5 out of 5 eggsReally good receiver

This review is from: Harman Kardon AVR 1510 5.1 Channel Networked AV Receiver

Pros: Easy setup
On screen menu

Cons: None noticed yet

Other Thoughts: I have had this receiver for about a week now and it does exactly what I need it to do. I am not one of those people that needs the ultimate surround sound experience. I just like things in my small gameroom to be loud and clear, and this receiver does exactly that. It is loud and clear. What more could you ask for in a budget receiver? I would recommend this receiver to anybody that just wants great sound at a great price.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat receiver!

This review is from: Harman Kardon AVR 1510 5.1 Channel Networked AV Receiver

Pros: -Great sound
-A lot of customization settings
-can connect to a home media server
-sub pre-amp
-5 channels of surround
-Lots of power
-Completely 100% silent (other than a really quiet buzzing for about 5 seconds after being turned on). It's passively cooled as far as I can tell.
-You can customize and save up to 12 Audio/Video Source presets, each with custom Bass/Treble EQ
-Looks pretty and shiney

Cons: -The composite video in DOES NOT convert to HDMI. In order to use composite video in, you need to use composite video out. This was a bit of a letdown as I was excited to use this to hook up to my old game systems to my computer monitor. I would say it was my fault for not doing research, but it is not documented ANYWHERE that I could find, not even directly stated in the manual.
-Being passively cooled means you need to keep this thing in exposed in open air. No chucking it in a tight desk or cabinet if there are no fans built into it moving air. This thing gets HOT, as in hot coffee pot hot.
-The remote is really the only way to navigate the settings and such, and it is really cheap and junky, meaning if the remote breaks your in trouble
-Power cable is built in, so replacing it with a longer one (WHY DO THIS!?!?!?!)
-You cannot set the video source to HDMI video in, and analog audio in. If you are using HDMI video you have to use either HDMI audio or optical SPDIF

Other Thoughts: In short this is a great receiver for the price, I got it on sale for about $175 and am not regretting the purchase at all. Also if you do buy this, a word of advice: You have to hit the AVR button on the remote before it will allow you to access the settings. I just saved you a few hours of google searching XD

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver

This review is from: Harman Kardon AVR 1510 5.1 Channel Networked AV Receiver

Pros: Use to DJ decades ago so i can appreciate this component's Watts, Frequency response and S/N ratio. Just perfect for a small to medium size room with good speakers! Either just left and right speakers or a 5.1 setup. Have used the radio, CD player and DVD movies & can hear all may instruments and human sounds. Carefully read your manual first! I just use HDMI connections.

Cons: Manual could be more informative so take your time & learn how to use remote to setup system.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend to others

3 out of 5 eggsOK Amp

This review is from: Harman Kardon AVR 1510 5.1 Channel Networked AV Receiver

Pros: Easy install. Lots of HDMI ports.

Cons: Not the most user friendly AV amp I've had. Not enough control on the front. Trouble with the remote also. Can't get into the settings to fine tune everything. Turns the amp on but not off. Will probably replace it later this year.

4 out of 5 eggsSimple done well...

This review is from: Harman Kardon AVR 1510 5.1 Channel Networked AV Receiver

Pros: Simple setup
great sound

Cons: Cheap remote
no auotmatic calibration
limited network options

Other Thoughts: This is turning out to be one of the most difficult reviews to write. I like the 1510, but at the same time, I would have trouble recomending it for the MSRP. It seems to me that at $300, it is overpiced. But, what you do get will help you speakers sound quite nice.

My need was for a secondary setup in my home office. I found it open box locally for almost half of the listed price. And for that, I think it is a steal.

The inputs on the back seem rather sparce, but 4 HDMI along with a couple analog and toslink should be sufficiant for most needs. If you are wanting component... you will have to look elsewhere.

It is network enabled. You get vTuner, and DLNA. But thats it as far as that goes. For Pandora or any other type of Radio app, you will have to connect another device. Also, you will need to be close to a router or modem. I do not know of a wifi option for the 1510.

To sum it up,
What is there is a nice little package. For the money, you WILL find other brands that offer more features. Wether they sound better, well..
As always, that is subjective.

-If this unit was selling for $235. I would have given it 5eggs.
