5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding!

This review is from: Yamaha Aventage RX-A730 7.2 Channel Network AV Receiver

Pros: This receiver, so far, has been outstanding. The sound drivers are brilliant. The sound presets are excellent and plentiful. The bass is balanced and pure but not over-powering at low levels. Plenty of settings to make it sound perfect.

I haven't hooked up the 7 speakers yet but the 5.1 is enrapturing. The theater quality sound is like being in a concert hall. I have this set up with a 1080p projector as a home theater system. The action scenes are explosive and with a good sub-woofer it feels like you are there. It also has a dialogue lifter to bring voice levels up on movies so you can still hear people talk over the burning wreckage in the background.

The best feature, to me, is the network access. My computer is the main audio source for the receiver. Being able to control it on-screen is fantastic! I can control the power, volume, inputs, stations, and presets without looking for the button on the remote. I believe the mobile app uses the same functions although I haven't used it.

Now I can play ambient sleep music at night without using the buzzing computer to stream it. It also has a sleep timer so it will turn itself off. Go to the vTuner website and register so you can search for stations and bookmark them. There are thousands of awesome free radio stations. It also has a Sirius XM mode. Just login with your account.

Its loud! I still like to jam it out loud sometimes and this will do it. One of the reasons I bought it was because I wanted more power. There is also no shortage of input connections. 14 different inputs if I count correctly. Its probably over-kill but I like it.

As a radio guru and I found the FM tuner to be very accurate. Its seems to have some sort of noise gate that makes the stations sound very clean and clear. Picked up a station on almost every frequency with it hooked to a large amplified outdoor antenna. You can also set it to mono for even better reception and talk radio. It has a good standard 75 ohm coax F connection for the antenna input instead of a weak PAL or wire terminals. AM tuner is average.

Cons: It wasn't free

Other Thoughts: I took a calculated risk in buying this online without ever testing one in person. Thats the perk of shopping online rather than driving around to 20 electronics stores looking for what you want. I currently own multiple Yamaha products and they are all very well made.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Unit/Great Receiver

This review is from: Yamaha Aventage RX-A730 7.2 Channel Network AV Receiver

Pros: Great sound, solid unit.
2nd zone connectivity, remote app
East to set up Nice Display and onscreen menus easy to navigate Lots of HDMi inputs 3 year warranty with many local repair shops

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: We looked at FIVE receivers:

Sony STRDH520 Denon AVR-1913 Yamaha RX-V673 Marantz NR1604 Yamaha RX-A730

Two of them had problems (Sony and Denon). The rest came down to how they sound.

The RX-A730 is part of Yamaha's Aventage line which is their higher quality product line; suppose to have better components. Incredible! Not only was the dialog level first class, but the action scenes and surround effects were alive, bright and enveloping, not harsh, fatiguing or flat. In fact after confguring speakers using YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer), no fine tuning was needed! The Marantz needed some tweaking after using Audyssey MultEQ. RX-A730 performed well at high levels (-20dB) and low levels. When you turn down some A/V receivers the sound tends to lose something. Not so with RX-A730; lower levels are still full and rich. The build is top notch. Back panel DOES NOT flex when inserting speaker plugs, unlike the Marantz.

The Yamaha RX-A730 is a solid unit. I heartily recommend the Yamaha RX-A730.
