1 out of 5 eggsLook at the Return Policy

Pros: It's a headphone, it comes with "Surround Sound" stuff.

Cons: It's headphone, it comes with "Surround Sound" stuff that requires adapters sold by Turtle Beach, or a sound card. I put the thing on and instantly felt something was off. This thing is completely loose and no amount of adjusting will fix that, even the weight of the cord/clip can tear these things off my head.

Other Thoughts: Even if you gaze through this review, just make sure you READ THE RETURN POLICY. No electronics, man.

2 out of 5 eggsOriginally $99 but Not Worth $50

Pros: Lightweight; semi-comfortable (though eventually my ears do fatigue). Cords are fairly long which is good if you want to sit back at a distance.

Cons: Poor sound quality and cheap construction (everything is plastic except the ear cushions). How Turtle Beach ever figured these things were worth $99 is beyond me. The sound is muddled (yes, I have attempted all kinds of adjustments) so don't believe the descriptive hype of " Massive 50mm Speakers - Crisp Highs and Deep." If you play on a PC get ready to have your cord, particularly the equalizer, get in your way from time to time.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your money. I am sorry I spent $50 when it was on sale. There are much better models out there even a few from Turtle beach themselves.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's alright

Pros: Sound is great. Worked immediately out of the box on my PC. Sound quality is almost as good as my audio-technica M50x.

Cons: Headset is uncomfortable. At first I was impressed with the Dolby box it comes with, but now it's pretty inconvenient. Gamers I play with complain they hear an echo when I speak, but I haven't done much troubleshooting with that. Maybe it's an easy fix.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I bought it on sale.

1 out of 5 eggszero sound depth, low quality sound

Pros: Relatively cheap, felt immediately comfortable, I liked the pads and the way the earpieces were attached to the headband with the ball join, made it fit to my head just right.

Cons: The mid and high range sound quality is okay, not great but the biggest problem with this headset is the lack of any bass and generally low range in sound. It's like listening to your game on a phone speaker, it's just awful.

Sounds on this headset just muddle together so badly because of the poor sound range (mostly on the low end). I used these for a while, messed with the surround sound speaker positioning and the equalizer on the DSS2 that comes with it, and the equalizer on my computer, and still the problem couldn't be fixed. People were sprinting right by me in games where I never missed a sound, just because footsteps sounded like everything else. Normally they would be a lower pitched sound than distant gunfire, or the clicking and clacking of reloading, but because the bass is so bad, it's just about as pitched as everything else and you don't notice them and some dude shoots you in the back.

The biggest feature of this headset and the reason they even exist is the "surround sound" emulation, and it's poor, even by headset standards. Both the sound quality, and the directional accuracy of the sound is improved by turning off the surround sound feature, and even more improved when you toss the DSS2 to the side altogether and just plug the microphone right into your computer. Still though, as better as it is, everything I said still applies because the speakers themselves are bad.

tl;dr don't buy these, you won't have any spatial awareness in video games because the sound muddles together, and the sound quality for music isn't great either.

Other Thoughts: I hate myself for not even checking to see what the return policy on these was before I bought them, and now I'm stuck with garbage I'll have to hawk off to some poor sap. Don't be that guy.
