp Assign

Intelligent Amp Assign automatically assigns amplifier channels to certain speakers, depending on what functions are selected. For example, in a 7.1-channel system, when Zone 2 is off, all 7.1 channels will be used in the Main Zone. However, when Zone 2 is on, power to the two Surround Back channels will be directed to the two speakers in Zone 2, and the Main Zone will receive 5.1 channels of power. Similarly, when CINEMA DSP 3D is on, the two Front Presence speakers will be powered instead of the two Surround Back speakers. When CINEMA DSP 3D is off, this situation is reversed. Thanks to Intelligent Amp Assign, there’s no need to switch the speaker cables on the rear of the receiver—one more way Yamaha makes your life a little easier.

4K Pass-through and Upscaling Supports Latest High Resolution Video Formats

This AV receiver's HDMI input/output supports 4K video image pass-through. It also can perform 4K upscaling to boost a lower resolution image to super high-def resolution. This ensures compatibility with the latest super high resolution video formats.

HDMI with 3D and Audio Return Channel

3D means the receiver can handle 3-dimensional signal data. The Audio Return Channel function enables data to be sent and received via the same HDMI cable, so you can hear the sound from the TV via a single HDMI cable, with no need for an extra optical cable.

High Quality Video Processing with Edge Adaptive Deinterlacing

In ordinary deinterlacing, pixels in areas of movement are interpolated by upper and lower ranges. This causes jaggies in diagonal lines. Edge adaptive deinterlacing detects the direction of the line and interpolates the pixels optimally.

SCENE for One-touch Start

Pressing a SCENE button powers on the AV receiver and selects the input source and DSP mode. You can re-set the buttons for different sources by selecting a source and DSP mode, then pressing a SCENE button for more than three seconds.

HDMI CEC for Easy Operation

Another benefit of HDMI is the availability of CEC functionality. When the unit is connected to a CEC compatible TV, it will turn on and off together with the TV, and you can use the TV remote to control the volume. CEC also provides advanced functionality with other components. For example, you can use the receiver’s remote unit to control player functions like Skip and Stop.

*All connected devices must be HDMI CEC compatible. Some CEC compatible TVs/players may not work.

AirPlay Allows Streaming Music to AV Receiver

This AV receiver supports AirPlay, which means it will play music streaming wirelessly from an iPod® touch, iPhone®, or iPad®, as well as from iTunes on Macs or PCs. This makes it easy to enjoy music from your mobile devices or computer on your home theater system. You can view metadata such as song titles and artist's name as well as album art* via the AV receiver's on-screen display.

*Some models don't support album art display.

AV Controller App for Easy, Convenient Operation

This AV receiver lets you use the Yamaha AV Controller App, downloadable from the iTunes App Store or Google Play, to control power on/off and volume, select input and DSP modes, and operate other functions from an iPhone® or Android devices. You can also use it in as many as 23* different languages. Further customize the interface by hiding unused icons and renaming functions. A tablet version is also available.

*As of Spring 2013.

Network Functions

This AV receiver provides a variety of network functions that enable you to access more sources and also enhance operation. You can connect the receiver to a PC to enjoy Internet radio, Pandora® and Rhapsody®, and operate your system via WebBrowser Control. The AV Controller App (from iTunes App Store or Google Play) lets you control various functions from your iPod®, iPhone®, iPad® or Android devices.

MHL® (Mobile High-Definition Link) Support for High Quality Video and Audio

MHL provides easy, direct connection of compatible mobile phones with this AV receiver. Playback of up to 1080p video and multi-channel audio from a phones is supported. The receiver also charges the connected phone. Play, Pause, and other basic operations can be controlled from the remote control.

USB Digital Connection for iPod®, iPhone® and iPad® on the Front Panel

A USB port on the front panel allows convenient connection of an iPod/iPhone/iPad, which also charges when connected. Because the digital signal from the iPod/iPhone/iPad is transmitted directly to the AV receiver, there is no signal loss or interference, so you enjoy the best possible sound quality. In addition, you can use the receiver’s remote control unit to operate the iPod/iPhone/iPad music playback functions.

Advanced Multi-language GUI On-screen Display

Yamaha’s latest graphical user interface has a high resolution display with clear, easy-to-use menus and also includes a selectable status bar that shows input source, volume level, DSP mode and audio format. The GUI provides a choice of eight languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Chinese, and can be displayed over both normal and 3D pictures.

YPAO-R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) Sound Optimization with Multi-point Measurement

YPAO-R.S.C. analyzes room acoustics and measures various speaker characteristics, then calibrates audio parameters to achieve optimum sound at any of eight listening positions. It employs Reflected Sound Control to correct early reflections for studio-quality sound. It also provides DSP Effect Normalization, which varies the CINEMA DSP parameters according to the reflected sounds.

HDMI Front Panel Input

In addition to the large number of HDMI inputs on the rear panel, there is also one on the front panel. This gives you a convenient way to quickly plug in a digital camera or camcorder for highest quality pictures.

Input Selection in HDMI Standby Through Mode

When the AV receiver is in HDMI Standby Through mode, the input source (Blu-ray Disc™ player, game console, etc.) for viewing on the monitor can be changed via the remote control. There’s no need to turn on the AV receiver in order to switch sources.

HD Audio with CINEMA DSP 3D and Virtual Presence Speaker

CINEMA DSP 3D provides a wide, high and dense sound field. HD Audio format decoding lets you enjoy HD Audio sources. Virtual Presence Speaker delivers 3-dimensional sound without actual use of presence speakers.

Compressed Music Enhancer

When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha’s Compressed Music Enhancer employs sophisticated digital signal processing using exclusive algorithms to restore what was lost, so the music always sounds the way it should.

Dialogue Lift and Dialogue Level Adjustment for Natural Dialogue and Vocals

Dialogue Lift raises the sound of dialogue from the center speaker to a position in the center of the screen. Newly developed virtual dialogue lift achieves dialogue lift function even without the need for presence speakers. Dialogue Level Adjustment lets you control the volume of the vocal sound, so you hear movie dialogue and music vocals at the ideal level for clear, comfortable listening.

Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control)

Adaptive DRC automatically adjusts the dynamic range of the sound according to the volume level. This ensures that you hear clear dialogue and vocals, and all sound effects at comfortable levels. There is no need to adjust the volume level as you listen - everything from whispers to big explosions will be heard clearly and comfortably at the same volume setting. It also tones down loud TV commercials and is ideal for low-volume, late-night listening, when you do not want to disturb others.

New Virtual CINEMA DSP for 7.1-channel Surround Sound

New Virtual CINEMA DSP provides virtual 7.1-channel surround sound from only front speakers (2.1-channel), with no need for rear speakers. Using new 24kHz HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function) technology, a rear sound field is created that is extremely spacious, natural and powerful.

Subwoofer Trim for Improved Sound Imaging

The Subwoofer Trim Control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. This will result in a cleaner, more focused sound stage while providing a seamless frequency response. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is “pushed” toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim Control takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced, enhanced bass sound.

Versatile Zone Control

  • HDMI Zone B for audio/video streaming to another room (same content as main room)
  • Zone 2 on/off and control on front panel
  • Zone max volume and initial volume setting
  • Party mode
  • Remote input/output
  • Programmable +12 V trigger output

Eco-friendly Design ECO Mode Lowers Power Consumption by 20 Percent*

Yamaha’s new ECO mode reduces power consumption by about 20 percent. It can be set from the top of the GUI menu.

*Compared to power consumption when ECO mode is off (Yamaha measurement).

Selectable Auto Power Down

Auto Power Down lets you save energy by selecting to turn off the power after two, four, eight or 12 hours.

Low Standby Power Consumption

Yamaha makes its receivers eco-friendly with a low standby power consumption of 0.1W in IR Standby mode (3W in HDMI Standby Through mode, 3W in Network Standby mode).

Wireless Network Adapter Included

This AV receiver provides a DC-out connection for the YWA-10 Wi-Fi adapter. This lets you stream music wirelessly via a router from network components such as a PC or NAS.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked great for two years

Pros: - Great audio quality
- Easy setup / calibration
- Tons of features / inputs
- Lots of updates and services available

Cons: - Died on me with the flashing standby light from protection circuitry being triggered. Not sure what triggered it, as the only thing being moved at the time was a fiber optic cable unplugged.
- Cannot turn off said protection circuitry without taking to dealer

Other Thoughts: This is definitely a great receiver, similar to the Onkyo I had but with more features, better room calibration, shame it's stuck in protection mode now.

Pros: Works sometimes

Cons: HDMI connections become loose, Does not have updated HDMI and will not work with modern 4k equipment without issues (sound)

Other Thoughts: Bought this about a year ago now from Newegg. I had problems in the beginning with my Sony 4k tv and 4k media player - there was no sound being passed through. Newegg offered a discounted replacement instead of a full replacement. I didn't want to pay more so I declined.
The biggest issue is the HDMI outputs (2x). They become loose over time and the picture goes out. The only way to fix this issue is to go to the back, remove the HDMI out and re-insert it. You can feel that it's loose.
Overall, I wanted to like this receiver (replaced my Sony ES). But it's pretty embarrassing when company is over and you have to 'jiggle' the HDMI cables several times an hour to get a picture to show up.
Maybe I got a fluke - but I still question purchasing a Yamaha.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this for 4k. Problems abound

Pros: Two eggs cause the unit overall is great for the basic home theater. Plays great. Good GUI as needed.

Cons: When paired with a brand new sony 65" 4K tv and the Sony 4K media player, that's where the problems arise. To watch the 4k content from the media player with no loss, the media player needs to run an hdmi straight to the tv's hdmi input 4 for video. For audio, the sony player has an audio hdmi out that is recommended to plug into your receiver's hdmi input.
Here's the problems. No audio from the receiver at all with the 4k. UNLESS you switch the inputs on the receiver using the remote about 10-12 times. Then, like magic, audio.
Done? No. Halfway through a 4k movie (after you have finally gotten the sound working) the receiver shuts itself off. Typically this can happen as a built in fault protector. After checking every speaker and speaker wire. No faults found. (Plus everything works perfect with cable and bluray hdmi).
So, there is something wrong with this receiver not dealing with the 4k system.
As a note, I have an older sony receiver ES series that works fine with 4k passing thru. I just thought it was time to "upgrade" to a specific 4k advertised model.

Other Thoughts: I would love to give this receiver 5 eggs as it handles everything else great. But 4k not so much. I'd steer clear of this one if you are looking for a 4k capable unit.
If through my own fault, something is amiss, I will edit this review.

4 out of 5 eggsYamaha RX-V775WA 7.2 Channel Network AV Receiver

Pros: YPAO set up, Zone 2 separate program capability, power pass through, Android A/V controller app, will call pickup.

Cons: No printed manual, tiny/confusing remote buttons, wonky remote button component assignment, dual banana plug not compatible. Net radio UI awkward. 1000 channels but limited genres.

Other Thoughts: I have been watching this unit for months waiting for a price drop. Finally saw it as a 24 hour Egg Blast for $449 and rushed to purchase. This is replacing an 8 year old Onkyo 7.1 receiver which has served me well and will power an outdoor patio system.
The YPAO works well to get up and running. Still tweaking but my Polk Monitor 50 mains, PSW12 sub, RM7 surrounds, and RM7 center speakers (all purchased from New Egg) have never sounded better. The room is only 10'x15' with knotty pine walls, deep pile carpet, a couch and easy chair. I have aurelex bass traps in the corners and some small aurelex tiles on the walls. My zone 2 speakers are in the kitchen and are old 2 way Radio Shack (made by KLH) book shelfs.
Will probably replace these soon with some Polk Atrium4s.
The Android a/v app is really sweet. Using my home network I can control the DSP, volume, and signal source for both zones. I love being able to let the kids watch TV in the den while I blast music stored on my Note 10.1 2014 tablet or Pandora in the kitchen while I cook. With the press of the "Party" function the 2 zones can be united.
I felt I had to take away 1 egg for the "Cons" listed. Still am very happy with the purchase and would recommend this unit, especially at this price point, most highly.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Network Receiver

Pros: Network capability is great. The android app and web control feature are nice. For home automation, there is an Eventghost plugin on Github that works with this receiver. I use this receiver mainly through Zone 2 for whole house audio distribution.

Cons: Not much. You have to remember that hitting the Power Button does not shut off the Zone 2 amplifier, but that is nitpicking.

Other Thoughts: Bought this an an upgrade from an Onkyo TX-SR604 - HDMI board failure. What a substantial improvement in sound quality with this Yamaha receiver.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: Excellent receiver. Relatively straightforward to setup. I use it in two zones. The microphone calibration worked far better than the one in the previous Yamaha receiver I had (about 7 years old. The room is large with high ceilings and is acoustically live. Video pass through is flawless, and the up-scaling is excellent.

Cons: None. Great features for the price.

Other Thoughts: Recommended. You won't go wrong with this receiver.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!!

Pros: All the features this thing is packed with are great! Great price and great quality product! Easy to set up and very user friendly. Sounds great and works great and great price on sale for $450

Cons: No paper manual. It has a rom disc from which you can easily print it. I would use a very thin paper and normal quality settings on the printer.

Other Thoughts: I did a lot of research before I bought this to make sure it would work well with my new pioneer speakers and sub. I does have a 6 ohm function as well as the default 8 ohm. I knew exactly what to expect from this reciver and it is every bit as I expected and more. Also the ypao function works superbly to give you a quick quality setting and is very accurate! You can go into the manual speaker set up later and define your eq with 7 points on each individual speaker! The eq has a very good visual program on screen that makes setting it a snap for anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsYes, great deal for me...

Pros: Too many options to list. The one thing I'm impressed the most with is the Surround, playing nice with my Sharp TV, puts the sound down on Pioneer, Kenwood, Vega, and Mirage. Internet has no lag, wireless performance #1 without lag pulling playlists from my server located on the same level in another room. I am more than impressed with this purchase upgrading another Yamaha Pro Logic from 1989. Can't be happier, truly top of the line IMO.

Cons: Control buttons small but hey, the system rocks big time. The on screen graphics make up for it.

Other Thoughts: Shopped for cheaper stuff but this was on sale and I'm glad I choose a better product because this thing does everything but walk the dog. I am thrilled with the bass response, options and sound pumping 7 channels in my studio. Clear crisp decoding, no humming, all digital. Got to love it, Yamaha got this right.

5 out of 5 eggsToo much to handle...

Pros: I feel a bit overwhelmed by this machine. So many features and options that I think I only use 25% of them. I love it! Awesome power paired with my polk audio speakers. I may have this thing for the next decade.

Cons: Only hiccup is the Pandora app. It randomly says I don't have internet connection to access Pandora....Problem is that all other web streaming works AND I selected Pandora with the web app. Not worth knocking an egg off because I may have done something wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Product

Pros: Feature rich receiver with great sound. Yamaha and Onkyo are the only two manufactures I found that still provide component and composite audio/video cable connections. So your old VCR, DVD and TV are still usable. Alsio provides 7 HDMI ports for newer gear. My impression is this product is designed to allow migration from old technologies to newer ones. Yamaha tech support was very helpful with some wiring and set-up questions I had. Newegg's pricing of this product is excellent.

Cons: This receiver has so many features it is a bit overwelming. The remote is not terrible, but could have been designed and labeled better. The wireless feature and on-screen set-up capability only work if you have a HDMI connected TV. Same with other features, only work if you utilize the HDMI connections for your devices. Yamaha does not provide a printed owners manual, a disk is provided. While you can print the document from the disc, it is a hassle.

Other Thoughts: I am very happy with this purchase. This receiver allows me to use my old equipment and replace it with new as it breaks, with out upgrading the receiver again. The installation was time consuming but easy to do, if you followed directions. I had no problems getting the wireless feature to work. This is my second purchase from Newegg and both have exceeded my expectations. The pricing on this unit was very good. (Its actually on sale for a better price now.) I asked for the Egg saver shipping available, (standard ground, 4-8 business days) and received the product in 2 days.
